This show is a great service to the public, along the lines of a Most Wanted show on another network. No matter the ratings, great or not, this show should continue. We see from those that watch the show and travel to the decoy house anyway that there is no potential consequence great enough to prevent them from attempting to have sex with a minor. As a father of a young son and a forthcoming father of a daughter, I have to believe that such exposure prevents at least some from starting their on-line chats for fear of being caught. There is little doubt that once they start, they cannot stop, but perhaps fear of being featured on this show can be the impetus for some to never begin.

Here is the problem. Let's say that the behavior exists to even a greater extent than we think. And I agree that it's the most disgusting of behaviors.
Other than to sensationalize it, what have you done to actually address the problem? Four hundred shows later this approach will not make a dent in the problem. It may have earned MSNBC and yourself millions of dollars.
Other than catching these people, and exposing them on national TV, what else exists in your process? Do you provide education to stop this kind of behavior?
Do you provide treatment for those who are caught?
If someone is caught drinking while driving, which is also a dangerous behavior and often affects the rights of others, along with the penalty they get some hope of treatment. You are stepping into a problem, let’s say a severe one.
Other than to sensationalize it, is that part of your program that is constructive?
Chris, you understand the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. The act of examining a event in some way alters the event, just by your observing it. When there is additional pain or shame caused by your process, who speaks to that?
Another question, I understand entrapment. I also understand that we have an organization called law enforcement to solve this problem. Is it legal for you to become and enforcement officer? You are making this your full time vocation. Do you have any training in law enforcement?
I understand, you partner with law enforcement. Is it legal for law enforcement to partner with you? If MSNBC decided to attempt to pick up every drunk in lower NYC, would or should the police department rush to arrest all the alcoholics that you have found? And where does your process face the light of day that every investigation needs to face?
And finally, by planning this unspeakable action, I have also given you the permission to broadcast my image to the nation? I know that you would never allow this to happen, but what if one of the producers made a mistake?
Chris, here is the first of two issues that really bothers me about this. You come across as enjoying this. Turn of the sound for five minutes and watch your facial expressions. Better yet, have a psychiatrist watch them. You are acting like a bully.
And you are enjoying it. Entitled or not, that is what you will find if you look at yourself objectively. We don’t let our law enforcement people behave this way. And I understand the temptation.
Investigative journalism, maybe. This doesn’t look like Woodward and Bernstien tracing the money to the President. As far as I can see no talent or journalism required here at all? If so, what is it? Your ability to interrogate? That doesn't put you in a very different category than those you arrest.
Chris, I am attempting not to get angry myself, but you have legitimized being a bully. No matter how disgusting, you are picking on the sickest and the weakest among us. There was a movie made once about other abnormal behaviors. It was called On Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. As McMurphy was lobotomized, shouldn't we administer justice right on the spot to these people.
Honestly, there is something about this that isn't right about this. It's mean. And it may not be fair. And that matters. That matters a lot.
That isn't why television journalism was created, to play the same pathetic story, forty two times. And in that act, that is where for me, you have crossed the line. I did not ask you or MSNBC to police the internet for me. First you can't. And secondly, for my community, we haven't asked you to come here. That is my second problem. A rhetorical question. Are you willing to give me $10,000's to investigate your past and create a special episode about your background we can broadcast on MSNBC. Guaranteed I will find something that you would not like on national television. So your premise is that by breaking the law, I have also given you the right to broadcast my actions on national television?
Chris, I do not want to start a movement that in any way appears sympathetic to those you trap. They are pathetic. And their behavior needs to be stopped. I am questioning the method.
This isn't the only illicit behavior on the internet. There are many others. Identity theft, scams of all varieties, illegal gambling. Maybe the internet should be regulated. Maybe this sentence that I am typing should be scanned by the government for words that indicate terrorism. Perhaps it already is.
You have picked a tough problem. One that will not yield to a very simple approach.
Two things really mother me, and yes, I do draw analogies the Mr. McCarthy. One, you enjoy this way too much. It really borders on sadism. Two, no one asked you to perform this role. You volunteered.
No one asked Mr. McCarthy to purify us from communism. He volunteered. And mean spirited. Must have been, or a journalist would not have remarked, "Have you no decency?"

Chris I have to commend you on the great work you are doing, and I think parents need to join your effort and help create a no tolerance group for internet predators. I believe we have only tapped the surface in the predatory crimes on the net, and at least we have strict laws against adult predators, but there is a growing number of teens who solicit teens with explicit emails and we just dealt with a 14 year old trying to get a 12 year old to engage in sexual activity. Both of them had a myspace and the 12 year old was my daughters best friend. She let my daughter see emails he sent to her, and she had access to his account as well. My daughter let me read the entries. this girl had a private space. He is known to her and a friend, but his emails messages to her were erased routinely so her dad would not see. SO everything looked ok to her parents, but we witnessed grooming type behavior from his entries to her and if she would not have shared this with my daughter, I would not have known. I contacted the parent. It was a very difficult conversation. THis boy had similar conversations with 15 other girls in their private network. by the way, he lives in a great neighborhood, he is in middle school, and he is very popular. Plays sports, goodlooking. Most moms just love him. He has been sexually active for over a year. He targets the girls who are insecure and younger than him. After reviewing the emails I saw from this young lady of his correspondences with other girls, it was apparent he would stop talking to them after he got what he wanted. He called the girls terrible, deragatory names. If we do not monitor our kids online activity better and more thorough, we are just creating a new generation of predatory behavior. I think all parents need to have their child's passwords and should be a watch dog on all activity daily. It took this young man sometimes only two to three dialogues with the girls before he started the sexual questions. These are girls who have parents who say they are safe! By the way the parents who knowingly let their underage girls get a MYSPACE should be held liable for child endangerment. SOrry for the long blog, but I feel parents need to wake up, and stop trying to be the cool parents. We need to monitor our children. DAILY.

Quite frankly I have mixed opinions about your show. First & foremost, I strongly believe that sexual solicitations to a minor should be firmly punished by law. Nevertheless, I think it's an obvious fact that there's lots of men & "women" out there with serious psychological sexual issues. There's no surprise in how sexually ill-minded people can be. Having said that, on the other hand I do not agree with
your approach to these individuals. Seems similar to those cop shows that dress a woman all slutty & high heels, have her walk downtown acting all flirty & hooker-like, to attract desperate men whom perhaps would've not paid any mind to her, have they not been provoked in such ways. To then, have them exposed to the world on TV like the perverts that they are, but at the same time permanently destroying the individual's family, social, & work life; all mostly to make a high-ratings show. Your show has somewhat a similar set-up. You disguise yourselves as an online underage girl; though not just any ordinary underage girl, more like a frisky sexually provoking little girl, and of course foolish pervs are going to bite the bait.

All I'm saying is, give these guys a chance, there are obviously very sexually ill people in these country. Come up with different methods to reprimand them
...give them psychological aid, put them on monitored probation, give them jail time if required, but don't make these poor sick losers even more losery by burring their remote chances of ever having a life while ridiculing them on TV.

You should take it a step further. Once the predator is seated comfortable, the decoy should have a change of mind. Have the decoy ask the predator to please leave because she changed her mind. This would determine which predators are violent or would try to force the issue.

I think this is a wonderful thing. I know it's a major expense to set up an operation like this, but I'm certian that you could do this every single day and catch people each time. The prevalence of adults who prey on children is astonishing. The most astonishing aspect of this investigation is that it is not a deterrent. So many of these suspects indicated that they've seen the show and are aware their actions are being televised.

I would love to see such an operation established in every major city every day. I'm sure you could get plenty of volunteers of time and money to assist this effort, as most people despise child molestors.

I have to wonder about these people who condemn TCAP & PJ. You'd think that efforts to catch pedophiles, and get them into a system where they're exposed, incarcerated, or at the least, monitored would be met with praise.

This isn't entrapment. The decoys never initiate a conversation online. They never initiate sex talk online. They do not initiate talk of meeting in-real-life. In fact, by reiterating their ages ie: "I don't drive, I'm only 13." they try to get the perv to do the "right" thing.. walk away.

They offer the perv many opportunities to rethink their intentions. The chat logs are written to encrypted databases in real time and cannot be altered by the decoys. These raw logs are presented to law enforcement. If the pervs show up at a bust they deserve worse than they usually get.

If you doubt the validity of PJ's methods, educate yourself. All the information is available on the net.

If you think TCAP is about ratings and humiliation, shame on you. As a parent I'm grateful for their efforts.

Personally - I think those that decry the efforts and results of the TCAP/PJ probably have some reason to be uncomfortable about it's effectiveness.

Let me make it clear that I in NO WAY condone what these men are doing and nothing I say should be meant as a way of negating it. Chris Hansen really embarrasses and humiliates the men on TV and that's fine...the ridiculous excuses and lies they tell make me WANT to see them exposed as the dumb asses they are. In the rare instance that someone does come out and admit what they're doing is wrong, couldn't Hansen cut them a small break and not be so cut-throat as he is with the others? I was watching a re-run tonight and didn't catch the young man's name (it may have been Chris), but he immediately admitted that he was wrong, Hansen was right, there was no excuse for his behavior, he must be sick in the head, etc. He offered up NO EXCUSES for being there and asked several times if he could leave and just go out and be arrested. Hansen never answered his repeated questions ("May I leave? Can I just go now?") but instead read back to him some of the more appalling things he'd written....to which he answered, "Yes, I know. You're right." Never once did he deny or challenge any of the allegations. Again, I'm not condoning any of this; I'm suggesting that in light of his honesty and candor, perhaps Hansen could've lightened up a bit on the attack. The others blatantly offend the intelligence of Hansen and anyone watching and deserve the humiliation. It just seems that this young man -- though admitting what he'd done was perverted -- was more respectful than the others; ergo, a little more respect could've been returned. coodos to you kepp up the GREAT job you do for this COUNTRY I'm not attacking the comments of others but some of the questions and concerns of the comments made concern me in this day and age of keeping up with the JONES both parents are probably working leaving our children at home for about a half hour to 1or2 hours from being released from school or worst yet what about the single parents trying to make ends meet working and leaving older sibblings watching younger siblings I think that people should thank you for exposing some of the DIRTBAGS that you do and if that makes you a (bully) so be it and be proud of your attitude because if someone was trying something like that with my child and I walked in and found that!!! There would be hell to pay probably jail so keep on exposing and letting us know if there are potential preds in our area, question is why don't they get more jail time than they do if you were'nt there to stop the act before it started it probably would have happened, most parents if not all are behind you and your crew 1000% KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK

Chris: I like to say thanks for this show. It is one of the many moves we, as people, need to do to keep our kids safe. But, that is not all. In this country, you need to be more open to keep this looking fair. There are lots of women sickos in this world too, you'll be surprised. Kids solicitating their first time, they need to be educated since obvious their parents don't do it. We will be amazed to see what comes out of this. I just read a news about a guy, 40, that had sexual contact with a 5 yr old girl; yes, not 13 or 15, a 5 yr old. The problem is bigger than we could possibly think. This show is interesting, and makes it very clear that the internet can be a scary place, but what about the other side of the story? The men caught didnt act by themselves. The child played just as big of a role as the adult; Kids can be just as sexually ill as adults. Yeah, the adult did intend to have sexual relations (some people find that innopropriate, but obviously not everyone), but if it was via an online chat, the kid was probably asking for it too.

Locating people who are addiced to sex is a good idea, and helping to treat them is even better, but publically exposing them seems to only have negative effects, other than viewer satisfaction.

I'm only trying to give these guys a hint of slack because, as a teen, I know kids can be very manipulitive. It takes two to tango, right?

As a woman who was sexually assaulted by a man I met on the internet when I was young, I obviously can not post my last name as he is still on the street; But watching this show and reading the Dateline website as well as years of professional counseling made me realize he was very much a predator grooming me for rape. He'd asked me about my being molested as a child and so on so forth to find out if I was vulnerable and so forth...

Point being, I watch this show and for ever guy the police shove to the ground in tears, I am thankful for your efforts to stop men like these, and yes, I admit I pray to see the man who raped me one day face you and answer the questions you ask and face the police as he walks out the door.

I hope he cries like the baby he is for hunting out an abused vulnerable teen for his sick sadistic games.

Please let there be an 12th, 13th, 14th and so on series in this program.

I want to say that I hope you can continue to do these shows. I have 2 teen stepdaughters. I try to explain to them about the dangers of my space and online chats. I love that your show has given me the back up information to show them that the danger is real. I love this show. You'd think that men would at least wise up. Most of them watch the show, I'm sure. It is an important issue, though.
