In the past, television was the tried and true babysitter... then came video games... and now the internet. The reason men are the only ones caught is because they are targeted! Everyone do what is right and research perverted justice and ask yourself why dateline pays them in excess of $100,000 to produce predators. Then ask yourself if the public would agree with 10+/- armed police officers throwing a woman down on camera and roughing her up if that would be acceptable. Research the terms of service agreements that will soon be not able to be enforced because dateline and perverted justice (not law enforcement) choose to ignore and lie about ages and do not follow the rules. Research how the Arizona Supreme Court in May of 2006 said no evidence from Perverted Justice would be allowed in their court of law. There are underlying factors such as .....microsoft owns a major part of dateline to catch a predator, and think about the show and how the top three chat programs it talks about are aol, yahoo, and myspace. They label these programs as the worst on the internet, some they say are pedo enablers. Might they be the competition? Take a look at your computer and see if the microsoft based chat program came with it and then ask yourself why is the program that comes on virtually EVERY computer not even busted one person? Its a way to market their product and at the expense of innocent families and guys that make bad decisions not necessarily illegal ones. Read up on identity theft and identity fraud, wire tapping laws, consent laws that deal with hidden microphones and cameras, entrapment laws, read up on how it is illegal to act as a private investigator or pay someone to act as a private investigator and then ask yourself why they get away with what they do. Its all fun and games until they trick one of your family members into meeting. Read the diff articles on how they exagerate the Predator stats and how they admittedly just made the number 50,000 predators up. The Predator issue is a serious one but there is not an epidemic like they fabricate and want you to believe. After all if there was no epidemic they couldnt sell you software to monitor your child online. Also if you think this is such a good thing get windows vista and have a built in patch to your personal computer that allows the government to access your computer at will. DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE ON TV your parents taught you that as a child why should it change?

Hello Mr. Hansen, While I am very glad that To Catch A Predator is doing the work it's doing.....to demystify the frightening range of what child sexual predators look like, what their backgrounds are, etc.......I remain concerned that there is less than a 15% chance, I believe that a child sexual predator will be a non-intimate member of the family/community to the child. 85% or more of child sexual predators are: mothers, fathers, step-fathers, step-mothers, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters (in siblings cases, the sibling is almost always found to have a child sexual abuse history of their own from other family members), extended family living close by such as grandparents, etc....close family friends who are in and out of the house, the child's teacher, the child's youth pastor, etc. The last workshop on such topics I attended placed the figure at somewhat less than 12% of children were molested outside of the family, and well known respected familial authority figures, such as mentioned above. So please, remember that almost all of the percentages of children abused are abused by those close to them, that a stranger-danger situation is very unlikely to happen. My own work in the mental health/social services field in New Mexico has corresponded to these figures, as well. Child sexual abuse is almost always generational, as is physical and verbal abuse of children. Please help protect children in the most dangerous environment there is, the family home. jayd from NM

I don't agree with how your framing these guys and telling us on tv what they are saying to these under age girls but not what these under age girls are saying to them i'm sure they're leading them on! It all has to do with how well these parents are paying attention to there children, I have children and believe me there are way's to check on the things they are doing online! I beleive the "To Catch a Predator" production is doing a great service removing these predators off the street! Keep up the good work! I remember how surprised all involved with the production was the number of offenders, and it is shocking. I do feel the percentages would be much lower with female predators than male predators. The people that are really guilty here are the parents that give internet access to their children without parental controls. We have a law here in Texas that all firearms must be locked up so that the children don't have access. If you people really believe that the internet is a danger, LOCK it up. Murphy PD has not posecuted a single case to date because of the procedures used, which has been widely interpreted as the most incredable case of entrapment in the law inforcement industry. Even MSNBC held off airing the show for 4 months.

I am the mother of a 14 year old daughter. I was also victimized at age 13, long before there was an internet. I just watched "To Catch a Predator" for the second time, and saw the Texas group of criminals. I resent the fact that male pedophile predators of young boys and girls can allege that women would do such things. While there are some examples of unbalanced female teachers taking advantage of young students (and these are very wrong), I don't find it at all surprising that the sting team has only encountered one female online predator. Unfortunately, a small percentage of sick men do this, mistreating vulnerable children to meet their out-of-control needs. Women are capable of many bad things, but this particular behavior is mostly-male, and it does no good to deny it. Thank you to Dateline and all of the law-enforcement staff for stopping as many of these predators as possible.

It's almost as if your show has created a profile for child predators--mostly white males and a few men of Hispanic and Middle Eastern descent. I am aware there is much worse on pedophile message boards and in their so-called "community." Victims of sexual crimes and their families have fought for years, along with law enforcement, to stop the "blame the victim" behavior. As far as parents monitoring what their children are doing on the Internet -- of course, all parents that care should do this. But to blame the child (in these cases, they are only 12 or 13 years old, or "decoys" pretending to be that age) -- the child is so far younger than the legal age of consent that no matter what they say or do, they cannot be responsible. As the mother of a fourteen-year old, she wouldn't know the consequences of such actions. She is not an adult conducting an adult entertainment business, she is a child. And they are responding to the pedophile's encouragement. I didn't have to see but two or three examples to see the way these conversations go. Anyway, it's a free country as far as speech goes. I just hope that most people can see through the "blame the victim" mentality to the rationalization of pedophilia that is behind this type of statement. I'd call it ignorant, but it's no more ignorant than "she asked for it" by wearing a short skirt in rape cases. Even today - sometimes that works.

There are a lot of women who are seeking some kind of relationship for attention and/or sex. These women start to believe the lines the men are saying. The men ask questions to find out what the women want to hear. If the woman is really needy they end up loosing their money and most important their self-esteem. There needs to be more exposure of these men. Many of them use the internet multiplayer game sites to find their targets. They start out with innocent conversation during games. They slip in a few lines to seek a more intimate conversation. If the wormen respond, they escalate it and ask to be added on their friends list. Once they get onto the womans friends list the frequencey of contact and depth of the conversations increases. Some man are married and do this for the thrill of cybersex and control. Others are single and will actually want to meet the women. Why not expose this type of predator?

Although this show is not pleasant to watch, I always watch it because it is in fact a painful reality that we have to face. Although it does seem that Perverted Justice is definately pushing these men to meet with the young girls, I still agree with what they are doing. The fact is that 13 or 14 year-old girls are not in a position to make responsible decisions for themselves, and just because a girl that age wants sex does not make it OK for an older man to take advantage of her. So I applaud Dateline and Chris Hanson for endeavoring to catch these men. That said, the only thing that really bothers me about the whole thing is the injustice of the fact that while these preditors are being exposed (as they should be) and prosecuted (as they should be), at the same time people like Huge Hefner, Steve Hirst, and other mass producers of the pornography that is fueling this epidemic go unpunished and are even celebrated in our society. Their money protects them from the brutally destructive consequences that their pornography is having on the minds of those who buy it and watch it. This to me is a horrible injustice. Nobody likes to hear of women being raped and killed, but they like to dress up as Hefner or the playboy bunnies on Halloween. But can no one see the connection? Studies have shown that, amazingly, the most common factor between men who end up in jail is their exposure to pornography. Pornography de-sensitizes the person who looks at it--it objectifies people, makes them into objects instead of people, making it easier to justify crimes in the mind of the one who is doing the act--because that person is just an object. Pornography eventually destroys a person's capacity for real intimacy. And yet people don't seem to think pronography is a big deal--they seem to think it is just normal. But it's that "normal", "no-big-deal" pronography that is fueling what we see happening on Dateline and I just wish somebody could make that connection and start pointing the finger at the people who are even more guilty than those being caught on Dateline's "To Catch A Preditor"--the producers of pornography in this country who are creating this problem from the top down and being shielded from the consequences of it.

No one seems to mention that this is a last step in process. These men are not always "enticed" to talk to younger females. If you are familiar with online chat, a person can choose your screen name and send a personal message, seen only by the receiver, right to their computer. Alot of times, screennames "entice", but they don't have to entice to be targeted by a male looking for sex (of any kind). These men are aggressive and blunt, and these girls are very capable of teasing. These men waste no time getting to the nitty gritty. Meanwhile these words have passed your child's eyes, and no one seems to be concerned about THAT. But the point is that these men should not be doing this in the first place. They are supposed to be in control of their urges (ew!). The internet, though, allows them to think that what they are doing is normal and acceptable (through countless pictures of the willing, and extremely easy access to young people who will indulge them to a certain point maybe because it is funny, or maybe to a young girl who thinks she is desirable because of the attention she receives) How much do you want to bet that your young daughter, if allowed access to the internet, has not yet seen male genitalia or heard of oral sex. Ask your daughters and your sons. Profile pictures can be naked pictures of a person and rooms full of people are requested to go check a profile picture and you think your curious child would ignore that? Once I found out that my son (grown now) had been requested to view a profile picture and it was the picture of a little girl sitting naked on top of the nether region of a naked grown man. She was smiling. Sad, sick and TRUE! The more these images and conversations are experienced, the more "normal" these things become. I think that is much bigger worry than how many men compared to women are being caught. Or if these men are being set up. An adult is supposed to be smart enough not to engage in such activities, or be seduced by them. These guys are perverts, plain and simple. And too many people are raising the BAIT!

I have kids in my home, and I work with kids, and I can tell you that a working parent cannot monitor the computer or the kid all the time. It takes a second to click out of a program and these kids are smart. They also have access to computers at school, the library, and at friends homes. Kids have sex, do drugs, drink and who knows what else, because they cannot be watched all the time. If there is a will, they will find a way. We simply cannot watch kids all the time. All we can do is teach them as best we can and hope for the best. I am very lucky to have great kids (as far as I know)!Your program is doing more in the area of preditors than any talk I could give my kids could ever do. Thank you!

They are out there but are not the ones chatting and then setting up a meeting to have sexual encounters with and underage child. It happens to be men that should know better and they should be taught a lesson. If we can keep them off our streets and away from our children then it's worked. I just think that there should be a more severe charge for repeat offenders or people that have been convicted of a sexual offense previously. You're doing a fantastic job keep up the great work. I believe Dateline is doing a great public service in filling in where the law seems to be absent. Society need a pro-active group (Perverted Justice) that can draw the deviants to justice. Reading through all the past comments, I am thankful that I made it through my childhood without being raped by a family member, neighbor, teacher, clergy, friend or complete stranger. I am sure I wouldn't be the person I am today had some horrific act happened. And as for the "ratings" arguement, if it is rated high, it is because people want to see justice. As for your "entrapment" and "humiliation" claims, too bad! No child forced these men to type or take the pictures they did. Adults should be able to exhibit self control at all times. If one cannot, there are hard lessons and consequences. I have one last request for Dateline: ask the police to use the taser more. These guys deserve it!!

I believe this show is "creating" sexual predators. Cops going into adult men chatrooms and poasing as young women trying to find some takers. They'll always find one or two. I wish that you all would investigate people who are on the instant messenger ICQ. Back when I was younger I had an ID with them and talked to people on it. The situations I found on there were so disturbing that I left ICQ. I had young girls tell me stories about having sex with their parents. I had a girl who was 13 tell me that when she was 6 years old her mother held her down while her father raped her. The young girl thought it was natural to have sex with her parents because that is how she had grown up. I had stories like this told me to me many times. If you look into the interests of some of these people you will even see such things listed as mothers having sex with sons looking for other mother and son groups, etc. Maybe there should be a few shows that focus on catching family members who are assualting their children on a daily basis. At the time I was a teenager myself and the only way I found to help these young kids was to listen to their stories and be there for them when they needed to talk.

I think if there might be anyone who has studied psychology in the departments of this show, they would have known that, any adult who is lured with nice chatting and sex arousing stuffs, can develop a feeling of sex or at least continue chatting pron... so i guess this program is completely wrong and this program is sufficient enough to find the enemployed americans who are using their black mind to make someone guilty..... Hello- I just wanted to comment on some of the things that readers have said about your show. To Catch a Predator is a great way to keep potential predators off line. I bet there are tons of people who have watched your show and have stopped chatting with teens online. Everyone is pointing the finger at the parents saying they should be responsible for their children actions and should control what is said on the internet. It is 2007 and most teenage kids are likely to be left home alone. With the divorce rate as high as it is there is a high chance that parents are not able to supervise their children at all times. There are many ways to get online. There is no reason why any man or woman should be solicitating sex to a person they know is underage. Who cares if the so called "decoys" are luring them. They should not have been on the site in the first place. There is no excuse that would gratify any sympathy from me. I was in awe at the men who arrived....doctors, lawyers, married men with kids???? I think that what you are doing is great. Please keep up the good work. You should really consider coming to Baltimore. Chris is the perfect person for this show. He is very dry and to the point and really knows what to say. Believing that these guys made "momentary" bad decisions when they showed up at the Dateline house and should not be arrested is the same as believing a person should not be prosecuted for drunk driving, or even murder. After all, one could argue that the drunk who killed the driver in the other car made a "momentary" bad decision to get behind the wheel. Do we "create" murderers by selling gun and knives? Absolutely not! These guys are grown men and need to take responsibility for their own behavior and choices (yes, they had a CHOICE). In some circumstances they had an hours long drive to contemplate the consequences. The Perverted Justice folks deserve their fee and then some. They have caught a few predators in MN and I hope they continue their hard work to take even more of these guys off the streets. I would love to have the show come to MN. My home is open and available anytime for use by Dateline.

I have a young daughter and I fully understand the need to protect her. Thanks to Dateline, the public now sees that the predators aren't just the lower income people, they are anyone in society, even the respected people. A predator can be from any walk of life, any profession. I wrote my book to show how evil these predators can be. "I Walked a Mile with Sorrow" is about the abuse that I went through and how I over came the abuse. I don't feel that predators can be cured. It is in their blood. I have seen all the shows for "To Catch a Preditor" and I know for a fact that there are numerous preditors out there even though people choose not to see it. The internet is a haven for these sick people and I agree that there should be tougher laws, but to have people say that child preditors is not a big problem is outragious. I am a Network Technican and I have had to call the police numberous times when working on a PC because i saw items that sounded like it was child porn. Problem is that parents are too afraid to take charge of what there kids do. monitor your kids access on myspace, make sure they dont have any dirty photos and not talking to people they dont know. And make sure they know not to meet strangers online. Even when I was a kid I was told not to meet strangers from the internet becuase that puts not only there life in danger but the whole family.

I think that people should think twice whether they want to post pictures, name, and other personal information online. Many people forget that other online community people can view this information. It's sad when you go to go a myspace or friendster and see alot of personal information like height, location, education, pictures, and more posted online. i think they need to bring this show to titusville florida. There are so many preditors online here. When i was between the ages of 13-16 i talked online all the time thats all i ever did when i got home from school, there were so many guys that would talk to me that were over the age of 25. I think i had like at least 10 to 15 guys a night talking to me and wanting to haave sex and wanting to send me money to travel to their house or they wre willing to come to mine. But if they decide to come to titusville they need to contact me to help cause i know how to get them here!!

I take offense to the competitors like ABC for example tarnishing the good work you have done that has saved alot of children pain or possibly worse death. The people of Murphy Texas must not care that their children were kept safe by you flushing out these predators before thier children were hurt. I'm quite shure not all of the people in the town of Murphy had a issue with your show but the other stations are making it sound as if the whole town was aganst NBC. To make matters worse now the district attorny is now saying he was not in support of the show and letting all these men go free. Is it not the job of the district atorny to protect the community? I do not understand the logic with the release of these dangerous men. Is the current DA they afraid of being considerd involved because of that lawsuit that the wife of the DA who commited suiside may implacate them? Ahh does no one else see what I do? That man he took his own life NBC is in no way responsible for his parsonal actions.
