I am so glad you are doing this. I was a victim from my natural father from the time I was 3 til I was 17. So when I see these pigs I think the best part is when they get tackled by the police. You see, Chris, I'm now 63 and I did not grow up in the time of instant communication. I remember seeing him touching my girlfriends and being mortified. I couldn't imagine what he would have done with access to computers.

I really like watching these shows but sometimes i wonder if this show is a entrapment. However on the other hand someone needed to do something like this to help stop people that does take advantage of children I would love to help with something like this. I also and beginning to wonder if some of these people are only show up just to be on dateline. What has made me come to that conclusion is because some of them talk a lot about this show when they get caught that raises flags for me. Also it is sad that they hurt their character and in addition, they go to jail and get a criminal record it is sad that some of them do this just for a few minutes of fame to be on television

As a father of two young children I find these shows deeply disturbing. As some may view this series as "good tv", I still appreciate the light that you are shedding on this subject. I shudder at the thought of how much of this goes on on a daily basis without being acknowledged. People from all walks of life have proven time & time again that this is a serious problem by showing up at your investigations. Unfortunately some have arrived at multiple locations & several others have seen your broadcasts but are still compelled to hurt these children. Please keep up the hard work and maybe someday we won't have to worry so much about the danger of sexual predators (although I find that highly unlikely).

It amazes me that the number of people caught aren't decreasing, and it amazes me more that parents aren't monitoring their kids closer. I work with computers for a living, and use the Internet every day. But it scares me for kids, because of the anonymity the internet provides. Kids want to experience life but aren't equipped to deal with adult issues. Yet, in a lot of cases the kids are allowed to roam free on the Internet I suppose because people think their kids are safe at home. These adults should pay a higher price for attempting, or in many cases actually taking advantage of children. Registering them on a web site isn't enough. Fines do nothing to deter their behavior, and do nothing for the victims. I wish I could offer what the penalty should be, but the only thing that comes to my mind is an ultimately permanent solution. Parents also have to take responsibility for teaching their kids about the dangers of the Internet and should be monitoring their activity. It isn't going to be a fix for all, but it will help and is definitely a start.

These people seem to never learn from their mistakes, especially the man who got caught with the 14 year old previously! You talk about grooming, and its like they have become pros at learning how to trick children. It is disgusting. These people need help, and as it talks about many times in the book To Catch a Predator, there needs to be places around the country where people can get help without it being looked at so badly. I live in an Oil driven town in Lea County New Mexico, and a registered sex affender lives less than 10 miles from my house. Your episodes are a real eye opener. My 14yr old went online last week, while at her friends house, and chatted with a 35yr old bartender. He went to meet her and her friend at 2am. When I found out the next day what had happened I was beside myself. I tried to file a report with the sheriff's dept and they said that because he didn't try anything, there was nothing I could do. I'm still so very frustrated about it. It's as if she has to be harmed before anyone will listen. Thank you for the work you do. If you have any suggestions for me at all, please let me know. I am a father of 3 kids. Two of the three are girls and my oldest child (girl) will be a teen in a few years. It is scary how many people showed up in your shows and my wife and i were thinking what is really scary is how many times the people who were caught on the show had committed this act and were not caught until they appeared on the show.

The other thing that I wonder and am scared to find out is how many preditors out there have committed these acts and the victim was too scared to say anything about it.

I am really glad this particular series started, I have a 12 yr old daughter, she lives with her father and has an older sibling in the home who has raging hormones. When my daughter comes to see me, I play your shows to her and talk about them throughout the show. It is so critical that young children understand, not just about sex, but about potentially ill people who can cause such damage in thier young lives. I cannot believe what some of these men use as an excuse for doing what they do, not to mention the fact that this show has been on for quite some time and a good majority of them don't know who Chris Hansen is. I wached the show last night and found it interesting. Viewers may be interested to know that in Canada these "Predators" would not be criminals for engaging in sex acts with a 14 year old girl, as that is the age of consent in our country. One thing that may not destroy the lives of the men, is after they have engaged in the chats, intervene before they try to meet girls. Show up at their houses and help them in getting treatment for their misplaced sexual urges. This will not make for sensational TV, but it will allow these men the opportunity for a second chance at life. We are all products of our environment and genetics. These men were once little boys too. They are someones son. Maybe they were sexually abused as children, leading to this type of predilection. The point of these excercises should be to make them think about the consequences of their actions before they really ruin peoples lives. New Jersey law must be pretty Orwellian for these men to be charged with "thought crimes". And why give them the "opportunity to just walk out the door" to be arrested?

To be honest I haven't watched this show a whole lot in the past, but overall I think you are doing a good job. The show is definitely based on "good intentions." Getting potential child predators off the streets. However, I often find myself feeling sorry for some of the guys who get caught. They are usually divorcees or lonely guys who need a little female attention and lack self confidence in dating women closer to their age. Don't you think this show borderlines on entrapment? Without potential predators you wouldn't have a show. Also what about the potential predators families' and friends and they will probably lose their jobs. We're talking about a lot of lives ruined. Basically these guys are doing probably what a lot of other men would do...have sex with a underage girl if they think they could get away with it. Again I praise your show as good entertainment, but it definitely has it's flaws. I guess I will stay tuned for more and see what happens this time.

The broadcast brilliantly discerns the difference between sensationalism ‘yellow’ journalism and groundbreaking television. The benefits of this program are literally immeasurable, for there is no accurate gauge on how many predators have been deterred by this show. Last night’s broadcast was both smart and poignant, while simultaneously being entertaining to the viewer. Chris Hansen condemning the one predator with the phrase “this is a good news, bad news situation” was sheer hilarity. My one question is do you think Internet predators are a recent phenomena, or has our society finally exposed a serious problem? As an individual who works with public officials, I understand these messages go through a variety of filter and may never reach their intended reader. I see this type of behavior everyday. I am a Parole Officer for the State of WV and I assist in the state mandated sex offender counseling that is required of parolees as a condition of their release on parole. I believe that this is a compulsion that most of the offenders are unable to separate into right and wrong, therefore they cannot understand the consequenses that surround this type of behavior. As we witnessed last night a gentleman claims he consulted his lawyer about meeting a young girl and even after being told that his actions would be illegal he still went to meet the young girl. This demonstrates a severe lack in ability to determine that actions such as these are considered an injustice. Most of these offenders have already justified their actions by believing that the minor victim deserves a better lover or that the victim asked for it. These people lack any sort of moral fortitude and they justify their actions by placing blame on the victim. I believe that most of these individuals suffer from psychopathic symptoms and grandiose delusions. On the other hand I have noticed that some of these offenders may commit these crimes just to be seen on national TV. I believe that more investigations need to be done like this, at least it will prevent some of these offenders from committing these acts while they are engaged in the on-line encounter with a decoy or in custody as a result of the investigation. However, this type of crime will never stop or even begin to slow down until harsher sentences are handed down that does not include sentencing outside of incarceration and the parole boards stop granting parole to sex offenders the first time they are eligible for parole. Longer sentences are the only way to stop some of these people and they will only stop while they are incarcerated because they are unable to get in contact with a potential victim. Most of these people will never stop offending completely, only at times when there is no prey to be had.

This is not entrapment at all. These men willfully solicited adolecents for the purpose of sexual gratification. Chris Hanson and his crew were not there with the predators when they deliberately made contact with these decoys. We should always be on guard and pro-active when it comes to protecting young ones.

Female police officers dress as prostitutes to catch sexual prowlers and undercover cops put their lives at risk in an attempt to nab drug dealers. No one forces the people to stop the car or to sell drugs. It's a matter of them taking personal responsibility whether it's in real life or on the internet.

I don't watch the show to be entertained. I watch it to learn. What I find the most amazing is the lies and the lack of concern for the intended victim. Any remorse that shows on their faces is for themselves, for getting caught. They could care less about the welfare of the child. Why on earth wouldn't we want these investigations and exposes to occur in every town and every city across the United States?

Rehabilitation? You can't force someone to want to help themselves. These are criminals, not mental patients. They can think clearly enough to entice and manipulate young victims. They're perfectly capable of obtaining vehicles, driver's licenses, guns and condoms. Seems to me the only thing wrong mentally or emotionally is their refusal to be accountable for their actions.

And one more thing. I don't care if they have to suffer embarrassment or humiliation or marital problems. How many teenagers lives have been ruined by sexual predators who were never caught?

I think the immense shame brought upon these predators and their families has to eventually have an effect. We can educate our children, but people have to put real sanctions/pressure on their known family members who are doing this. How much of a shock can this be? Apparently even with a conscience [law enforcement person in Texas who shot himself], this behavior is too addictive/compulsive. Perhaps the next series investigates medications that address sexual deviance. I believe it's done in Canada more than here.

Chris, I am disturbed by your decision to host this program. I imagine that you tell yourself--as do most who post here--that you are protecting children and serving justice. However, you and your production team are not members of law enforcement or the legal system, you are using entrapment to humiliate suspects who, while most likely disturbed and willing to have sex with a minor, have usually committed no actual crime. If you care about the children, why not take some of the resources in having the Dateline crew on-site (including the cost of your time) and use that to do more sting operations. Then, you could merely report on all of your successes (what's your conviction rate?) from the studio, without subjecting the friends and families of the suspects to the humiliation like you do. That won't happen. Because there are a lot of Joe and Jill America's out there for which the show (a) satisfies their voyeuristic urges, and/or (b) validates their fears that sexual predators are taking over the country. It's about viewership and advertising dollars. That's it. You would host Dateline: To Catch a Monkey That Urinates On Zoo Visitors if it resulted in the revenue that TCAP does. As Bill O'Reilly says, "Tell me where I'm wrong." Please consider posting this, even thought it goes against the grain of the other pat-on-the-back posts I see here.

Yes, it is 100% entrapment. If you go back and read some of the chat logs, you will realize that in many cases the decoys are very aggressive in the chat. They practically beg the men to come over to the house. And the men are stupid enough to believe that it is all real. So of course when they arrive they know they are gonna get arrested. Fortunately, I can tell when someone is lying about their age and identity on-line. I can also spot fake pictures and a fake profile. I will always ask the other user "Do you have a web cam or a digital cam?" 99% of the time, the answer is NO. That is a red flag right there that this person is lying about their identity. I have lots of helpful tips to help guys avoig being the victim of police entrapment. I will post them later this week.

one that comes to mind is a guy saying he wants to be my 13 year old daughters boy friend so i sent him a im saying hey i got my cell back call me !the dumb idiot called my cell from his work # so i called his boss and with in 20 mins he was fired from work !spying on our kids is a good thing they have no idea the sick people out thier!

Oh yeah. To the other people who doubt this show, saying that is doesnt do anything. Thats bologna. For everyone of those predators that said i knew this was a dateline show. Im sure there was double that amount who thought about the show and didnt continue on to procede with the decoy. And for obvious reason you wouldnt have a 12 year old in a room but her self with a 45 year old + guy. DUH!!!! no explanation needed. How can people be against this show??? I think this show is awesome! So what if half of it is about viewing points.. The Real point is.. these guys get caught, get humiliated (thank gosh), and [hopefully] learn a lesson! I'm glad these guys get arrested on national television.. their families should be aware of it and be more concerned about their children more than ever. Imagine if there weren't any stings like this.. Do you really think he'd walk away from his 2 hour drive to your house to meet your young daughter? No. He'd do it again if he was already given the first time.. leaving the young victim with mental abuse and the fear of being attacked again. So why would anyone be against these stings?? This is about spreading the word to your children and to other concerned parents and families!
Chris, you're doing a great job getting these guys nervous and sweatin to their knees! It's sad.. although hilarious at the same time because you think.. I can't believe this guy has kids of his own!

Just want to tell you I think your show is great! What I want to know is what in the world is wrong with theses people who disagree with it.. They must be just as sick as these grown men who are behaving this way.. Its not “their right” these are children that we are talking about! And for those people to say that “there has been no crime committed” Is BS! Its called intent! So what if it was a real 13 year old girl who’s parents weren’t home.. What no one is looking at is that this behavior is completely NORMAL... throughout history, men have sought out young women - a woman was considered a woman at 13 for thousands of years, until very recently. Men took "girls" as wives in the Bible, for all you bible bangers out there... the fact is, girls start becoming sexually capable - and sexually attractive, around 13-14 years of age. I'm not saying that I think men should be going around having sex with random 14-year old girls, and I do think young women are not necessarily mature enough to deal with sexuality - and I am glad our society is sophisticated enough that we don't condemn 13-year old girls to a life of laying back for old men and squeezing out babies with no choice in the matter. But the idea that all of these guys are just sick, twisted, abnormal perverts obscures the real issues and dehumanizes people. These guys are for the most part, *normal* males who would jump at the chance to have sex with a young, fertile woman. They DO need to learn to deal with their desires in a constructive manner that is appropriate for society and not harmful to others. These shows seem to be just gleefully creating an "other" to be a scapegoat for societies' problems. Many 14-15 year old girls seek out older men for sexual attention, because it is their biological imperative to do so. We should be interested in teaching them appropriate sexuality, and why it is important to delay sexual gratification until they have developed maturity. These men are not monsters, but they seem unable to control their desires and deal with them appropriately.

I would just like to add that there are also predators in places most people including parents, might not think to mistrust- and they are the worst danger t our young people. People in churches, who are usually always very good at talking to, and encouraging young people- while at the same time preparing the most vulnerable ones for the attack that will come, sooner or later. They usually single out the one who has family problems, and feels alone. their showing interest in listening is just this pedophile's way of preparing the child to trust them enough to make their move. It often could be a trip to the store, or even a gropu camping trip- something like that, after they are sure that the parents are not onto their "Game". I say trust no one, be vigilant- and remember the attacker could be someone who has worked his way into your trust, and the child's. Be it someone at Church, a relative, or a neighbor. Beware. I was molested in a hospital, while in a coma- and raped violently. How did I know if I had been raped, when I was in a coma? We have become a permissive society without providing the necessary tools to be successful. I watched several of the “To Catch A Predator” investigations in a row one night. I have never been able to watch them in prime time. I will get straight to the point. Chris Hanson, please, do not feel sorry for these perverts. During one of the segments, Mr. Hanson stated he felt somewhat sorry for these men. Do not waste one second of sorrow for these men. These men feel no sorrow for their victims, I assure you. Their horrific acts are meant to please and pleasure but one person, themselves. How these acts effect their victims never registers in their sick minds. He/she liked it, asked for it, needed it...whatever their sick, perverted minds need to say to make it alright for them to commit these sex acts. I am somewhat of an expert in this area. I was sexually molested from the age of 11 years to 17. This was many years before the internet, but it was not different, just ask me. The "grooming" was probably even sicker and more perverse then because the victim pool was smaller and a greater "investment" was needed by the perpetrator to get and keep his victim under control to fulfill his sick pleasures. He could not just jump to the next "chat" to pick his next victim. But for that brief moment, I was very impressed with Mr. Hanson's interview abilities. Pooling the resources of Dateline, the Perverted Justice, and local law enforcement is brilliant. A stop in every city at least once would not hurt. Keep up the good work!

If it has been mentioned already in this blog forgive me...It takes two to tango the old saying goes. It is not that there is an epidemic of "predators" out there. It is the combination of these two trends and technologies:
(1) The breakdown of the family unit in America. Both parents away, leaving children in the home alone to do what they want.
(2) The internet in general and specifically the introduction of sites like MySpace, Youtube, etc, etc..along with high speed connections to permit sending private photos and video from one's home.

This situation is unprecendented in history. Never in history has there been a situation where there could be a collection of people of all ages congregating together and allowed to say whatever they want to each other with any consequence AND have at their disposal ANY sort of vile and pornographic material at their disposal to send. Imagine having a retail store on the corner of your local town with every type of pornagraphy,fetish and violent material for sale and open to the general public ...all ages. Now imagine big signs plastered right in the front window for everyone to see as they walk by..." teens having sex", " anal explorations" , "Sex toy pleasures". Do you parents realize that with a computer, a camera and a high speed connection your 15 year old daughter can become a "porn star" from her bedroom? These individuals (the predators) are appalling piles of human filth to be sure, but what about looking at the other side of the story? Why not go into any "Mature" chat room ....on AOL, Yahoo, MySpace, etc..and wait for a 14 year old girl to come into the room. It will happen frequently. Then wait for her to turn the conversation to sex, again, it happens frequently. Get HER name and address and confront HER AND HER PARENTS. Ask her why she does it and how she is allowed to do it.
I liken the current internet and its associated collection of various web sites to leaving a bomb with a hair trigger on the street for someone to come along and trip. Until they completely revamp the internet (something that is being considered at this time) it is on the backs of parents to police what there children are doing on their computer in the privacy of their home. Maybe if you did a story on the victims of this type of behavior you might help parents to identify whether or not they have children who could be in a position (mentally, physically or whatever) of vulnerabilty to this behavior.

From all indication, Chris Hansen and the MSNBC staff are not intimidated by the name-calling of some of the respondents. What they are doing is a good thing. Those men show up at those houses, on the beach, at the park and any other place that they feel will afford them the opportunity to molest someone's child. One would think that from some of the criticism they are receiving that they should be more considerate of these men's families and friends than the predators are. Some viewers are screaming entrapment. Based on what? Interestingly enough, not one individual who has been caught up in the stings has been heard on TV using that excuse. The idea of using the excuse of entrapment for any of these would-be molesters is nullified when their own actions lead them to the point of being arrested. Entrapment by definition is: to lure into danger, difficulty, or a compromising situation. To lure into performing a previously or otherwise uncontemplated illegal act. When grown men are sending pictures of their private parts and giving details of what they will do/would like to do to what they believe to be children, it is they who are trying to lure what they believe to be an underage child into a very dangerous situation. Case in point: the rabbi) Quite clearly their actions show that time has been spent, and is being spent contemplating the illegal act of sex with an underage child. This notion of entrapment is without foundation. There is no entrapment. It was pointed out that predators are in the parks, etc., waiting for the opportunity to molest children. It's true, but through the work of Chris Hansen and MSNBC, it is being shown that they are all over the place. So catch'em where you can! Because some of the less offensive dialogue is read on the air, what Chris does has been termed disgusting. What this program is doing is not disgusting. What is disgusting is that anyone would try, in any way, to defend the behavior of these predators, who when caught, have no problem with claiming not to have done anything. (Case in point: the cancer research doctor). Which leads me to another thought. Perhaps some of these men's families aren't all in the dark when it comes to their behavior. When he called his wife, he said, "Honey, I'm in trouble". Nothing in his conversation indicated that she asked, "What kind of trouble?". Whatever her response, he told her not to bring the kids. Of course it's a bad situation for any family member, but it's the predators' fault, not Chris Hansen's. The time has long past when we should have rid ourselves of the "shoot the messenger" mentality. How anyone can try to blame someone else for the actions of the man who chose to kill himself is out of the range of my comprehen- sion. Any man or woman who targets a child for sex is a coward. It was he who made the choice to take his life rather than face public reaction and his possible punishment.

As A mother of an 11 year old girl I cannot thank you and NBC enough. In my opinion your show is the most imformative educational program that every parent needs to watch. There are not enough police officers in the entire country to keep up with the obvious increase in child predators on the Internet. Perverted Justice is a valuable resource. I would like to thank chris henson personally ecause of his tinacity and morals to this commitment to catch predetors. after watching his shows i learned enough about the laws in california that I finally reported the 33 year old women that was molesting my son. I learned that myspace is the place that they were leaving suggestive message and got ahold of the center for missing and explotied children and sitting in my house in washington state I got justice for him. I would never been able to do this withou the help of you show chris thank you. you don't know how bad i wish you could come to douglas county and okanogan county washington. I absolutely cannot believe you who believe that this show is a bunch of crap! How can you care about these twisted people?! Are you one of them? Chris Hansen and NBC are not out to ruin the lives of these perverts; the perverts do it to themselves! I don't care if men are always horny, they all need to learn self control. Chris Hansen specifically says that it was THEIR choice to start conversations with these "young kids." I hope these guys go to hell for their atrocities. Our world is so full of evil, in countless ways. You who think that this show is bad, do you also think prostitution is okay? Because THOUSANDS of women are being SOLD to pimps who often rape them, then sell them to numerous men EVERY day. They are rarely given any money, often locked up, and contract various STDs. AND it happens in the US! This is not removed from our "lovely little country." I hope you understand one day why it is so vital to "Catch a Predator" before our children are actually preyed upon. And I hope that instead of watching your lovely little sexually charged TV shows, such as "Dirty Sexy Money" or "Grey's Anatomy," you think twice about the values of our culture. I received an email from a person claiming to be an attorney from Malaysia who had a client that died in an airplane crash and now determined that I'm their next of kin and is trying to get the money to me. I would like to forward the email onto Chris Hanson for him to look at and see if I am right about it being a scam trying to rip me off and also see if he and Dateline can do a story about predators like this.

Definately, keep the show going. It is obvious, despite the risk of being exposed on Dateline, America's Most Wanted or Cops they still keep coming.
It's not entrapment because the intent is, really, there.
Chris Hansen, definately, has better tact than John Walsh because he knows how to ask the right questions. On the other hand, AMW does something similar. The difference is that the arrest is made inside the house without any questions asked to the suspect, whatsoever.
Everybody knows Walsh takes it too much on a personal level. I was a minor in Hollywood, FL when his son was victimized in 1981.
Although Dateline isn't "stand alone", their piece has the best illustration of the real issue.
Many messages, before mine, accuse Dateline of entrapment. It takes evidence and probable cause to make an arrest. People, how much more clear do these suspects' intentions need to be? They request sex, online, from somebody, obviously, not, legally, old enough to make such a decision and, literally, go to the home where a minor said they would be home alone. Do you, really, believe these people don't know what they're doing is wrong?
It's one thing to think about what would happen inside the house if a minor is, really, alone, there, but those, of you, who've seen other episodes, can understand, how dangerous, some of these predators, can be.
I, do, credit all of these shows for saving lives of children and teens because none of these shows existed when six year old Adam Walsh disappeared in 1981. It's not, just, the sex crimes, All crimes, including serial killers.
All these shows have good purpose, but, Dateline illustrates the point, the best.

In 1981 we didn't have the laws or the technology to protect the youth of our country, as, we do, today. Many of you are too young to know about the Adam Walsh case, still unsolved, in Hollywood, Florida. A missing child was considered a local issue and not considered a priority.
Even, though, Dateline, best, illustrates the point, I, still, credit John Walsh for, all he has done, to make this country safer for our children. In his show, "America's Most Wanted", his, personal, anger, still shows, after all these years.
I would like to see Walsh and Hansen do a show, together. Not only would it strengthen the point, even further, but it may, even, increase the number of possible predators getting second thoughts before becoming criminally involved or getting help before appearing in a live sting, or worse, creating more victims.
It's not, just, the sex crimes we're trying to protect our kids from.

In the Texas investigation the neighbors resented the show being done in their area because they didn't want any potential predators in their neighborhoods. What would be better, to be invited in by a, real, child, home alone?
Most of the people who appear, on the show, are professionals with good careers, people, we would think, would know better, people, we would think, could be trusted with children, such as teachers and/or married men with children who wouldn't want the same for their own children, but, some people, who appeared, had, very dangerous, criminal pasts.
I wouldn't mind if my neighborhood was used to bust these creeps. I would, rather that, than a child, in my neighborhood, becoming a victim.
Another thing the suspects aren't thinking about is that if a teen, really, is home alone, neighbors and, other, relatives are, usually, watching the house, very, carefully.

this may be a little off topic for this thread, and a little insensitive, i'll apologize in advance. tonight i saw the blurp on tv about the assistant district attorney that killed himself after being arrested, and the fact that his family is trying to say that dateline caused his death. i think someone should sit down with that woman and explain to her that her brother committed suicide because he was weak and knew that what he was doing was wrong on many different levels. not to mention all the people that he helped lock up that he would have to be around in prison. i think his sister should just accept the fact that her brother had a problem, and not try to go after dateline simply because she feels shame about her late brother's actions. ridiculous.

I was a bit annoyed at the 20/20 news story. First off hurrray for someone finally standing up for the kids!!! second, for all thoose in Murry, Texas they got out on a loop hole, please!!!! I think this series is such a great way to truly "catch a predator". I am one that was molested at the age of 11, and then I had a friend who was abused at 13 after chatting online with a supposed 16 year old. It turns out the man was much older, and my dear friend has had to go through counseling b/c of what happened. Humiliation...well, that's the least they deserve. Sure, this may be the first time for some of them, but I doubt it. There aren't enough officers available to do ALL of the work themselves, so I think it is great that they can team up with another great organization to get the job done and get these scumbags off of our streets. Before I start I would like to say that I think child malestation is the worst thing on this plannet. It makes me sick to think how men and women take advantage of young children.
I am Alex, I'm 16 and I live in England. From what I see, people in America are a lot more worried about peodophillia, than we are in England. In America for instance, I am still counted as a minor, under the child protection act. however, in England, I am seen as mature enough to have sex, get married and bring up a family. I would just like to draw your attention to the way that views change in different societys, and how what you would se as sick, we would see as perfectly normal. My girlfirend is 13, and although she is 3 years younger than me, at only 13, my relationship with her is seen as natural.
My last point is the way child sex offenders are treated in America. If you take the time to read any scientific articles on peodofillia, you will realise that they do not make the conciouse choice to harm children. They have no choice in what they feel. It is just like being homosexual,it is just another form of sexual deviancy. Gay men/women do not make the choice whether or not they will be gay. It is unfortunatley the same way with peodofiles. They do not choose to be what they are. 99% of peodofiles are disgusted with who they are and what they feel. they hate themselves and many kill themsleves, for fear of what they might do, and the consequenses both for the child and themselves.
I think a better aproach to punnishing child sex ofenders in America, would be like the one adopted here in England, and in Canada. Over here, we are begining to use scientific methods which make peodofiles re-direct their confused sexual urges, so that they become honest, decent, trustworthy members of society. Rather than barbaricly castrating them, or locking them up, waiting for them to be released so that they can offend again.
In my eyes, this is what a tollerant society, such as the one America boasts about, would do. It also makes a lot more sense, as there is no chance of them offending again, it stops completely unnessecery suicides, and it is amuch less barabric way of treating someone, who has no choice in what they feel.
I think that what you are doing is good, catching these people before they offend, but I think that a different punishment, and a higher level of understanding of the scientific condition from which they suffer are in order. rather than just pointlesley humiliating them.

Tell our story, how the DA brought in Sexual predators into our town, and afterward did not have the respect or decency to talk to the residents, she did however speak with the press! There are many victims when these type of stings are conducted!

The police chief and officers, and Perverted Justice stood against one of the greatest evils of our time: the sexual violation of children. Watch your show every chance, even reruns, so when I saw 20/20 was doing something on it, I happily sat down to watch. I was shocked and dismayed at their segment! I sent them an e-mail saying I would never watch 20/20 again! You probably shouldn't have gone to Texas; maybe there they think preying on youngsters is OK. Keep up the good work, Chris. To Catch a thief is one of the most disturbing shows on television today. Chris Hansen is not a journalist, he is a police decoy, a voyeuristic enabler, and the hangman. That he persists in calling himself a journalist means he is a liar. I am absolutely in favor of this type of decoy technique. Police do this all the time, but I oppose its televising. It it sordid and titilating, and it allows the viewer to feel superior to those who are caught, and yet we can enjoy vicariously the salacious come on and their stupidity, and their illness. The people that are caught are obviously sick individuals unable to control their sexually taboo desires. Many of them are familiar with the show and fear being on it, yet they can't stop themselves. That tells me that they are mentally ill, yet Mr. Hansen plays the higher than thou father to these imperfect and ill beings. Mr. Hansen, have you not considered that someday the universe (and television) will bite you in the ass, and embarrass you before the world? I ask you now, end this terrible program. It is in the worst taste. In other words, it leaves a terrible taste in the mouth. It is mean, as in lowly. Again, these stings are not wrong in themselves, but this televised lynching is wrong, wrong, wrong Mr. Hansen.

Catching predators is a good thing... BUT
this is entrapment. Totally ridiculous. It's like trying to catch drivers who don't yield to pedestrians by waiting by a road until a car is 10 feet away then jumping into the street and getting hit. Wow... we "caught" a driver who doesn't yield and called the police to cite them for it.

I am extremely happy with the "To Catch a Predator" series. I was a victim of sexual assault at the age of 13, by a male adult. I think more should be done to keep men like this away from children. The psychological effects are horrendous. Thankfully, I was afforded the opportunity to attend therapy. Many of these children online are being preyed upon and taken advantage of. I can't wait for the next edition of the series. Thank you NBC and Chris Hansen!

As seen on the shows the predators, clearly, intend to have sex with somebody they expect to be a minor.
On the other hand, how can adults protect themselves when minors, falsely, identify themselves to be older than they, really, are.
A friend, of mine, was asked, by a neighbor, of his, to pick a girl up, for him, and give her a ride to the neighbor's house. While the neighbor stayed home to clean his house my friend went to pick the girl up.
It turned out to be a police investigation where the neighbor was told the girl was fifteen and my friend had no idea his neighbor sent him after a fifteen year old girl.
Fortunately, my friend was not arrested and the neighbor was.
In my own past I've had plenty of girls lie to me about their ages. I was, fortunate enough, that I didn't do anything with them and found out their real ages.
The same friend, I just mentioned, a long time ago, was with a girl and found out she was fifteen, after he was with her. He was nineteen, at the time.
He was fortunate, nothing, ever, happened regarding it. He told me if he would've known she was fifteen he wouldn't have been with her.
Meanwhile, almost three hundred guys appeared, in the target houses intending to have sex with a minor. The get, so, caught up, in their excuses about their inappropriate chats and sent images they are not, the least, prepared to justify their presence in a home where a minor was supposed to be there, alone. It, also, seems as if they forget why they're there when they see Chris Hansen.

Bu have you considered online predators and psychopaths who prey on other adults - ESPECIALLY WOMEN? The victims AND these online psychopaths are growing rapidly in number - quicker than the web itself. Sadly enough, I am part of this group myself.
And there seems to be no justice or recourse for adults. Adults who have been emotionally raped, financially and psychologically abused to the point of wanting to slash our wrists.

When will the law start to listen? When will law enforcement step in and track any of these criminals and psychopaths down? Many have crossed the "legal line" with fraud, deception, harassment, sexual abuse, violence, psychological abuse and brainwashing (ALL relative to my situation unfortunately).

How about you shed some light on this. There is an IMMENSE internet community out there which IS NOT armed for THESE psychopaths - many (if not MOST) are women. Many of them, the women and psychopaths alike are on popular dating and chat sites all over the world: caramail.com; amour.fr, match.com; msn; yahoo personals, lavalife, etc...

It's time to give US a fighting chance and "arm" others with the information about these psychopaths - whose only intent is to spread gratuitous hate, hurt and destroy others emotionally and financially. They are criminals in most cases - fraud is criminal and so is harassment - our basic human rights have been violated and we are unable to seek justice anywhere. I wonder where we're living sometimes.

I want to thank Chris Hansen and Dateline for "To Catch a Predator". My older brother and his friends physically and sexually abused me from age 11 to 20. When I revealed the abuse in my early 40s it was not denied but I was told it was in the past, to get over it, and my brother was a born again Christian so it didn't matter. I never got to hear "you're under arrest" or have anyone in my family consider my feelings or take my side. I had to leave my family and begin a new life to save mine. It saddens me to see so many knowingly want to exploit underage women but understand the reality -- that they have been taught since they were young that this was desirable and okay. My hope is that this show will influence at least a certain percentage of men to take responsibility for their sexuality and know that what they have been taught is not always okay.

The state of CA budget cuts included freezing funding for all penal code 290 RSO's (registered sex offender) housing. I currently help run a larger apartment complex that houses over 30 RSO's. All of them have ankle bracelets and are highly monitored by the parole office. As of October 1, 2007 they will all become transient as the state freezes funds. This goes for all programs like this throughout CA. pahwaysmanagement.org is the company website. Anyways I am letting this information go public because as of October 1, the state is pushing all RSO's recently released underground, they will all be transient. I have several interviews taped with some of these offenders and ask them where will they go when the state stops funding there housing and how will they charge their ankle bracelets. If and when the public finds out what is happening there will be a huge uproar. So much for Megans law when all recent offenders will be labeled transient...and I mean ALL offenders throughout the state of CA.

However, I was hoping that the submission might cause enough interest that Perverted Justice might be inclined to share the information I sent with Dateline
so that it might investigate the ring of preditors I described.

An internet chat that led to an abduction of a young girl, forced into a gang assault should be worthy of your attention and resources.

This crime took place in Hopkins MN. The statute of limitations still applies, making the crime and its participants still responsible under the law.

I hope you continue to do the work you are doing with as much success. But its apparent this one slipped thru the cracks.

This is 100% entrapment, and I think everyone who participates should go to jail for ruining all of these mens' lives. Don't get me wrong, I do think pedofiles are disgusting, and I found most of these men utterly repulsive. However...first of all, there was never an underage girl. Therefore, there was no victim. The entire crime that they were arrested for was fictitious.There was never proof that they were going to follow through with any sexual acts, unless someone read their minds. Did I just read in a few earlier posts about someone commiting suicide over this?! If nothing else, it's unbelievably terrible how they broadcast this to the entire country and then make it available to the entire planet. That would ruin someone's entire life in every social and psychological aspect and in no way should this be legal. Someone's life was physically ended over this. And that's an entertaining thing? That's justice? People shouldn't be arrested for a crime that wasn't commited. If I say I'm going to do drugs in the future should I be arrested for that? The girl that I just watched in the last scenari was actually 19 years old. Now...I want to ask two questions? If a man over 18 has sex with an underage girl, is that illegal? Yes. If a man has sex with a 19 year old girl that he thinks is 15, is that illegal? No. This was the scenario...that never even happened, but that they're being arrested for. You can't lock people up for the possibility of possibly taking part in a hypothetical crime. Well, then again, I guess you can.

However, the more of it I've seen, I've come to form the opinion that it is nothing more than entrapment. Sexual abuse against anyone is inexuseable, but this system just doesn't feel right. No, most of these men do not believe they'll be caught, and the predatory instinct that motivates them will override their fear of getting caught, which is probably why they are willing to take the risk, and the behavior, (like driving 6 hours to visit an underage girl,) seems to me like that of a drug addict.

I understand people's concerns that the way this show is conducted might be, in their view, considered entrapment. However, the real problem here is the behavior of the men who have illicit chat sessions online with someone that they believe is a minor, know it's illegal, and show up at someone's home expecting to have sex with an underage child anyway. The crime occurs the moment the guy shows up at the house, which shows intent. I know some of the men immediately express regret, and I even sympathize with how badly their lives are going to be messed up after being arrested, but you have to ask yourself the question, "What would have happened had Dateline not been there?" I suspect most of these guys that show up at the house aren't doing this for the first time.

I think what this show has done is expose a problem that's been around for a very long time, predatory pedophilic behavior. A problem which has become more prevalent in recent years in due to the instant access and anonymity provided by the internet. What I hope this show does is make every predator think twice before leaving the house for fear of having being greeted in the kitchen by Chris Hansen.

Cathy, I am 24 years old and would never be tempted by a 14 year old no matter how enticing you may think she is. These men were all caught doing something sick, perverted and illegal. No too long ago a junior high school teacher, William Warren Greico ( google his name ) here was arrested, convicted and sent to prison for 5 years. Recently he has posted a classified ad at inmates.com claiming that he is a victim of the federal goverment...Mr Greico fails to mention that it was his choice to stalk a 14 year old girl at myspace, chatting with her for 4 months and then set up a meeting with her for oral sex. Also realize this man was at the same time teaching 13, 14 year old girls at a public school! What if that had been your 14 year old daughter Cathy? Now instead of seeking treatment to face the fact that he is a pedophile he is pretending to be innocent and blaming the federal goverment for his " mistake ".

Elizabeth from West Virginia, I respectfully disagree with some of your assertions, even though you probably have more experience than me since your work is parole officer. You say that this is a compulsion but then claim that it can only be stopped with harsher punishments. But that conflicts with the compulsive nature of the perpetrators. Getting busted, even on national TV is a very real possibility and quite a devastating one, but they still take their chances. Even if castration in public with a rusty spoon were the sentence, they'd take their chances, mainly because the compulsion is so strong.

Also, I don't think that the person who talked to his lawyer admitted to doing so because he wanted to make sure what he was going to do was legal. From seeing some of the other shows, both on the tube and on the website, I think these are just various "strategies" concocted in the event they get busted. I think this man was hoping to fall behind the defense that he didn't do anything because all he did was show up and, according to his lawyer, showing up isn't illegal. Well, showing up probably wouldn't be illegal if there was no intent. But there was intent. Too bad for him.

There was another character who insisted that he couldn't add an alleged underage teen to his friend's list unless he or she changed the age to over 21. His hope here is that once the profile of the decoy is changed, he can point to it and defend himself. That didn't work either.

Another foolish person thought he could beat the system by creating a phantom friend. That didn't work either. But it's a continuing cat and mouse game where the perpetrators will try to beat the system, while the system looks to continue to improve to catch as many bad guys as possible.

I dont think they care if they get caught because they are caught up in the thrill of it. These people are sick and need to be exsposed to the world. The sad thing is that they are everywhere and they are just as normal looking as the next person. I resent these people because I know what its like to have your innocence stolen from you at the hands of someone. They have no thought of the impact this could have on the childs life. I have had the unfortunate advantage of finding out just this morning that my children have been abused sexually by there natural father, and was bragging about it in a chat room in which he thought he was talking to a "father" and it being an undercover detective. Hi, I'm a freshman in college and I just recently had an incident on facebook as well as aim, with the same person. She claimed to be a model looking to recruit someone, however, things got unusual and creepy, ending with a threat (harmless, yet still a threat). I knew that something wasn't right. Is there any way for me to report her/him to someone for investigation? I would report her/him to the local police but he/she claims to live in Virginia which is nowhere near where I live. I don't know what to do?

Before I begin what I am going to say, let me state for the record, that at age 55, I have never even been to a topless club, much less even think about doing what these predators are accused of. Most of my adult life has been spent in the area of civil rights, civil liberties and direct involvement with groups dealing with abused women and children in the community. However, having once been an intern with Jack Anderson and Les Whitten and having more friends in high level of the press than I can send Christmas cars to, I find what Chris Hansen is doing to be very wrong. I have zero love loss for these predators and would hope they are taken off the streets. However there are different roles that groups in our governmental fabric take on and it is so prescribed in direct language, both from the Constitution and ongoing decisions, as well as the Federalist Papers.

The Press is in the role of the fourth estate or more simply put as a semi-ad-hoc branch of government. It is one of our, as the people's overseers of Government. And despite the Bush administration, the role of the Constitution is to protect citizens from government not protect government from the citizens and our representative the Press. The Press is designed to be a watchdog, not engaged in collusion with different branches of government- in this case one of the executive o branch of any local entity (the police) and then the judicial branch (the courts)

One can talk all they want, but acceptance of the "ends justifies the means" corrupts us as a nation of laws. I am sure Chris is a wonderful man (despite his Republican affiliations and steadfast support of Bush, Cheney, invasion of our privacy by warrantless activities, complete collection of data on any American and his belief in denial of due process- not to mention a few mixed with his support for the Iraq war) But Chris, for a member of the fourth estate to act as a front for law enforcement is a crossing of the lines and while you may get great ratings and catch some bad guys, this is not the role of the press as envisioned by our founding fathers. Perverted Justice does a great job, but they are not a member of the press. I urge you that if you really believe this is a cause, quit the press and create another organization or officially join law enforcement or Perverted Justice and not bastardize the fourth estate that has meant so much to the development of this country and others and never worry about ratings.

I am almost afraid to leave my real name for fear that Hansen, Bush and group will target me.

I really like the show and I'm glad that someone brings it to light for everyday people. Just last week I was a victim of idenity theft. After seeing the show I had a clear understanding of what I should do. A criminal had somehow gained access to my paypal account and charged over 3000.00 using an ebay account. The criminal bought a television, a camera, xbox 360 and a computer using my paypal account. All items where set up to be shipped to a resident in North Carolina. I'm grateful that paypal has a return policy for any fraudlent charges. In one day I was able to get the money back into my checking account and eliminate all the fees for overdraft. Thank for doing the show, I'd like to see more of these dealing with ID thieves. Just wish we could have them arrested like the predators.

It is good to know that there are people out there that can and are doing something about this growing problem. This show is starting to get a bit old. I understand that there are guys out there trying to meet underage girls online but it is funny how every episode the so called decoys seem to get older and older. When you started the show the decoys claimed to be 11, 12, or 13 and now they claim to be up to the age of 15 years old. That is a legal age of consent in a at least a few states and is very close to age of consent in some other states. It also worries me that Perverted Justice is paid by NBC and are making excessive ammounts of money knowing that if they fail to keep the predators coming then your show will be cancelled and their money flow will come to an end. Some of these guys are real sick freaks don't get me wrong but when you keep raising the age of the decoy's and having them present themselves as more and more sexual the less credible your show will be.

Your show is very entertaining and educational. Anything to help our local law enforcment agencies to make more arrests of this nature is beneficial for all of us. With out the video, chat logs etc.., these cases would never get to first base in our justice system. All to often, people are victimised first before a complaint can be filed - and with out strong evidence cases fall a part and these criminals get to plea it down to some minor unrelated type of charge! These cases are strong and these predators should be prosequted to the max. I do not think anyone of your predators went their on purpose to get caught! They went way out of their way to try to rape a child and they deserve to get caught, be on T.V and be humiliated. Befor people critise your show they must remember the intent of these predators is to RAPE a CHILD. It is so much fun to watch! Please do more. The case of the RABI and the Prosecuter were my favorite-disturbing but oh so entertaining. Good job! Do not stop doing what your doing, the more of these predators you catch the safer we can all feel. Go get them Chris!

p.s. I wish you would (if you have not already) do follow up episodes on your cases! It would be interesting to know of the dispositon of all these cases! Did they do time-exactly how were they punished? It might help future predators to think twice- but i doubt it.

I am watching your show as I study for my Criminal Justice class and I have to say that I find the show very enjoyable.

Although I don't know any victims of the crimes which you are helping stop, it gives me great pleasure to know that there are people and organizations that are fighting for our youth.

a)a SPECIFIC inquiry by the predator in the chat log about the girl's age..(such as..."are you really 13??"). A question like this seems to indicate a desire to confirm an underage status.

b) willingly sending graphic photos once the predator believes that the girl is underage

First of all, thank you for your work to reveal an unbelievable reality in our society. As a parent, it is almost overwhelming to see these things going on. However, as a parent, concerning the episode where the man brought the child to the house you set up, and even though you cannot help what people do, but if you wanted to really protect the child, then maybe blotting out the man as well as the child would have been better. Why? Someone from there who probably saw the show, would have seen this man, recognized him, and then as humans do, talk, and then the child's friend and peer from school would overhear the conversation regarding their friend or peer, and then make fun or worse abuse them as children do each and every day. I think that you could have been even more protective. Whether or not you place this on your website, I wanted to speak out in protection to this child, and their family! It is sad that this man did what he did, but in reality, what would he have done? The child was there, and maybe, just maybe he might would have done something stupid. However, we must be MORE protective, even when men like this father will not do their responsibility. This is sad. Now, the family will suffer, and maybe MSNBC DATELINE helped to influence their pain! Not placing blame, just making observation.

NO. it is not good that they air this on television, because by them airing it on TV it could be helping them teaching them what not to do.
that maybe they can learn from other guys mistakes and do it differently to not get caught.

The internet was just getting bigger when I was growing up and I chatted with a bunch of these disgusting men who would constantly im me and send me pictures and I would tell them that I was only 13!!!!!!!!! If this show protects just one child or discourages just one pervert from doing things to a child then it has definetly done its job. What I want to know is what happens to them? I am a Mother of a 14 year old that was not so lucky. Her predator came in the middle of the night and took her across 2 state lines and had continual unprotected sex with her. After 23 hours I found her and bought her home. Our life has not been the same since. She is in rehab trying to get her life back on track. I was uneducated with online chat and was not aware anything was going on. As a parent I will always hold the guilt of not checking on what my teenage child was doing and who she was communicating with. This show gives me comfort that something is being done with these criminals. And by the way her predator is serving time and will always be listed as a sex offender.

I applaud the effort of Dateline in regards to what they are doing.But....it should never have to come to something like this. My main concern is how so many parents can turn a blind eye to what their kids are doing online. I have 4 kids(3 of them teens) and we constantly monitor and especially educate them on the dangers out there online. There will always be predators out there. But if more parents would pay attention to what their kids are doing rather than focusing on so many more unimportant things in life, the predators would have no one to find!

I know the laws must be different in different states, but maybe the bottom of the offenders offense to the top and what crosses over to the predator. I think everything CHRIS HANSEN does on the series is amazing...I don't think these men have any right to argue they are doing something terrible...I believe these men should be punished and treated to help them with their desires. CHRIS HANSEN is somewhat of a role model for me, we both went to Michigan State University and both graduated with a Telecommunications degree from that highly credited institution. I viewed your program on predators and young children. I am an educator in a private institution in Connecticut. It is beyond comprehension what is happening in our society. I believe this has been occuring for many many years. As much as your coveraged focused on the methods and techniques used by predators I feel there is an angle which is of equal importance. Never was it mentioned the psychological aspect ofthe predator's lives. I am NOT in any way exempting them from their behavior but rather feel that they have a very deep rooted mental instability which stems from a past experience . I am not a psychologist but have certainly read a lot on the subject and would love to have known how many of the 25 or so men you caught in your sting were molested sexally at a young age by their parents, uncle, neighbor etc. This type of behavior
continues from one generation to another often without any psychological help. Are they criminals? Yes they are because they have harmed innocent children. But are they criminals as a direct result of sexual abuse themselves. They by all means need to be taken from society but is jail the answe? I have to think of the little boy on your program who escorted his father to one of the stings. If the meeting occured the child would have observed proverted sexual activity and maybe would have been a participant.Would this child who didn't ask to be exposed to this horror become a deeply damaged adult or a ruthless criminal. I just thought this would have been another slant to your story.Making parents more aware of the dangers of predators is beneficial but maybe society needs to re-evaluate how we can help people who have been sexually abused get the help they need sooner so they will NOT grow up to be adult predators.

You are part of the NBC TV show Dateline. You are involved with the segment on that show called “To Catch a Predator. NBC airs the “To Catch a Predator” segment on this show to attract viewers, viewers attract sponsors and sponsors keep NBC in business and money in your pocket. NBC and you are making money off of these predators and their sickness. Let’s be very clear here, NBC and you are making money off of this segment or NBC would not be showing this segment so often.
NBC and you are part of the team that gets theses predators off the street and hopefully scares future predators, at the same time making money for NBC and you. In my opinion based on what I know, money is the prime motivating factor for you and NBC. You can deny this but in your heart of hearts you know it is the money. If money was not the motivating factor then NBC would not be airing other shows with sexually explicit content. Sex sells. You sell it on the “To Catch a Predator” segment and you sell it on many of the other shows on NBC.
If you and NBC truly wanted to help the children of the United States and for that matter the sexual predators that prey on them, all of the shows on NBC would consist of content displaying people leading lives where sex occurs only in committed, loving, caring, adult relationships. In these same programs the story lines could be about people that love and care about their fellow man and perform acts on a daily basis based on this mindset. .
You can disagree if you like but NBC helps breed these predators to some degree with their sexually explicit TV shows and commercials. Quite frankly, I find what you and NBC do to be sicker then what these predators are doing and you and NBC are much more harmful to society and children then these predators will ever be. You and NBC have the ability to brainwash people, numb their minds with constant bombardment of sexually explicit shows and commercials that cheapen the act of sex. You cheapen the act of sex rather than promote it as an act of two adults that are in a loving relationship.
I am sure you know that these predators once arrested and convicted are not allowed to view pornography of any type. Most therapists would also recommend limiting the viewing of any media outlets. You see Mr. Hansen you and NBC are part of the problem, you have just figured out a way to convince yourself that you are part of the solution, convinced yourself so you and NBC can take home a buck at the end of the day.
I feel a need to forgive you but what about all of those children out there that get bombarded with the crap you and NBC feed them every day, all hours of the day on TV and now on the internet. You and NBC are a much greater problem than these predators you proudly condemn on Dateline.
Personally, it is my desire to have all of my thoughts and actions come from a loving caring place. Personally, I believe we are all one people and should do our best to care for and love each other.

I think this show is doing it's job.....BUT, I don't think predators will ever completely disappear. Their 'urge' to offend is just to strong....case in point--these guys show up EVEN when they suspect it's a set up, because the potential 'pay out' is worth it to them. One poster said "what red blooded male wouldn't want to hook up with a hot 14 year old?" Ummmmm a NORMAL one. WHAT man is going to find a child appealing?? That post almost sounds as if it was coming from a potential offender itself. I personally think ALL child molesters/predators should be castorated or put on an island so they can molest each other......because in my opinion, these guys NEVER get better. NEVER.

although i do believe the world has a serious problem with regards to child predators, i dont see where a television show feels its morally obligated to take charge of the 'situation' head on. there is no pussy footing around what you (dateline) and perverted justice are participating in by law is referred to as entrapment. even though your decoys are posing on-line as minors, that is a complete and fabricated misrepresentation of themselves. you may be able to help prosecuters with regards to bringing attention to certain individuals within their jurisdiction, but solicitation of a minor does not include solication of someone misrepresenting themselves. and since there is no act of penetration involved, i find it absurd and ludacris that dateline feels the need to air shows that will ruin lives and families of people who have, and in these cases can not be properly brought to trial and convicted.

on an off note, with regards to child pornography. i question whether a photo of a naked child should be considered pornography or art. if there is none other than 1 individual contained within that photo, can can it be considered anything more than it is?

this country has become so self involved with making sure everyone of every race and every gender from the black to the white, fat to the thin, beautiful to the ugly feelings dont get hurt that we always have to bite our tongues before we say anything. lifes to short to care.

I think your show is a cheap way of filling a time slot with dumb people. You may catch some of these creeps, but I doubt if it provides any long term value to society. I does allow some people who like to view others who are about as dumb as your viewers. It least it allows for msnbc to provide low cost programing. Being caught by Dateline could be considered a "good" thing from a potential predator's point of view, considering, how much worse it could be.
Other types of traps exist, other than law enforcement or media. Any group or gang could become "independent vigilantes", pretend to be a horny 13 year old, bait a "would be" to a predertimined location, beat the living crap out of them, rob them, blackmail and/or extort them.
The "would be" becomes a "double jeopardy" victim because he set out with criminal intent, himself, and becomes vulnerable to anything any of these thugs could want because he wouldn't want the law, his wife, kids, employer or anybody to know he attempted to meet a child to molest them.
Child molesters are unpopular and vulnerable in any society, especially in prison systems.
So, it makes, even less, sense that 317 people have, as of date, appeared at a Dateline house with the intention of molesting a minor, and that's, just, Dateline. That count does not include America's Most Wanted, Cops or non televised stings.
Two ways to try to reduce the frequency of internet solicitation, have all internet providers post a warning screen on all chat rooms regarding federal and state laws, where they have to click an "OK box" as acknowledgement before being permitted into any chat rooms and if one man, John Walsh, can found the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Perverted Justice should be able to found a similar agency regarding internet crimes against minors.
Here's another suggestion, a security label, " This Home Protected by Video Security".
All three of these should add a lot of teflon to entrapment claims and defenses.
Since "To Catch a Predator" is, so well, known how can that be used as an entrapment defense?
In Murphy, Texas, the resentment toward Dateline makes Murphy seem like a "safe haven" for possible predators. Not only should Dateline keep the show going but they should, also, go back to cities they've, already, been to, in case anybody develops the idea, "Dateline's, already, been here".

Yes, it is true there are too many ways to tell the difference between decoys and actual teens online, but, why would any responsible adult care about that?
As far as teens, literally, being as irresponsible as the decoys claim to be. I have a teenage daughter. Not only does she discuss with me, in full detail, her sexual habits, she has given me, quite an education, what goes through the minds of teenage girls, nowadays.
As a Dad who loves her I wish she wouldn't prioritize sex as much as she does but I feel more confident, knowing, she can trust me with information like that.
If I were too strict with her she would, only, tell me what I want to hear and do what she wants to do. She knows I'd rather her, not, do what she's doing but she, also, knows I will give her the best advice, I can think of, how to protect herself from the worst, possible, consequences that can happen to her.
As far as TCAP goes the New Jersey episode shows that these people, just, arent getting the message.
I've read many criticims, Dateline and Chris Hansen are doing it for the spotlight and the ratings, I don't buy that. On the Predator Raw episodes Hansen said they try to investigate as much as they can before a predator shows up and with police, detectives and prosecutors reading chat log transcripts to make sure, enough, probable cause is there before an arrest can be made. It looks, to me, like they've done their homework. They have to have the proof laws have been violated before the predator gets there to have their case. What about the indecent photos these grown men sent to a girl they were convinced were fifteen or younger? Do we want our kids being sent crap like that, especially from grown men?
It should be the goal to reduce the number of people showing up at these houses. If dateline stops these investigations it will increase the number of adults who, really do, meet teens.
As far as feeling sorry for the adults caught by Dateline the adult made the decision to have an inappropriate conversation with a minor they don't, even, know and meet in a private setting where a minor said they would be unsupervised and isolated. I can understand if a second person is duped into going to the target house and, really, doesn't know what's going on.
there's more than one kind of rat to look out for, worse than walking into a Dateline investigation is walking into a crime in progress. Child molesters are hated so much that any group of thugs can capitalize on a, would be, predator's predicament, another thing potential predators need to think about, especially since since most of the would be's are white collar people, married, with families at home and, substantially too much to lose.

I was just in a Ya---site this morning.. just looking in the chat areas to see if this really goes on. This area is supposed to be 18 and older, but it allows the young ones to advertise the age and sex... even if they have pics to send anyone. They have been informed about this, but it continues on a daily basis... so I was told by some in the chat rooms. Some of the adults even take up for the underage chatters in the adult rooms. The language is foul, and very explicit.
They should not allow the young teens in these rooms, but it happens on alot of sites.

Thank you Chris for helping to keep the world safe for our children, i was unaware of this as a child, a friend of my fathers used to take me places and he would try to get me to kiss him on the cheek, at the time all I thought was yuck I dont want to kiss a boy and never did, recently my mother told me he was charged with lude act against a minor, I look back now and think about what could have happened. I was very lucky!
I now have a ten month old son and am very concerned about this problem, I watch your programs and am out raged by these people. If I can ever be of any assistance to your investigations please ket me know I would be very excited to participate in any aspect of your investigations.
When my son is old enough to comprehend this I will be letting him watch your programs, as I said earlier I was not educated about it and I just got lucky that nothing happened.

Here's another warning to the public. Teens can be, pretty, mean to each other. They can go online, bait a potential predator and send them to the home of a rival without any regard for the danger they place on the other teen.
Also, there are many teens, out there, willing to have sex with adults so they can blackmail them, afterward.
As typical of most of the guests, on the show, a, well to do, man goes to a strange house to do a thirteen year old girl. His Cadillac DTS is witnessed in front of the house. Maybe the girl had a hidden web cam in her closet and, later, demands a "hush fee" to keep the overwhelming evidence quiet. Let's say, this man is married with four children and, a good career. What would exposure mean to him? Prison, most likely. His marriage, his kids, his home and his career, and as a registered sex offender he won't be permitted to be alone with any child, including his own.
Now, what happens to the wife and kids if he's caught. She, probably, doesn't work so they will, probably, lose their, nice, secure home, their Cadillac Escalade ESV and god only knows what else.
So, if a group of teens want that "hush fee", possibly to support a drug habit, what is it worth to the predator to keep it quiet?
Again, there are countless possibilities what could go wrong for anybody, who thinks, they may meet an underage girl for sex.
Chris Hansen, please use my examples in future brodcasts of yours. I am hoping it will cut out on a lot of the crime in America, especially, where children are involved.

Based on previously aired brodcasts most of the predators are the kind of people nobody would expect to take part in this kind of activity. there's, also, the other end of the spectrum, people with, very dangerous, criminal pasts.
Here's an example of something I've seen on TV. I don't remember if it was on MSNBC or CourtTV, but it was a car in an impound yard in California, owner, obviously, incarcerated, The car was an older white two door hatchback, no make, model names or brand logos, 'could've been a Datsun 200SX, Isuzu Impulse, Mitsubishi Cordia or, even, a Renault Fuego. in another words a plain white wrapper, less popular, more forgotten vehicle model, and since there are so many characters on a standard California tag the average person wouldn't expect to remember the tag.
Inside is the real clincher. On the passenger side the manual window handle turns but the window doesn't go down. A linkage cable goes from the door, through the dash to the door pocket on the driver's side. This enables the driver to lock the passenger in tne car and the bucket seats were reversed, enabling the driver a closer reach to lay back the passenger seat.
None of the modifications appeared to be new, which tells me, whatever crimes this vehicle has been used for has been premeditated for a, very, long time.
Yet, still, there are too many young people, who would, after chatting with somebody, online, for a month, would, actually, get into a vehicle, possibly, rigged this way, totally unsuspecting.
With some of the, other, dangers, for the predators, I've mentioned, before, I'm surprised, potential predators don't think about this before they go to the target homes.
It has been mentioned, how to tell the difference between legitimate and a Perverted Justice setup, there's more. Since Perverted Justice works with police they have, specific, rules, they must follow.
A real teenager, home alone, from after school, until parents get home from work, or thugs, up to no good, don't have to follow any rules.
If you can spot the difference you, probably, won't appear on Dateline and be arrested, but, in the hands of hard criminals, your fate could be, much, worse.

I think Dateline should keep the show going until it, hopefully, no longer makes sense to do so. For example, if a large setup in a big city, highly, likely to attract the predators, only, yields seven, in four days, it will, hopefully, mean, people are, finally, getting the message.
I don't know why people make such a big deal about the negative aspects of the show. It's not like Dateline is the only predator show on TV. There are, many, others like it.

After watching some of these episodes I now realize the characters that show up at your locations are sick in so many different ways. Not only are they obsessed with having sex with young children, they also have serious ego problems and problems with their self images. For instance, the doctor that showed up and ran away before Chris could talk to him after seeing your camera crew. Does he actually believe a young teenage girl is out there just waiting to crawl into bed with some wrinkled up old s.o.b. like him? Or how about the old fart that knocked 40 years off his age, showed up wearing a black ball cap, black shorts and a black sleeveless shirt that only amplified his pale sagging skin, and could barely hear the male decoy. Did he actually think a teen boy was there anxiously waiting his arrival?
Half the men on that show have 60" waistlines and receding hairlines, and yet they still show up thinking some nubile young teen is right behind the door waiting to satisfy their every desire.
Hell, that's reason enough in itself to get these sickos off the street.

Many good questions have been asked. I think Florida had the most diversity among the men who showed up at the homes here. In Fort Myers a college graduate, with a good career, drove four hours, and ruined everything, he worked for, over a bad idea.
Another guy drove, at least, two hours, with an idea, so crazy, it's a wonder, he thought, anybody, in their right mind, would go for it. He, must have, believed it because he lived up to his end of the agreement.
Another question comes to mind. The guys in their 40's, 50's and 60's, what, the hell, makes them think a teen would go to bed with someone, as old, as they are?
I can, only, imagine what was going through the mind of a 41 year old "hard core" police officer, who, obviously, knew, what he was doing was illegal. It was bad, enough, the conversation, he had, with a thirteen year old, but he drove that, gas thirsty, beast, of his, five hours, 350 miles and, probably, spent $70 in gas, to meet a thirteen year old girl, at night, with a live weapon in his pocket and, his vehicle, fully loaded, with, other, live weapons.
I don't know how, anybody, could say anything, bad, about Dateline, after that one. For all anybody knows, innocent lives, may have, literally, been saved. What could've, really, happened if that man showed up, at the house, a thirteen year old girl was alone, there, that late at night, and, he had, all, those weapons?
Dateline isn't ruining lives, they're, literally, saving lives. Despite what children learn, about strangers, as teens their guards can be penetrated by online chatting and they are, still, unsuspecting, who they, may, permit into their home, when not supervised.
It's not, so much, the teens having sex with adults. Some of these creeps can abduct or, even, kill these unsuspecting teens. For those, of you who are, still, skeptical, give Dateline, more credit, than that!

So many people make such a big deal about "to catch a predator", what about some of Chris Hansen's other investigations? It's bad enough so many American people are interested in sex with teenagers, but what about, our own, American people who travel to Cambodia, where it's, "practically", legal to rent small children for sex.
I think, anybody, stupid enough, to do that, shouldn't be permitted to re-enter the states.
This is, obviously, worse than meeting a teen, online, and then, arranging to have sex with them.
I've mentioned, many times, before, about the worst things that can happen to a potential predator. By posting some of these, unfortunately, it can give too many people some bad ideas how to combat some of the predator issues. It's not my intention to suggest how to commit other crimes against potential predators, but, try to warn anybody who may be thinking of meeting a teen, they chatted with. I'm sure, crimes like these, have already, occured.
Once again, rather than meeting Chris Hansen and the camera crew, a potential predator can be targeted for assault, blackmail, extortion or, even, murder, sometimes by minors.
I'm not suggesting anybody to take the law into their own hands. I recommend reporting anything, suspicious, anything from a minor, who may be home, alone and, possibly, in danger or anything, else, that could mean criminal activity.
As a potential predator, once you cross the line there's no turning back.

For all of you who insist there is no crime being committed, think again. Soliciting sex with a minor under 16 is a felony in many states. Even if the decoy isn't actually thirteen years old, the suspect doesn't know that; he thinks he is going to deflower a girl less than half his age. There's also no entrapment; the suspect is generally in full knowledge of what he is doing, and he is frequently the aggressor in chat conversations.
The only real problem I see is that real teen girls are so naive that they give no thought to potential consequences. I have seen 14- and 15-year-olds who post pictures of themselves half naked on their MySpace pages, talk about how hot they are, and give themselves names like sexylittleprincess. It really sends a message that they are seeking out this kind of exploitation, and it disturbs me. Where do they get the idea that it's okay to look, act, and talk like a tramp? Where are these girls' mothers?

There I was flipping through the channels when I found your show on T.V. I began watching after my fiance' mentioned that I just had to see this show. I think that this show is flat out "wrong". Not that I agree with the acts of a "sexual predator" or anything in that nature, but seriously, this all balls down to parenting. No, I am not a parent, but I am a teacher, and children, regardless of their age should be educated on what to avoid and what NOT to do. These "sexual predators" are only labeled this because in our culture, it is immoral, wrong, and disgusting to have a teenager and a grown man have any type of intimate relationship. Of course, I do not agree with what goes on however, these young ladies are getting themselves into trouble. Granted, these men have a disorder and a false perception of what our culture considers legal, but it should not be all their fault. If I had a daughter, I would like to think that I would kick her a-- before considering putting a man behind bars for this. Again, it's all about parenting. Where are these parents while their children are engaging in these long winded conversations? With all of the newest technological advances, where are the parental controls and follow-up once your child has been on the web? Sorry man, I just can't put all of the blame on these men. Is it sick, yeah? Should they seek help? Yeah. But should this show run the way it does and have these men criticized and accused of molestation when these young girls have agreed, if not requested all of this? In return, these men are taking advantage and satiating their own desires. Age and our cultures restrictions should not scrutinize or solely put the blame on one party. It's just not right. I applaud this series. You have helped our family in a big way. Our 14 yr. old daghter was contacted by a 19 yr. old male who "groomed" her for only a day before he started talking about sexual things. Because of your show we always monitor her chats and stopped this. We knew to make a copy of the chat log. Also he gave his phone number so we did a search for that and was able to get a name and address. He had shown my daughter a pic and we took all of this to the police and now are having him prosecuted. Thank you Chris & Dateline. This is not easy to go through and at times they try to make it seem as our daughter was a part of this, but in the end we just hope he'll never do this again.

Fort Myers, Florida is a good example of why it was better for Dateline to be there, rather than some of the criminals, thugs and/or gang bangers who, could've been there when the man, who showed up with his five year old son, was there. Had it been hoods, up to no good, would they have cared about the best interest of the little boy?
What about the guy, who stripped, naked, before going into the house? Can you say "GULLIBLE?"
Get him away from his clothing, his clothing, wallet and truck, all, disappear and he could've ended up in this house with, absolutely, no clothes, whatsoever. I can, just, imagine somebody chasing after their vehicle, naked.
Then, there's the guy, who had his sister and her two, small, children waiting in the driveway.
Nice, expensive homes are not immune to criminal activity and, had it been criminal activity would the players care about the safety or the welfare of the sister or children?
Again, anybody who may anticipate meeting up with a minor, for sex, not, only, needs to think about the legal trouble and the possibility of having their names smeared, all, over the media but what if it isn't Dateline? Most hoodlums don't like child molesters and can prepare for "hate crimes" against somebody, they may think, would molest a child.
I, still, think Dateline should use these examples as a deterrent, especially since the thought of being exposed, on TV, doesn't seem, to be enough.
Dateline is trying to reduce or, even, eliminate these types of crimes against the children of our country.
Once, again, anybody thinking about participating in, this kind of activity should think, again.
It's great that Dateline wasn't, very, busy in Bowling Green, Kentucky but a few more episodes need to happen that way, especially in California, where they, seem to, attract the most visitors to their houses.
This crime isn't going to, completely, stop so Dateline shouldn't stop, either.

I am so sick of these negative comments. What Chris and Perverted Justice are doing is a wonderful thing.

It is not entrapment...if you read the chat logs, the decoys give them several opportunities to back off by saying they are 12-14. Now what kind of perv would continue on knowing this? Plus the decoy did not put a gun to the guys heads and make them drive several hours to the house.

It is their own fault. If they are dumb enough to try and meet a teen for sex, then they deserve to be humiliated on national tv. This show should be a deterrent for would be offenders.

It does not create predators. Truth is these guys are out there on the computer, on the playgrounds, in public places. The computer only gives them access to kids without mom or dad giving the man dirty looks.

As for Conradt....he found himself in a trap of his own making and was looking for a way out. It isn't anybody's fault but his own, what was he doing trying to chat sexually and post nude photos to a minor? I hope the lawsuit gets thrown out and Patrica gets laughed at.
I was once molested by a man like that, who also ended up shooting himself in the head. People dont realize the kind of damage the actions of these scum have on kids.

Are all the captives really predators/pedafiles? I understand that they have pursued a minor but, what about the minor? Do they not have a responsibility in this or do we place that responsibility on the parents? ...or better yet should our government be responsible. Where this arguement is leading is towards the nation (adults, parents, government) to take responsibility for minor behavior. I do not blame men for being attracted to our so-called youth these days when our nation codones adult-like behavior on minors. It is a big contradictory message we are sending to our youth. At this point, my position on men/ women predation towards minors is only when it is not conscent. It does not seem important to consider age in this context given the freedom we give to minors as a nation. The minors are just as much a predator as these men. Let's be responsible first, before we go out ruining lives of these so-called predators and pedafiles.
May be some are wondering: I am not a parent but, if I were one; I would be accused of being a conservative. I would not let my kids use the internet (unless it were in my presence for school purposes only), present themselves indescently, etc.) This way I will be sure the predator/ pedafile I were to convict deserves it (unlike some of these wrongly accused victims of the law (in prison).

Summary: Chris, I think it would be more beneficial to interview the minors and their parents, rather than to attack the so-called predators/ pedafiles. More than you think these minors are aware of what they are doing and enjoy it, just like the adults enjoy it. As a viewer, I think myself and most others would appreciate to know the reasons behind minor-attraction towards adults (or the reasons for minor predatory behaviors). I believe we'll find that their preferences correspond.
The only way to really stop this is to take responsibility for our youths' behavior too; because aren't they as much a predator as the men you are exposing on your program. If we are willing to charge minors as adults for some crimes, why should not this crime fit the profile too?

Despite the overwhelming polarizing commentary, my conclusions are still that this predator problem is too trendy to actually deem it all of the mens fault. Many have stated that Dateline is doing a good thing - however, I do not think they are solving the real problem, which is regulating minor and adult behavior against these acts. Due to not solving the problem, these predators will get smarter and when I say the predators, I mean the minor predators and the adult predators because after all it does take two to tangle. The object of the show is, supposed to be, a deterrent toward future predators. It, seems like, it took three years to begin to work.
I like some of the messages, from other posted comments, from people who, seem to, agree with me.
Entrapment, or not, if a grown man continues to talk, about sex, to a girl, who said, she was thirteen, and then, drives, up to six hours, to meet her, it, definately shows intent and motive.
Most of these men know, from the beginning, it's wrong, but, the intentions are there.
What about, in the Fort Myers episode, where a man wanted a fourteen year old girl to have sex with a cat, and then, he would have sex with her? He has, never been to this house, before, never met this teen, before, but, drove, two hours, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Fort Myers, Florida, went, right, into the house and stripped, completely, naked, because, that was his end, of the deal, right?
This guy was, beyond, intent or motive. He was serious.
Chris Hansen isn't, the the only one, who could, just, imagine, what would've been going on, in that house, had, he, not, been there. Does anybody think, he was wrong, to think that?
Once again, the evidence is compiled, before the predator, agrees, to make the drive.
As, normal, people, how many, of us, especially, those, of us, who are parents, would, actually, agree, to meet, alone, with a minor, we never met, before, especially, at night? What about the alcohol or the condoms? Do, normal, people bring, those items, to an, unsupervised, minor?

Before I get started, a friend, of mine, allegedly, killed himself, accidently. The story, although, not very plausible, was attempted asphyxiation bonding.
Two weeks, ago, his ex wife received an e-mail, from his, last known, screen name, claiming, he, anxiously, loves her, alive and well, and somewhere, the rest of us, would, expect, him, to be, and wants to see her, 'didn't, even, ask, about their daughter.
Within five days, the screen name was discontinued. Nobody knows who was, really, behind it, an e-mail, from somebody, his family insists, is dead.
This is relevant to "To Catch a Predator," because, the point is, you don't know, who, you're talking to, when you're online, with somebody, who says, they're a thirteen year old girl, open, to the idea, about, having sex, with an adult.

The real problem is that these predators do not get enough jail time, they let these predators get a max of 5 years in prison and most of them only get 1 yr w/probation only to let them back on the streets to do it again, but when a person sells narcotic on the streets they want to sentence them to 10 yrs, It makes you wonder whos really to blame? I am a Park Ranger in Phoenix, Arizona. I have noticed at the park where I work, which is next to the city zoo, there have been an increased number of sexual crimes occurring. We are constantly having to remove men from the bushes that are preforming lewd sex acts, many of which are prominent city officials and many of which are involved in these sex acts with minors. I think these crimes are disgusting, and have found,when questioned, most of these men admit being internet predators. I applaud Dateline in their efforts and continue to pray that all of these predators are someday stopped.

I don't think this show should be allowed on television. I'm not in disagreement that these types need to be dealt with, but is there really any benefit to exploiting them on television? I have watched the show a number of times and most of the men that show up are very obvious losers, outcasts, whatever you want to call the unaccepted. I will not justify their actions, but it's not completely by surprise if you looked closely at their individual lives; Likely a far worse experience than a lot of us. I suppose the only argument for having the show air is to create awareness for children of that age. They do need to know that there are people out there that are willing to take them up on offers for inappropriateness, and are willing to go to great lenghts. Yes, it's scary that they are out there but are we really a society that deals with this serious of a problem by sensationalizing a capture of someone doing something socially unacceptable on network television? This serious problem needs to be dealt with in many other ways, that are positive for both the potential victims and the perpetrators.

As a victim of molestation when I was a child, I vigorously applaud Dateline for making these shows. I cannot believe the people that have commented about this as "baiting" these pedophiles. As adults, they know the difference between right and wrong. There is no grey area in the middle when it comes to messing with children. And, there are no excuses about having a bad childhood or going through a bad time because of divorce or any other BS. I don't use my bad childhood as an excuse for anything in my life since that time. I'm an adult and make my own decisions. I chose to NOT be a victim for my entire life. Anybody that has pity on these pedophiles is almost as sick as they are. In most cases, there is no treatment to correct their behavior. Unfortunately, most don't do much jail-time, and the recidivism rate is extremely high. I realize there are two sides to every situation, but how can some of you be so ignorant?

I'm helping raise 3 incredible children with my boyfriend (he has custody from a previous relationship). Two of them are girls, and I would tear anybody apart that attempted to cause them harm. I'm probably more paranoid than many parent figures because of my past, but I think this is something that's better to err on the side of caution than to be too lenient. The oldest girl is almost 12 and chats online with friends. We monitor her internet usage and have watched a few epidodes of "Predator" with her. Children need to know that life is not all rainbows and teddy bears. It's unfortunate in our society now that children have to grow up up faster and have knowledge of sex way before they should, but I think it's better that then any child lose their innocence through the hands and mind of a pedophile.

In light of the recent law suit against NBC, it think it is absolutely hilarious for someone to believe that someone would kill themselves because NBC was outside their door. The man killed himself because his secret was going to get out which would make him an outcast, possibly put him in prison if anyone were to find he had been doing this for a long time and had other victims and he would lose his job. It's not entrapment when you go on line looking for something no matter who is on the other end of the text message. He did the crime, he tried to seduce a child and if he had never done this he would still be alive. It's easy for people to blame others for their or their families sicknesses.
The internet is only one way for a person to become seduced and victimized, yes you can go to school yards and playgrounds, bus stops and anywhere on any street in America. The issue is we must do what we can when we can to help each other weather it involves ratings or not I am happy that someone has the courage to do something about the perverts in America that prey on children. I pray NBC wins their lawsuit and this lady realizes that her brother chose to kill himself and that no person held a gun to his head and forced him to pull the trigger, nor did they force him to seduce what he thought was a child, and that her brother was a pervert and as sad as that is she should accept it and move on instead of trying to gain from it.

I have read all of the comments people have posted on this site and it's very interesting to see people's different points of view on the subject. I would like to tell my story in hopes that it gives everyone a different perspective on "sexual predators" and the work that Chris Hansen is trying to do. My ex-husband is a sexual predator and he is currently waiting to be sentenced for his SECOND offense. I was 4 months pregnant with my twin sons when I got the call from our local sheriff's department telling me that they were arresting my husband of 10 years. It wasn't until I showed up at the crime scene to take custody of my then 3 year old son (yes he brought my son with him to the rendevous point) that I found out WHY my husband was being arrested. I was beside myself with shock and grief. As it turns out, my ex-husband was having on-line chats with what he thought was a 12 year old girl but was really the local sheriff's dept. I had no idea. I worked days, he worked nights so he had plenty of opportunity to do what he was doing. I thought the same thing alot of you did and that is it was entrapment. Unfortunately this was not the case. I got a copy of the email conversations and my ex-husband clearly was one to initiate the sexual conversation and even the idea of a meeting. To make matters worse, he had every intention of bringing this "12 yr old" back to my home to feed her, swim in the pool with her and even have sex with her in the same bed we had shared. What he would have done with my son during all this remains to be seen. My ex-husband went on to spend 8 months in the county jail. Alot of people were convinced that he had learned his lesson and that he would do everything possible to get his life back on track once he got out. That never happened. Within 7 weeks of his release, he tried going to the local Quik Chek to pick up three young girls. I thank god everyday that those girls had enough sense to not only get into the car with him but also to get his license plate number and contact the proper authorities. Between both offenses, he never gave any thought about his wife, his son, his unborn twins, his family, his job and most importantly how his actions would impact everybody and everthing. Today I am struggling to survive. There are no programs out there to help the people that are left behind when a family member gets incarcerated. Everyday I worry how I am going to provide for my children. Take it from me people, sexual predators have a sickness and there is no cure for them. They will continue to do it again and again and again. The only way to stop them is to keep them incarcerated. Every state should adopt Jessica's law which carries a minimum 25 year sentence for the FIRST offense. Parents need to educate their children of the potential dangers the internet can pose as well as being involved in their lives. With that said, I don't think that Chris Hansen is hosting the show for entertainment purposes. I believe he is doing it to raise awareness of an ever growing problem and to educate people about sexual predators. I commend him on his efforts and hard work and I thank him for getting more sick men like my ex-husband off the streets.

I have to say as a Scottish person viewing To Catch a Predator I think it is setting a worrying precedent. I've seen guys from 16-24 date girls under the age of 16 and it is clearly wrong but should it be classed in the same way as someone who is 40+ years old and grooms young girls regularly? I think your show clumps both groups together and fails to draw a line between them. As for many of the 'Predators', your show really only displays them for what they are, outcasts of society with poor social skills, low self confidence and badly educated (in general).

Wouldn't it be good to do a show exploring the root of this problem, explaining the pattern of this in families and trying to break the trend instead of just jailing people. In this day and age why are we so determined to jail more and more when there are proven solutions to these types of crimes. It's such a narrow minded view, and if I was being cynical the programs approach is clearly done for viewing figures and shock value more than trying to actually help solve the issue.

I first saw your program when I was on holiday in florida
I am now watching it on line and think it’s a great program and very good what you are doing.
There is never an excuse for trying to meet with these young girls, I just cant help wondering about the law there, as these men are talking to older women and then meeting with an 18 year old.
I know they went there for another reason, but did they actually break the law as there was no children ever involved ?
Im not trying to protect these guys at all and think its right they go to jail, I just wondered about it.

Chris, I appreciate what you do. That being said, I think what is most telling is the fact that this show somehow manages to generate controversy... you have to SERIOUSLY wonder about people who have a problem with this show. Is it because they think 50 year olds should be able to molest 13 year olds legally? Is it because they're would-be molesters themselves?

I think these are the questions that should be asked. They boggle the mind.

Maybe you can help me, I have been E-Mailing Myspace.com about my granddaughter. She has an Myspace account along with all of their friends ( All under age). Tried to have Myspace Remove the account and ran into a roadblock with them. They say just to go out and fillout the under age file and they will send the E-Mail account, a E-Mail on closing the account. Problem is the account does not exist so you can not go foward with closing it. We have our grand daught full time she is 12 with a birthday next month.
I can give you her site if it would help.

I do very much appreciate what this show represents. i think people who are putting it down (they either are/know a predator, or they do not have children. why would neone not think this show is doing Justice?? but to my point i am all for the show and dont wish nothing good for these perverts.

Can a minor be considered a predator?
A large number of individuals hide behind the "under age" term to continue invading our homes, using sweet talks with the only objective of having sex, once that is done and our daughters become prenant they just walk away unpunished looking for their next victim, leaving behind childs without fathers and little girls forced to become moms. In my opinion a sexual predator does not have to be 21 or older.
Am I wrong in this?
A minor took advantage our daughter, came in to our house when she was along and disrespected our house and our daughter, once she become prenant he with the support of his mom and grandma, just wiped his hands alleging been a minor.
Predators use tacticts with the only objective of having sex.
Of course, predator or potential predator will ever admit to be a criminal.
Been a minor is just an excuse for many to continue their predator raw.

I am a real supporter of this show. I read Chris Hansen's book about the children who ended up dead in real life cases. It is wonderful that dateline is exposing the filthy underground of seemingly normal people. For the PEOPLE WHO ARE DEFENDING THE PREDATORS; specifically Kathy, NEW YORK. Suppose you have a 13 year old girl or boy; maybe you do. Would you allow that little innocent child to be taken into the grimy hands of a man 10+ years older than him/her? To act out their disgusting acts on a small child for their own pleasure? Ignorance is bliss. Let me tell you this, read the book. There was one story in particular that caught my eye; the one about the little girl who invited a man to her house whom then later raped her and shot her through the head before taking his own life. Oh yes, the pure "sensuality" of it..that 24 year old man abusing and STEALING the life from a tiny girl who barely got to live. You all defending it; perhaps you should admit yourselves to jail for allowing such behavior. Or better yet, be whisked back in time to your own childhood and molested by someone strange or someone you trusted. You have the need for soul searching. The ones who feel the "truth" is disgusting? Turn off your TV and go watch the Waltons. Ignorance is bliss. Especially for you. Perhaps you are the same people who advocate a priest raping his choir boy and letting him change districts because he is a so called "man of God." Search your soul too. For the people who stand behind me, thank you. Maybe thats one less predator. For the others, perhaps you would like to be caught on the show yourselves? I wouldn't put it past you. Seeing some of these guys get put in handcuffs brings a sense of accomplishment a sense that phew, there is a consequence to this sort of behaviour. Unfortunately, they start talking, and it all falls apart. NONE of these guys actually gets it. They crocodile tear-up, they say they are sorry, but you KNOW they only say it hoping it will make a difference in how hard they get the book thrown at them. As a woman who experienced her first sexual encounters at the hands of a grown man, it To Catch a Predator is affirmation that what I experienced was wrong, that he was wrong to even entertain the idea, much less go through with it..again and again. Please keep up the great work. These guys won't stop, will say anything to get out of it, and will never actually admit what they are doing to these children...the Fulston episode I just watched tonight showed a police officer asking if the perpetrator understood that this sort of encounter would mess up the little girls' mind for the rest of her life. It does. I am a mother of two boys.I am presently working on baby number three (IVF), and I know horrible things also happen to boys, but again I have this sick feeling all over again at the thought that I could give birth to a girl. I know I would love her and for the longest time, I thought it was because I didn't want her to turn out like me. Well, I guess that really is the reason...I don't want her to be treated as I was, I don't want her to experience what I did, I don't want her damaged like me, angry like me, sad like me, torn like me, sick like me, scared like me. Oh yeah, and I don't want to resent her for having a perfect life.
Please Please Please, keep up the great and wonderful work. And I keep watching the show I turn the sound down when the predators start talking, so that I can still feel the elation that another one bites the dust without listening to all the ridiculous excuses and honest to goodness crap they seem to believe that we will all believe.
