I'd like to know why you say to the predators before they walk outside the house, hi I'm Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC and we're doing a story about adults who want to meet underage teens online? Why don't you call them what they really are pedophiles? The way you say makes it seem like what their doing isn't that bad or as serious as it is. It is truly frightening to see how many predators there are out there. I also was wondering if you've ever had a women show up? I haven't seen any, but I could have missed a show. Although I agree that these sick individuals need to be caught and punished for their alleged crimes, I think the manner in which it is done is appauling. In every case I have seen, the apprehention of the perpetrator disgusts me. In most cases when Chris walks out from behind the wall, the people know they've been busted, and are about to be arrested. Is it really necessary for the law enforcement officials to take these people and push them down to the ground? As far as I'm concerned this is police brutality caught on tape. I've seen individuals walk out the door with their arms raised in a surrendering position, and still law enforcement pushes them to the ground, even when there's 4 or 5 officers against 1 suspect he gets pushed to the ground. Is this just a way for them to look big and bad? Personally, if I was ever in that situation, I would file a class action suite against Dateline and all law enforcement offices involved in the aprehention of these suspects.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

I THINK THIS IS AN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL AND MUCH NEEDED SERIES WHICH YOU HAVE SHARED WITH THE PUBLIC. Thank you again for helping bring awareness into everyone's homes!!

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

This is great that efforts are being made to catch these predators. However, what about the real minors out there who are carrying on these cyber chats? Can't they be "outed" as well? I realize that due to their ages, they can't be put on television, but what about their parents? Don't they need to be made aware of what their children are participating in? If you are truly interested in protecting children then something should be done about the "other side of the coin" as well.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

Aaron, London, Ont. There are too many children being abducted and raped and killed that I think this show is NEEDED to be on TV because it makes people aware. HOWEVER, PLEASE CONSIDER.... some of the very graphic detail that you expose re: what e-mails have contained and described is too much. The description of oral sex, group sex, and what these people want to do to each other is not necessary and also may be feeding the sexual deviancies of these people. It is just way too much information and actually quite offensive. So....please consider my suggestion and cut out some of the sex talk. You are doing a wonderful public service catching these perverts before they inflict the terrible and permanent damage of sexual assault on more young people. Hearing the quote of an officer on the show that the most sentence any of these criminals got was 6 years with 25 yrs probation is VERY upsetting. Our nation needs a lot more conservative judges! Those who prey on prepubescent kids?

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

I'd like to think this Dateline series has done what a handful of other shows has done - I hope it has encouraged other cities and police departments to launch their own investigations and sting ops to continue to catch Internet criminals. It is sick to think that these criminals are taking their sexual morals and attitudes from what 12 to 14-year-olds will let them do to them and if I hear that a 13 year old said it is OK, they thought it was OK.
I'm also wondering (and I hope Chris answers this since so many have asked it) about the whole issue if he has ever felt that he was in danger with dealing with any of these individuals.
I am also wondering (along with several others) about the police treatment of some of these people. While I am for all of them being arrested, I have to agree that some of the police officer's "pile-on" treatment during the arrest is excessive especially if there is no proof of resisting arrest. I personally would like to see them get roughed up by their cellmate and not by the cops!
Lastly, given the sheer number of comments for these episodes, Dateline's message has been received by the public and if it either pro or con with the attitude of the viewers, the mission has been accomplished and please keep busting these criminals.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

i think you guys should come up here. i know for a fact that there are a few guys who "like them young".

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

I think this show a good wake up call to the Sick Older Men Out there.Maybe they should stay at home and play with there self.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

I love watching this. Their public humiliation is nothing in comparison to the damage they plan to do to a child's psyche, and body. We are not in the days of our great grandparents, where two people in their youth got married, worked the farm, had children, and had reponsibilities that todays children do not experience for years. Our children are not in need of first hand exposure to sex by an adult who plans to use them for their own perverse need. These men do not do these things because they want to teach them love. They choose children because they are easily manipulated and overpowered. These men are the epitome of cowards. They are weak, and lacking. A real man does not look for little girls to engage in intercourse with. There are too many grown women giving sex up for less than the cost of a happy meal. The last time I checked, a 13 year old does not have a right to privacy from their parent's watchful eye.
These "alleged" criminals, are criminals. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Were we watching the same program? The program I watched had video PROOF these pedophiles are criminals.
Pedophiles who go to a house to have sex with a 13 year old child SHOULD be publicly humiliated and should be shown on national TV because most of the time a slick attorney can get their charges amended or dropped due to some technicality in the due process.
Maybe being on TV and being known in their community as a child molester will be enough deterrent to keep the online American teen age child safe! Facing jail time if caught is obviously not enough to keep these guys from trying to molest children.
Thank you Dateline and thank you Chris for the great job you are doing! Keep up the great work!

I think now what has to be done is to start making some programs available to those who are suffering with this problem to go and get treated. This should start being a part of the show now, as you have had many captives on there telling you how this has been riveting themselves for a long time, I do not think they went for help becausse they we ashamed and did not know where to go.. Could you possibly see if the producers will start to program some rehab places or instigate the psyche departments around the country to start up some clinics that could help these men and women.

I too was molested as a child and it seems all my life their were men in my family that have a perversion with it. It is sick and it seems like these men have no shame. Sad to say I really think there are children who are sick as well as these sick men. Before Dateline started this To Catch A Predator, this was going on with real teens on line looking for sex. What happens to these teens? There should be a law both ways. These teens will grow up and become grown sick men annd women too. I am thankful for this show, sad to think most of these men will get away and do it again. You have alot of viewrs who would vote for a harsher punishment. Don't let this go on without some new law put into effect. I also think that you really should not be so vulgar and explicit with the on line printout of the conversations. My children are under 11 and "oral sex" and any discription of the act should not be so open. Yes there are parents out there who like the program and want to share this knowledge with their children like me. I discuss this with them cause we live in a sick world where morals are a thing of the past. But please keep in mind the young viewers you are trying to school about this, that they don't need all the details. Chris I feel sorry for you cause I can imagine when you sleep at night these sick chats you have to read must be imprinted in your mind when you dream. I hope you are able to cope with such a burden. Within a few minutes I found a fifty something yr old man who wanted to meet with me and began saying sexually explicit things to me. I at no time said anything to provoke him. He sent me pictures and everything. I called the local police and they weren't equipped to help me. I then talked to state police and they took over the case. They set up a meeting and the man was arrested within a week of our first conversation. I think this work is very important and there are definitely alot of men out their with serious problems. However, I also have read many of the conversations that the Perverted Justice team have engaged in and I feel that often times they are entrapping these men. Saying things to make these men think these girls are truely interested in meeting them for sex. How many teens really do this? As someone else mentioned here, I think that there should be someone trying to find out what kind of girls would actually engage in these kind of conversations. What is wrong with these girls that they would even go this far? How many actually do? That is scarey to think any girl would be so lonely and sad that they would really think of meeting up with a man who is talking to them like this and is so much older I think that any girl that would follow through with this meeting also needs help. Many here say that these men need to be locked away, etc. I think they need serious help just like alot of people do. We get help for drug addicts, alcoholics, and other people with addictions, so why do we have no compassion for these sick people? Putting more people in jail isn't the answer. Getting these people help should be our top priority.

The police office who stated on this evenings broadcast that she was so thankful that using a decoy to catch these predators saved children from being irreversibly hurt forever was very true.

These predators make excuses and worry about what is going to happen to them and do not ever stop to worry about the effects upon these kids. They seem to be thinking that teenagers WANT to have sex with them? I don't think so. Their excuses of "I just say that stuff on the internet, it's not real." It becomes real when you leave your house and enter another thinking you are meeting a child, someone's daughter or son. Do they ever consider what would happen if someone did the same thing to their child? I doubt it. The kids have less concept of reality than they do, especially on the internet. It's an adults responsibility to be more responsible than a child, and say NO and protect all children not just your own.

As for the effects, they do last forever. My child is still suffering, hurting as if it happened yesterday and it happened six years ago. I am still suffering and it happened twenty-seven years ago. This isn't some misdemeanor mistake where pedophiles should be given a slap on the hand. They will re-offend and there is no cure. This is an epidemic and a sickness. Predators need to realize as a society we will NOT tolerate it and there are consequences. Pedophiles should have to be labeled so those of us in society are protected.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

I am watching the show and you just arrested the two men who are not american citizens. It amazes and scares me that people still do this with all the noteriety this show has received. Of course it's entrapment, people...and the men showing up at these houses have one thing on their mind - to have sex with an underage CHILD. They are flagrantly told the age of the person they are "chatting" with on the net and are fully aware of what their intent is once they arrive at the home.
I for one and estatic that someone is giving time and effort into ensuring these unbalanced individuals are caught, maybe BEFORE they violate a child.
And as for the comments that the show is "too graphic"- THIS is reality, folks, and someone needs to let you know what is really happening. I allow my 13 year old daughter to watch, and though it may make us uncomfortable at times, I want her to be fully aware of the lengths these predators will go in order to take advantage of a child.
As for the comments saying that these people need help- you're damn right. but how do we know who needs help...should we wait until they rape a child? I think not.
I think you are providing a great service and please keep it up.
Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill could use one of your sting operations around here.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

While I think you're doing a good service, I'm puzzled by the fact that you're able to show police interrogations. Being a mental health therapist, I understand the damage that sexual predators do to our young children, however I am continually frustrated with the way we place every cent of our blame on these men, while holding the teenagers completely unresponsible for the behavior, and allow them to go out there, get on the internet, and become victims once again. We allow our children to continually bait these men over and over again, and sorry folks, unless we do something about these kids, it isnt going to stop. For instance, if you have a drug dealer giving out drugs, we punish both, right? Why not send these kids to treatment to determine why the heck they need to solicit 40 year old men, instead of allowing them to put themselves out there on the internet over and over again. I see this show as nothing more than reality TV that is dealing with the aftermath and not the true issue at hand- the kids. I agree these men have their problems but as long as the kids are available, no matter how many we stop, they are still going to be out there. Supply and demand, folks.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

I am glad to see someone doing something about this. A comment about Ohio placing flourscent green license plates on sex offenders' vehicles: I wholly support the punishments & embarrassment that have been witnessed, but 'tagging' a vehicle in this way will, without a doubt, encounter constant vandalism. There's also the risk of someone playing a prank and putting one of the plates on your car. That would really bite!!!

When this series first aired, I found it to be informative, and amazing to watch, especially when predators were stupid enough to get caught even after becoming aware that they might end up on TV. After watching the show several times, I'd seen enough and learned enough. I just don't understand watching it over and over again, week after week. I'm sure Perverted Justice can continue without your help. At this point, I do think you are just appealing to the perverts and others who are being titilated by all the graphic sex talk, as some others have mentioned. Good thing I have the ability to choose another channel; if I had to watch this series week after week, I'd be thinking that I had been captured by the Talaban, and was being tortured. Have you run out of other newsworthy subjects? How about just covering this subject once a month, or are your ratings just too good to pass up, like that sleezy Anna Nicole nonsense.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

G. However, what is not really explored is the pathology of their misdirected desires, or why it is that they choose to ignore cultural norms about age differentiation with respect to their own sexual desires. I'd like to know (from a survey of those nabbed) what this is for them internally beyond the obvious sexual manifestation. Is this reclaiming a never experienced sexual prowess of their youth, or is it a product of their own abuse at an early age. The series lacks useful meaning without devoting time (in each show possibly) to the origins of their compulsion. Without doing diligence to this it is difficult for us to find an applicable set of counter measures that attack the origins of this behavior.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

Keep it up until you no long have them chatting on line. I know it was just a small part of the program and I'm glad they got that dirtbag officer off the street, but let's keep it to the point of the program instead of making ignorant comments.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

I think this is a wonderful service and wish they could do it in all cities and scare these sicko's to the point they stop.

I also think it would be great to have these people able to be spotted as sexual predators, as Ohio is considering special license plates. Drunk drivers have yellow ones, and these lime green plates would help children see these people near schools and know to stay away.

It is not an invasion of privacy - these people are not lured, they see a screen name and assume it is what they wish a young ignorant person. To show these shows and see that there are still people out there who know these stings happen and even watch them and still consider this deplorable behavior is disgusting and they need to be displayed to the world before they hurt some poor innocent child.

I think the way you treat the men is violation of their 4th Amendment rights. You are baiting them, exposing them to the world, and then you can sit back and feel justified in exposing them, like you are performing some service to the world. It is shameful, and does nothing to further the debate about how to deal with this problem. And if you are someone that thinks that this is great, try to separate your feelings about the reality of pedophilia and the way that this program is going about capturing these people. It is OK to oppose the abuse of children, and at the same time question the methods that are used to expose these men and grotesquely celebrate their downfall. Maybe these resources should be spent on prevention instead of parading these people for eveyone's jolly good entertainment.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

I have noticed some people say "These poor sick men need help " or "They were probably abused themselves". Excuse me? The "Abuse Excuse" has been disproven countless times. And as for these poor men, there are those who seem to be forgetting these are MEN. Adults who make concious decisions to pursue children for sex. Children are not capable of making these decisions. They are NOT miniature adults they are children. As for violating their privacy, they are fully prepared to violate our children. As a mother of a victim of molestation, my child asked me "Why did this happen to me?" What did I do wrong?" So before rushing to defend these men, perhaps those who do should ask themselves how they plan to answer those questions while looking at the face of an absolutely devastated child. It should also be noted that at no time on Dateline have I ever seen a gun pointed at the head of any of these predators when they are talking in these chat rooms. There is a reason why there are called predators. I too watch this show with my daughter. And she tells me that she can now feel safer in the world again. So the next time someone feels it necessary to defend these predators, cry about their rights, or say they are just lonely and did a stupid thing, look in the face of a child who is a victim of this evil. Then come back here and tell us how that experience was for you.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

I was wondering if you can make profiles on the men you catch doing this. My concern is how do you catch a predator that is already in your home: one who lives with you and is preying on your child? I want to know because I am a victim of child neglect and sexual abuse in the home. But I am an adult now and the predator is still living and free. He has allegedly done it before to someone else. I have told my family about it, including my mother. How do I get help and justice after it has happened and no one has done anything to bring this person to justice. It still haunts my life to this day. And it affects my life on so many levels. If you ever watch Oprah, Montel Williams, Maury Povich, or any of those other shows, you see young adolescent girls on there all the time talking about how they are sexually active. It's a fact and a reality and it's sad. It's not soley because there are individuals out there who are child molesters, but there are some people out there who are not child molesters, they are people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's all that goes on in JR. High and High School now-a-days. All kids talk about is sex and drugs. It's supposed to be the "cool thing to do" and anyone with any sense at all knows that it isn't. If you have raised your child right and have taught them well they will know not to get into that type of stuff and will know just as well not to get onto the internet and start chatting with people who are not their age.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

All of this shows efforts are totally in support of the laws which we all are to obey. I want to thank you for pointing that out. Rather than an "anti-gun bias" that some of you suggested, it was rather just a factual error. I realize that in fact hollow points are standard issue police ammunition, and are used by police to cut down on bullets straying to innocent bystanders.

I was under the impression that these bullets Spikes was carrying were of a different type... the type that ARE designed to penetrate body armor and are in fact called "Cop killers." I didn't realize my error until after the show aired.

Just want to point out that we were correct in saying he had a loaded assault rifle unsecured on the passenger seat, a loaded revolver in his pocket, a shot-gun, at least two other handguns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition also in his car.

Thanks for watching.

Thank you for bringing it to the public. It shows how demoralized our society is but also that there are decent people like you in this world that care. I hope to see more of you and your reports on TV. Keep on going, don't stop, you are great and doing great job!

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

If you really think that Chris Hanson is doing the wrong thing...Then Look in the Mirror and ask yourself: Do "YOU" want this to happen to your son/daughter or even just a close relative? These people initiate the contact AND then pursue it. I applaud Chris Hanson for having the guts to keep this going. My daughter
was molested at 6 by a relative that was 15 at the time and his friend 11 and now years later it has
happened a second time which I did report my daughter
was 14 the relative admitted it signed a affidvid
was told by the investigators they had enough to
prosecute him got a letter from the Arkansas State
Police stateing they found the alligations to be
true and his name was entered into the Child
Maltreatment Registery but, has not been arrested
as of yet that was almost 8 months ago so I find
the orgininal investigator does not work at the sherriff's department anymore and they could not
find the case file it took them 30-40 minutes to locate it and find there is nothing at the court
house filed on him and I was told by the other
investigator it was filed at the court house
then I have a conversation with the depty
prosecutor that was horrible he belittled me
and my daughter so we are the victims now with
the judicial system here so basically my relative
is going to get away with it and I been going round and round trying to make something happen and so
far nothing I find out yesterday the other investigator that said they had enough evidence to
prosecute is no longer there either so something
funny is going on. I wish it was that simple in
my daughter's case like it is on "To Catch A
Predator" it happened the second time January
2007 but, nobody seems interested to prosecute.
I am glad you are protecting children and teens
from harm that is a good thing.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

What if the person lives in your apartment complex and has a pass key to your apartment. I didn't know this was what you meant when you said there are sickos out there looking for kids online." What I think got to her was so many of these guys, esp the young ones, look completely "normal" not like wild eyed Charles Mansons, which I think is what she had been imagining. Keep it up Chris & I agree with some other posters--what about women who are looking for either boys or girls---maybe less common but does Perverted Justice ever run into that? If it is a risk I don't want my daughter thinking she only has to worry about males & letting her guard down when she shouldn't.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

To some of you that think this is an invasion of their privacy, that is completely illogical. These guys know they are doing something completely repulsive and evil. They have a choice what to do with their complusion. Their victims don't. I know what it's like for victims. I'm one of them thanks to two different scumbags in my childhood. Invasion of privacy is the least of their worries. Because they know that if they are caught by someone who hates them, they might not see the light of day ever again. If I had my way, none of them would live to do it again to anyone. So cry me a river about privacy after you're violated. Or your child is. Thank you Chris for helping past and future victims. You have no idea how thankful I am for people like you and the folks at pervertedjustice. I think you've earned a special place in heaven.

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

I am a retired grandmother who is very computer savey, I would love to help in any way possible, is there a way a person such as myself can help try to catch these horrible people?

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.
I think it is wonderful that you are doing this program.I just wish you could do it in every city of every State in the country. If it only scares one of these criminals into being afraid to do such a disgusting thing it's worth it.I think it should be televised so people will reconize them and people with young children will keep a closer eye on what and who there kids are chatting with on line. Please keep up the good work.If it lines your pockets as some say,I say you deserve it.What one people say if it was thier child you helped ?

More behind-the-scenes in Flagler Beach, Fla.

T. I have now watched, I believe, 4 seperate episodes and I just cannot believe, or did not believe, until now, just how serious this problem is. Chris Hansen and company deserve the cooperation of every Police agency out there-no matter where they go. There should be no cost spared when it comes to protecting the young and innocent. I just can't say enough good things about the show and what Chris and staff are doing. I work part-time in the EMS field and I see first hand some of the things that go on out there. I don't know where it will end, but MSNBC started something bold and good. My hat is off to you.
