After every ‘To Catch the Predator’ broadcast, the Dateline inbox always gets this question from viewers: Where are the female predators?

Everyone do what is right and research perverted justice and ask yourself why dateline pays them in excess of $100,000 to produce predators. Then ask yourself if the public would agree with 10+/- armed police officers throwing a woman down on camera and roughing her up if that would be acceptable. Research the terms of service agreements that will soon be not able to be enforced because dateline and perverted justice (not law enforcement) choose to ignore and lie about ages and do not follow the rules. Research how the Arizona Supreme Court in May of 2006 said no evidence from Perverted Justice would be allowed in their court of law. There are underlying factors such as .....microsoft owns a major part of dateline to catch a predator, and think about the show and how the top three chat programs it talks about are aol, yahoo, and myspace. They label these programs as the worst on the internet, some they say are pedo enablers. Might they be the competition? Take a look at your computer and see if the microsoft based chat program came with it and then ask yourself why is the program that comes on virtually EVERY computer not even busted one person? Its a way to market their product and at the expense of innocent families and guys that make bad decisions not necessarily illegal ones. Read up on identity theft and identity fraud, wire tapping laws, consent laws that deal with hidden microphones and cameras, entrapment laws, read up on how it is illegal to act as a private investigator or pay someone to act as a private investigator and then ask yourself why they get away with what they do. Its all fun and games until they trick one of your family members into meeting. Read the diff articles on how they exagerate the Predator stats and how they admittedly just made the number 50,000 predators up. The Predator issue is a serious one but there is not an epidemic like they fabricate and want you to believe. After all if there was no epidemic they couldnt sell you software to monitor your child online. Also if you think this is such a good thing get windows vista and have a built in patch to your personal computer that allows the government to access your computer at will. DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE ON TV your parents taught you that as a child why should it change?

While I am very glad that To Catch A Predator is doing the work it's doing.....to demystify the frightening range of what child sexual predators look like, what their backgrounds are, etc.......I remain concerned that there is less than a 15% chance, I believe that a child sexual predator will be a non-intimate member of the family/community to the child. 85% or more of child sexual predators are: mothers, fathers, step-fathers, step-mothers, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters (in siblings cases, the sibling is almost always found to have a child sexual abuse history of their own from other family members), extended family living close by such as grandparents, etc....close family friends who are in and out of the house, the child's teacher, the child's youth pastor, etc.

The last workshop on such topics I attended placed the figure at somewhat less than 12% of children were molested outside of the family, and well known respected familial authority figures, such as mentioned above.

So please, remember that almost all of the percentages of children abused are abused by those close to them, that a stranger-danger situation is very unlikely to happen. My own work in the mental health/social services field in New Mexico has corresponded to these figures, as well. Child sexual abuse is almost always generational, as is physical and verbal abuse of children.

Please help protect children in the most dangerous environment there is, the family home.

He would be asking her to come over and she would respond with a chill, since I will not let her go anywhere, but he was writing her that he wanted TO F her and that he was home J Off. I resent the fact that male pedophile predators of young boys and girls can allege that women would do such things. While there are some examples of unbalanced female teachers taking advantage of young students (and these are very wrong), I don't find it at all surprising that the sting team has only encountered one female online predator. Unfortunately, a small percentage of sick men do this, mistreating vulnerable children to meet their out-of-control needs. Women are capable of many bad things, but this particular behavior is mostly-male, and it does no good to deny it. what in the world is a 15 year old kid doing talking sex to a full grown adult stranger anyways? where is mom and dad?
i believe it should be a crime for both parties involved to talk sex and/or meet in expectation of either. in as much as its legally wrong and morally unaccepted for a grown adult to do or attempt such acts , it should be equally wrong for a teenager to seekout such activity with an adult. such inticement only encourages a sick mind. kids noadays arent held responsible for thier own actions and parents seem to always bear the brunt of too many "acts" gone bad. kids dont understand that the people / strangers they are talking to in chat rooms are actually real people with some, namely adults, or all having bad intentions .i have heard stories where teenagers have chatted with adults for weeks before either running away to meet these adults or meeting for a few minutes.
having a law that states no minor child shall converse, trade pics,or agree to meet, an adult that such aquintance initiated from an online chat, shall be a crime . if the fact that it is a crime to do so deters just one child , then maybe it will have saved one life and that to me is worth it.

Where are the female predators?

Even more than being shocked at the numbers of predators you can expose, I am completely dumbfounded at the people who make excuses for these perverts. I am aware there is much worse on pedophile message boards and in their so-called "community." Victims of sexual crimes and their families have fought for years, along with law enforcement, to stop the "blame the victim" behavior. As far as parents monitoring what their children are doing on the Internet -- of course, all parents that care should do this. But to blame the child (in these cases, they are only 12 or 13 years old, or "decoys" pretending to be that age) -- the child is so far younger than the legal age of consent that no matter what they say or do, they cannot be responsible. As the mother of a fourteen-year old, she wouldn't know the consequences of such actions. She is not an adult conducting an adult entertainment business, she is a child. And they are responding to the pedophile's encouragement. I didn't have to see but two or three examples to see the way these conversations go. Anyway, it's a free country as far as speech goes. I just hope that most people can see through the "blame the victim" mentality to the rationalization of pedophilia that is behind this type of statement. I'd call it ignorant, but it's no more ignorant than "she asked for it" by wearing a short skirt in rape cases. Even today - sometimes that works.

Where are the female predators?

I appreciate what Dateline is doing to get the predators off the computers and streets, keep up the great work!!! THANK YOU for the excellent and informing show , "" TO CATCH A PREDATOR "". I am apalled at the so-called ""normal"" men out there that continue to persue the children of America---in such a horrible and vile way. It is amazing what your show has brought to the attention of Americans, and to try to help parents learn the possible things that their young children are getting involved in.

The MOST amazing thing in the shows, is the caliber of men involved in these situations, ( that of lawyers, doctors, teachers, school counselors, policemen, fireman, and even clergy). To most of use, these are professions that we, as well as our children,"" put their trust in "".

I have watched the Datline episodes of men contacting underage girls.

There is also the male preditor who hits on adult vulnerable women. Some men are only after cybersex and to see how much control they can achieve over the woman. Some others are in it for whatever they can get, sex, money, control.

There are a lot of women who are seeking some kind of relationship for attention and/or sex. These women start to believe the lines the men are saying. The men ask questions to find out what the women want to hear.

If the woman is really needy they end up loosing their money and most important their self-esteem. There needs to be more exposure of these men. Many of them use the internet multiplayer game sites to find their targets. They start out with innocent conversation during games. They slip in a few lines to seek a more intimate conversation. If the wormen respond, they escalate it and ask to be added on their friends list.

Once they get onto the womans friends list the frequencey of contact and depth of the conversations increases.

Some man are married and do this for the thrill of cybersex and control. Others are single and will actually want to meet the women.

Why not expose this type of predator?

Instead of showing some humility and concern for the actions you all have taken, you take the opposite tack and broadcast it. You intentionally entice these guys, you make it look easy, that all these slutty tarts are out there ready to give them blow jobs and free sex.

You have yet to openly and completely disclose the full transcripts of how your decoys entice these men. Although it does seem that Perverted Justice is definately pushing these men to meet with the young girls, I still agree with what they are doing. The fact is that 13 or 14 year-old girls are not in a position to make responsible decisions for themselves, and just because a girl that age wants sex does not make it OK for an older man to take advantage of her. So I applaud Dateline and Chris Hanson for endeavoring to catch these men. That said, the only thing that really bothers me about the whole thing is the injustice of the fact that while these preditors are being exposed (as they should be) and prosecuted (as they should be), at the same time people like Huge Hefner, Steve Hirst, and other mass producers of the pornography that is fueling this epidemic go unpunished and are even celebrated in our society. Their money protects them from the brutally destructive consequences that their pornography is having on the minds of those who buy it and watch it. This to me is a horrible injustice. Nobody likes to hear of women being raped and killed, but they like to dress up as Hefner or the playboy bunnies on Halloween. But can no one see the connection? Studies have shown that, amazingly, the most common factor between men who end up in jail is their exposure to pornography. Pornography de-sensitizes the person who looks at it--it objectifies people, makes them into objects instead of people, making it easier to justify crimes in the mind of the one who is doing the act--because that person is just an object. Pornography eventually destroys a person's capacity for real intimacy. And yet people don't seem to think pronography is a big deal--they seem to think it is just normal. But it's that "normal", "no-big-deal" pronography that is fueling what we see happening on Dateline and I just wish somebody could make that connection and start pointing the finger at the people who are even more guilty than those being caught on Dateline's "To Catch A Preditor"--the producers of pornography in this country who are creating this problem from the top down and being shielded from the consequences of it.

Where are the female predators?

Melanie C. These men are not always "enticed" to talk to younger females. If you are familiar with online chat, a person can choose your screen name and send a personal message, seen only by the receiver, right to their computer. Alot of times, screennames "entice", but they don't have to entice to be targeted by a male looking for sex (of any kind). These men are aggressive and blunt, and these girls are very capable of teasing. These men waste no time getting to the nitty gritty. Meanwhile these words have passed your child's eyes, and no one seems to be concerned about THAT. But the point is that these men should not be doing this in the first place. They are supposed to be in control of their urges (ew!). The internet, though, allows them to think that what they are doing is normal and acceptable (through countless pictures of the willing, and extremely easy access to young people who will indulge them to a certain point maybe because it is funny, or maybe to a young girl who thinks she is desirable because of the attention she receives) How much do you want to bet that your young daughter, if allowed access to the internet, has not yet seen male genitalia or heard of oral sex. Ask your daughters and your sons. Profile pictures can be naked pictures of a person and rooms full of people are requested to go check a profile picture and you think your curious child would ignore that? Once I found out that my son (grown now) had been requested to view a profile picture and it was the picture of a little girl sitting naked on top of the nether region of a naked grown man. She was smiling. Sad, sick and TRUE! The more these images and conversations are experienced, the more "normal" these things become. I think that is much bigger worry than how many men compared to women are being caught. Or if these men are being set up. An adult is supposed to be smart enough not to engage in such activities, or be seduced by them. These guys are perverts, plain and simple. And too many people are raising the BAIT!

Where are the female predators?

Manipulated or not, man or woman, whatever. I would like to exprss my disgust with your program which I consider a true example of yellow journalism at its snaring worst. On the pretext of providing a public service feature, the promoters of "Dateline" engage in a questionable search for predators which thinly disguises their true purpose, that of servicing the spurious curiosity of some. By preying on the foibles of a few deviants and exposing them on national TV you have provided the nation with a spectacle of a circus of horrros. I suppose you believe you deserve congratulations, right?

What you do is morally questionable, even if not legally so. You set the stage for the perpetrators and invite them to commit a crime most of them might not have committed but for momentary stupidity. It is true some of the people you are luring into your trap are of dubious character, but the ends do not justify your means, which makes me ask who is worse, whether they or you. What possible vindication can anyone find in their humiliation and wretchedness? You are providing no service. Not to us, the public, not to children, not to anyone. In fact, your lack of ethics parallels theirs.

Entrapment is illegal in most states, if not in Texas whose criminal justice system has yet to come out of the Middle Ages. It is ovbious that, although they were liars, some of those who answered your invitations were not old timers. If the local law enforcement agencies were more englightend, those people would be receiving treatment, instead of being unwitting and unwillling performers in your circus. Besides, by humiliating them im public you deprive them of the privacy that even those under arrest are entitled to, not to mention depriving them of the chance of rebuilding their lives. Spare me the frayed excuse that they humiliated themselves, you are the vehicle of publication. I am suprised you haven't been sued yet.

I agree with the prosecutor's sister. Her brother's death was not suicide. Instead of having a chance to treat his condion, you drove him to despair. I also believe that bottom feeders like you should be sued because what you do is despicable.

Yours very sincerely,

Please at least make an attempt to read the original post before commenting on it, because I think it does an excellent job of showing the difference between the people who simply have fantasies and the predators who ACT on those urges. The moment they try to initiate contact with a child, share or ask for pornagraphic pictures or real life information, they have crossed the line, they are out of control and need to be stopped by any means necessary.

Where are the female predators?

aloha chris i love your show dont listen to all these guys that are talking neg.of the show.like Krissy Seattle, WA.i wish it doesnt happen to her kids or her family member,,and for Gary, New Haven, CT.i was raise in new haven too, lots of crazy guys over there i hope its doesnt happen to your family member.i know you know where is congress ave or the project.that why i live in hawaii now.keep up the good, no "the great job" on NBC..mahalo...and what happen to that attorney he knew he was wrong that why he did what he had to do.may god forgive him.

Where are the female predators?

Paul L. They may be lured there, but they are the adults. And they were going there to try and get a 13 year old kid to have sex with them! How much more guilty can you be? Should we wait till one of these sickos forces themselves on a child? Or abducts someones kid? I bet if it were one of YOUR children that was being chatted up by these perverts ya'll would have a differnet perspective on this. Dateline is doing these men a favor by arresting them. Because if someone was to ever hurt one of my kids or any kids I know in the way that these people are trying to hurt these children they would find justice the good ole fashioned way ALOT harder to handle!! We adults should be held accountable for our actions AND we know better! And parents should get of their keesters and monitor their kids more closely! This show is not going to catch female predators for two reasons.

1) Women do not have the same sex drive as men. Seriously, when was the last time you heard of a woman paying a prostitute for sex?

2) Women aren't typically sexually attracted to children.

3) Women are more interested in relationships than sex. Sure you hear of stories of female teachers molesting their underage students, but these women have already formed RELATIONSHIPS with these students. Sure they have sex with the students, but they get involved in the relationships for the caring, love and nurturing that women crave in a relationship, not for the sex. I'm not saying that this makes it right, just pointing out that women have different motivations for getting involved with children than men do and that Dateline's method only addresses those motivations that appeal to men.

I WATCH YOUR PROGRAM EVERY WEEK. I THINK IT IS SHOWING PEOPLE HOW THE PREDATORS WORK IN GETTING YOUNG CHILDREN. ALTHOUGH, I THINK THERE IS SOME INTRAPMENT INVOLVED IN IT BECAUSE THE OFENDERS ARE NOT TALKING TO AN ACTUAL CHILD WHEN THEY ARE BEING SET UP. NEVERTHELESS, IT IS SHOWING JUST HOW THE PREDATORS GO ABOUT GETTING A CHILD FOR THEIR SICK PLEASURES.

ALSO, I WONDER WHY DATELINE NEVER DOES A PROGRAM SETTING FEMALE PREDATORS UP SHOWING HOW THEY GO ABOUT GETTING CHILDREN. ALTHOUGH DATELINE ,FOR SOME REASON, DOESN'T LET PEOPLE KNOW THERE ARE FEMALE PREDATORS OUT THERE THE SAME AS MEN PREDATORS, I KNOW THAT THERE ARE. WOMEN GO IN CHAT ROOMS THE SAME AS MEN AND DO JUST AS BAD AS THE MEN PREDATORS. IS DATLINE PARCIAL TO WOMEN AND DON'T WANT TRO SHOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING? WHY KEEP WHAT THEY ARE DOING COVERED UP?

I LIKE YOUR PROGRAM VERY MUCH AND LIKE YOU BRINKING THE PERVERTS OUT INTO THE OPENING. BUT, PLEASE BE FAIR. PLEASE DO A SHOW ON THE FEMALE PREDATORS. DON'T HIDE THEM AND WHAT THEY ARE ALSO DOING TO CHILDREN. ONE PREDATOR ISN'T ANY BETTER THAN ANOTHER ONE, NO MATTER WHAT THEIR SEX IS. PLEASE CHRIS. I love your show! I find it to be enlightening yet, extremely disturbing. I don't often watch TV however, "To Catch A Predator" is so compelling(at times redundant and predictable) that if I miss an episode, I watch it online later that week. That's how I'm writing this. In fact Chris, I think that all of your exclusives are so good that I am taking this forum to recover a previous story you've done for Dateline. You had a story back in 2004 about a company called Quixtar. I was captivated by how you followed them for a year. I was recently confronted by someone trying to get me to join the business. I did a little research on the internet and would like to see you revisit the story. Aside from that I just wanted to take this moment to praise what a great job you're doing with the "Predator" series. Keep up the great work and continued success with this and upcoming series.

Where are the female predators?

Dear Chris,as a mother I just wanted to say thank you, thank you and 100000000000000000000000000000000 thank you for this program.

I noticed that most of the shows take place in CA and TX. Is it because the laws are stricter there? I had been wondering the same thing about Female predators and why there haven't been any stories about them, and your article above answered my questions. Keep up the good work? Oh, the only comment I have about the decoys are they are not dressed like most teens I see and maybe if they dressed alittle more modern and no pig tails in their hair, may help prevent the predators from leaving so quickly sometimes....Just a thought.

Where are the female predators?

Dear Chris,

I watch every episode of To Catch a Predator and I think it is a wonderful show. It makes me more aware of the kind of people who get on the internet and do this type of thing to kids. It makes me sick to know that men and women can do this type of thing to children. However, we must dig deeper into why this people do this sort of thing. Were they victims of the same kind of abuse that plan to inflict on the children that they prey on? What is even more amazing is the number of men who have watched this series and fall right into the trap. These men don't care if they get caught. They want what they want and that's that. I hope you do more shows like this. And to the citzens of Murphy, Tx, Give Dateline, Perverted Justice and your local law enforcement a hand because they are trying to make you aware that these people exist and they plan on doing something about it. They are protecting the most precious thing and that is our children. Once their innocence is gone, there is nothing left.

Where are the female predators?

It has something to do with TESTOSTERONE. First off, I don't believe such a segment would be successful because I don't believe the women will show up. This is a PREDOMINATELY MALE weakness that is being exploited on this show. It seems a lot of the males here have a tough time accepting that women just don't have the same sex drive as men. THAT is why you're not seeing female predators on this show. Despite the handful of well-publicized teacher-student relationships, it is a rare woman who is interested in sex with a child.

Where are the female predators?

God bless you Chris, and bless anyone who is responsible for this show.

I just don't understand why viewers take any thing they see on TV as gospel. Do people not understand that the only motive Dateline has is RATINGS? Yes, predators should be stopped at all costs. BUT...not just the ones that gain ratings for the fat cats in the media. What about the priests, teachers and the foster parents? Not to mention the fact that the United States turns sexual deviants out of prisons YEARS before they have served their whole sentence. And studies show that the sickos get sicker after being released....they kill the victims in the attempt to silence them. Castration for repeat sex offenders..even that is too good for them.

Where are the female predators?

Janice, even if your comment is true (which I don't believe) that Dateline's only motivation is ratings. . .WHO CARES? The young girl thought it was natural to have sex with her parents because that is how she had grown up. I had stories like this told me to me many times. If you look into the interests of some of these people you will even see such things listed as mothers having sex with sons looking for other mother and son groups, etc. Maybe there should be a few shows that focus on catching family members who are assualting their children on a daily basis. Women, in general, seem to look for relationships and not necessarily sex – although female offenders will have sex with a minor. They’re just less likely to seek someone out randomly online.”
Weiss also says that in relationships, women are generally less aggressive than men — and that this is also true in this case. “So a ‘female predator’ needs to cross more social and cultural lines to actually become an offender.

It seems to me that once again, we are willing to give women a free pass thus, making exuses that justifies they're behavior. Women are very seldom held accountable for, crimes they committ here or aborad. We are quick to use science or, resite from some study that was done to explaine why she comitted that particular act. I just wanted to comment on some of the things that readers have said about your show.

To Catch a Predator is a great way to keep potential predators off line. I bet there are tons of people who have watched your show and have stopped chatting with teens online. Everyone is pointing the finger at the parents saying they should be responsible for their children actions and should control what is said on the internet. It is 2007 and most teenage kids are likely to be left home alone. With the divorce rate as high as it is there is a high chance that parents are not able to supervise their children at all times. There are many ways to get online.

There is no reason why any man or woman should be solicitating sex to a person they know is underage. Who cares if the so called "decoys" are luring them. They should not have been on the site in the first place. There is no excuse that would gratify any sympathy from me. I was in awe at the men who arrived....doctors, lawyers, married men with kids???? I think that what you are doing is great. Please keep up the good work. You should really consider coming to Baltimore.

Chris is the perfect person for this show. He is very dry and to the point and really knows what to say. The expressions on the predators faces are worth it. I hope they are noticed all over America, this is the only way this problem get under control.

After all, one could argue that the drunk who killed the driver in the other car made a "momentary" bad decision to get behind the wheel. Do we "create" murderers by selling gun and knives? Absolutely not! These guys are grown men and need to take responsibility for their own behavior and choices (yes, they had a CHOICE). In some circumstances they had an hours long drive to contemplate the consequences. The Perverted Justice folks deserve their fee and then some. They have caught a few predators in MN and I hope they continue their hard work to take even more of these guys off the streets. I would love to have the show come to MN. My home is open and available anytime for use by Dateline.

Where are the female predators?

I don't think some of these guys realize, these sick "women" they see chatting online are more than likely men. you can be who ever you want to online. I a survivor of child molestation and rape. I commend you for all of your efforts to protect our children. I have a young daughter and I fully understand the need to protect her. Thanks to Dateline, the public now sees that the predators aren't just the lower income people, they are anyone in society, even the respected people. A predator can be from any walk of life, any profession. I wrote my book to show how evil these predators can be. "I Walked a Mile with Sorrow" is about the abuse that I went through and how I over came the abuse. I don't feel that predators can be cured. It is in their blood. I will help in any way to have the laws changed to protect the children and to catch them.

Thanks so much to Chris and Dateline

The internet is a haven for these sick people and I agree that there should be tougher laws, but to have people say that child preditors is not a big problem is outragious. I am a Network Technican and I have had to call the police numberous times when working on a PC because i saw items that sounded like it was child porn. Problem is that parents are too afraid to take charge of what there kids do. monitor your kids access on myspace, make sure they dont have any dirty photos and not talking to people they dont know. And make sure they know not to meet strangers online. Even when I was a kid I was told not to meet strangers from the internet becuase that puts not only there life in danger but the whole family.

Where are the female predators?

DEAR CHRIS

Please continue with this excellent work. My only problem is hearing that these men get out on bail. They should really be glad I am not running the show because they would be held without bail (to further protect our children) and would get life sentences for their actions to even further protect our children. I bet they would think more than twice before considering having sex or even chatting on-line with a minor child if they thought they would spend the rest of their life incarcerated.

Where are the female predators?

I am an elementary education student at the University of North Alabama.
