What you are doing is wonderful. I work for an Adult Probation Department in Southeast Texas. Our Department has created a Sex Offender Location Unit along with our District Attorney's Office work together to try and make sure that the sex offender's in our counties are compliance with registration. Recently we had a registered sex offender with a my space page which is a violation of his court ordered probation judgment. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was arrest but, the District Judge released him. I sure wish you could come to our area.. Keep up the good work.

OK, so I've watched nearly every "To Catch A Predator" episode. Although I agree that these sick individuals need to be caught and punished for their alleged crimes, I think the manner in which it is done is appauling. In every case I have seen, the apprehention of the perpetrator disgusts me. In most cases when Chris walks out from behind the wall, the people know they've been busted, and are about to be arrested. Is it really necessary for the law enforcement officials to take these people and push them down to the ground? As far as I'm concerned this is police brutality caught on tape. I've seen individuals walk out the door with their arms raised in a surrendering position, and still law enforcement pushes them to the ground, even when there's 4 or 5 officers against 1 suspect he gets pushed to the ground. Is this just a way for them to look big and bad? Personally, if I was ever in that situation, I would file a class action suite against Dateline and all law enforcement offices involved in the aprehention of these suspects.

I'd like to think this Dateline series has done what a handful of other shows has done - I hope it has encouraged other cities and police departments to launch their own investigations and sting ops to continue to catch Internet criminals. It is sick to think that these criminals are taking their sexual morals and attitudes from what 12 to 14-year-olds will let them do to them and if I hear that a 13 year old said it is OK, they thought it was OK. I'm also wondering (and I hope Chris answers this since so many have asked it) about the whole issue if he has ever felt that he was in danger with dealing with any of these individuals. I am also wondering (along with several others) about the police treatment of some of these people. While I am for all of them being arrested, I have to agree that some of the police officer's "pile-on" treatment during the arrest is excessive especially if there is no proof of resisting arrest. I personally would like to see them get roughed up by their cellmate and not by the cops! Lastly, given the sheer number of comments for these episodes, Dateline's message has been received by the public and if it either pro or con with the attitude of the viewers, the mission has been accomplished and please keep busting these criminals.

I too was molested as a child and it seems all my life their were men in my family that have a perversion with it. It is sick and it seems like these men have no shame. I discuss this with them cause we live in a sick world where morals are a thing of the past. But please keep in mind the young viewers you are trying to school about this, that they don't need all the details. Well, when I first watched this show I myself went online and posed as a fifteen yr old girl. Within a few minutes I found a fifty something yr old man who wanted to meet with me and began saying sexually explicit things to me. I at no time said anything to provoke him. He sent me pictures and everything. I called the local police and they weren't equipped to help me. I then talked to state police and they took over the case. They set up a meeting and the man was arrested within a week of our first conversation. I think this work is very important and there are definitely alot of men out their with serious problems. However, I also have read many of the conversations that the Perverted Justice team have engaged in and I feel that often times they are entrapping these men. Saying things to make these men think these girls are truely interested in meeting them for sex. How many teens really do this? As someone else mentioned here, I think that there should be someone trying to find out what kind of girls would actually engage in these kind of conversations. What is wrong with these girls that they would even go this far? How many actually do? That is scarey to think any girl would be so lonely and sad that they would really think of meeting up with a man who is talking to them like this and is so much older I think that any girl that would follow through with this meeting also needs help. Many here say that these men need to be locked away, etc. I think they need serious help just like alot of people do. We get help for drug addicts, alcoholics, and other people with addictions, so why do we have no compassion for these sick people? Putting more people in jail isn't the answer. Getting these people help should be our top priority.

I agree that the naysayers are certainly people who are afraid or have something to hide themselves. The police office who stated on this evenings broadcast that she was so thankful that using a decoy to catch these predators saved children from being irreversibly hurt forever was very true. These predators make excuses and worry about what is going to happen to them and do not ever stop to worry about the effects upon these kids. They seem to be thinking that teenagers WANT to have sex with them? I don't think so. Their excuses of "I just say that stuff on the internet, it's not real." It becomes real when you leave your house and enter another thinking you are meeting a child, someone's daughter or son. Do they ever consider what would happen if someone did the same thing to their child? I doubt it. The kids have less concept of reality than they do, especially on the internet. It's an adults responsibility to be more responsible than a child, and say NO and protect all children not just your own. As for the effects, they do last forever. My child is still suffering, hurting as if it happened yesterday and it happened six years ago. I am still suffering and it happened twenty-seven years ago. This isn't some misdemeanor mistake where pedophiles should be given a slap on the hand. They will re-offend and there is no cure. This is an epidemic and a sickness. Predators need to realize as a society we will NOT tolerate it and there are consequences. Pedophiles should have to be labeled so those of us in society are protected.

I have just read over most of the comments, and I am appalled at the number of people screaming "entrapment!" Of course it's entrapment, people...and the men showing up at these houses have one thing on their mind - to have sex with an underage CHILD. They are flagrantly told the age of the person they are "chatting" with on the net and are fully aware of what their intent is once they arrive at the home. I for one and estatic that someone is giving time and effort into ensuring these unbalanced individuals are caught, maybe BEFORE they violate a child. I allow my 13 year old daughter to watch, and though it may make us uncomfortable at times, I want her to be fully aware of the lengths these predators will go in order to take advantage of a child. Frankly, this show frustrates my every being. Being a mental health therapist, I understand the damage that sexual predators do to our young children, however I am continually frustrated with the way we place every cent of our blame on these men, while holding the teenagers completely unresponsible for the behavior, and allow them to go out there, get on the internet, and become victims once again. We allow our children to continually bait these men over and over again, and sorry folks, unless we do something about these kids, it isnt going to stop. For instance, if you have a drug dealer giving out drugs, we punish both, right? Why not send these kids to treatment to determine why the heck they need to solicit 40 year old men, instead of allowing them to put themselves out there on the internet over and over again. I see this show as nothing more than reality TV that is dealing with the aftermath and not the true issue at hand- the kids. When this series first aired, I found it to be informative, and amazing to watch, especially when predators were stupid enough to get caught even after becoming aware that they might end up on TV. After watching the show several times, I'd seen enough and learned enough. I just don't understand watching it over and over again, week after week. I'm sure Perverted Justice can continue without your help. At this point, I do think you are just appealing to the perverts and others who are being titilated by all the graphic sex talk, as some others have mentioned. Good thing I have the ability to choose another channel; if I had to watch this series week after week, I'd be thinking that I had been captured by the Talaban, and was being tortured. Have you run out of other newsworthy subjects? How about just covering this subject once a month, or are your ratings just too good to pass up, like that sleezy Anna Nicole nonsense.

However, what is not really explored is the pathology of their misdirected desires, or why it is that they choose to ignore cultural norms about age differentiation with respect to their own sexual desires. I'd like to know (from a survey of those nabbed) what this is for them internally beyond the obvious sexual manifestation. Is this reclaiming a never experienced sexual prowess of their youth, or is it a product of their own abuse at an early age. The series lacks useful meaning without devoting time (in each show possibly) to the origins of their compulsion. Without doing diligence to this it is difficult for us to find an applicable set of counter measures that attack the origins of this behavior.

I have noticed some people say "These poor sick men need help " or "They were probably abused themselves". Excuse me? The "Abuse Excuse" has been disproven countless times. And as for these poor men, there are those who seem to be forgetting these are MEN. Adults who make concious decisions to pursue children for sex. Children are not capable of making these decisions. They are NOT miniature adults they are children. As for violating their privacy, they are fully prepared to violate our children. As a mother of a victim of molestation, my child asked me "Why did this happen to me?" What did I do wrong?" So before rushing to defend these men, perhaps those who do should ask themselves how they plan to answer those questions while looking at the face of an absolutely devastated child. It should also be noted that at no time on Dateline have I ever seen a gun pointed at the head of any of these predators when they are talking in these chat rooms. There is a reason why there are called predators. I too watch this show with my daughter. And she tells me that she can now feel safer in the world again. So the next time someone feels it necessary to defend these predators, cry about their rights, or say they are just lonely and did a stupid thing, look in the face of a child who is a victim of this evil. Something that people should understand and someone mentioned it is that "there are 14 year olds out there pushing strollers around" and thats because the reality is (as sad as it may be) that 12, 13, 14, 15, and older are out there being sexually active and it's not because of people trying to solicit them over the internet or whatever, it's because of things on television, peer pressure, it's what's going on in today's world. If you ever watch Oprah, Montel Williams, Maury Povich, or any of those other shows, you see young adolescent girls on there all the time talking about how they are sexually active. It's a fact and a reality and it's sad. It's not soley because there are individuals out there who are child molesters, but there are some people out there who are not child molesters, they are people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's all that goes on in JR. High and High School now-a-days. All kids talk about is sex and drugs. It's supposed to be the "cool thing to do" and anyone with any sense at all knows that it isn't. If you have raised your child right and have taught them well they will know not to get into that type of stuff and will know just as well not to get onto the internet and start chatting with people who are not their age.

I would like to see the crime statistics in some of the counties that these incidents are filmed in. I'm sure that using anywhere between 5-10 police officers at a time for this means that this is the major focus on crime for their county. I'm sure breaking and enterings aren't any problems either. Some of you pointed out my error in referring to the type of hollow-point bullets that Todd Spikes had in his car as Cop Killers. I want to thank you for pointing that out. Rather than an "anti-gun bias" that some of you suggested, it was rather just a factual error. I realize that in fact hollow points are standard issue police ammunition, and are used by police to cut down on bullets straying to innocent bystanders. I was under the impression that these bullets Spikes was carrying were of a different type... the type that ARE designed to penetrate body armor and are in fact called "Cop killers." I didn't realize my error until after the show aired. Just want to point out that we were correct in saying he had a loaded assault rifle unsecured on the passenger seat, a loaded revolver in his pocket, a shot-gun, at least two other handguns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition also in his car. What those men have is psychiatric disorder and should be locked up permanently in Psychiatric Ward. Do you really believe, that if they get 1,2 3,4 years in jail, they will come out "cured'??? I don't think so. One day they will return to their addiction and molest a child because no jail will cure them.

I think it is great what you are doing. My daughter
was molested at 6 by a relative that was 15 at the time and his friend 11 and now years later it has
happened a second time which I did report my daughter
was 14 the relative admitted it signed a affidvid
was told by the investigators they had enough to
prosecute him got a letter from the Arkansas State
Police stateing they found the alligations to be
true and his name was entered into the Child
Maltreatment Registery but, has not been arrested
as of yet that was almost 8 months ago so I find
the orgininal investigator does not work at the sherriff's department anymore and they could not
find the case file it took them 30-40 minutes to locate it and find there is nothing at the court
house filed on him and I was told by the other
investigator it was filed at the court house
then I have a conversation with the depty
prosecutor that was horrible he belittled me
and my daughter so we are the victims now with
the judicial system here so basically my relative
is going to get away with it and I been going round and round trying to make something happen and so
far nothing I find out yesterday the other investigator that said they had enough evidence to
prosecute is no longer there either so something
funny is going on. I wish it was that simple in
my daughter's case like it is on "To Catch A
Predator" it happened the second time January
2007 but, nobody seems interested to prosecute.
I am glad you are protecting children and teens
from harm that is a good thing.

The first time I saw the show it was late at night & I woke up mt 14 year old daughter to see it. I didn't know it would be an entire series.
Her eyes got big as saucers as the show went on & she said, "Thanks for waking me up to watch this! I didn't know this was what you meant when you said there are sickos out there looking for kids online." What I think got to her was so many of these guys,esp the young ones, look completely "normal" not like wild eyed Charles Mansons, which I think is what she had been imagining. Keep it up Chris & I agree with some other posters--what about women who are looking for either boys or girls---maybe less common but does Perverted Justice ever run into that? If it is a risk I don't want my daughter thinking she only has to worry about males & letting her guard down when she shouldn't.

I have now watched, I believe, 4 seperate episodes and I just cannot believe, or did not believe, until now, just how serious this problem is. Chris Hansen and company deserve the cooperation of every Police agency out there-no matter where they go. There should be no cost spared when it comes to protecting the young and innocent. I just can't say enough good things about the show and what Chris and staff are doing. I work part-time in the EMS field and I see first hand some of the things that go on out there.
