Are you kidding! I am watching the Dateline episode in shock as I wonder who made this dreadful choice. It is intersesting to me that you choos Texas. A state that pirdes itself in the game of football as it is succesful in the sport in many of the towns that makeup the state. However, I cannot believe that Pampa, Texas made the cut. A longtime resident of Lubbock, and someone who grew up in the West Texas town of Iraan, I am outraged. Is it your goal to make our state look bad? We pride ourselves in the sport of football and you choose a town that has a tradition of losing. A town that has gained recognition in nothing much less in football. This does not surprise me at all. A liberal news cast making a state like Texas look like a fool. Why do the story at all? Thanks for nothing Dateline. Next time you do a football expose on a team in Texas please get your history/facts straight. You are far from a good story but thats nothing new.

Why Pampa

Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories. I am still in school, but i go to Tascosa High in Amarillo. I moved here my Sophomore year, last year, from the wonderful town of Pampa, Texas. I have loved football for all my life. Pampa was the best place to grow up for this. I go to our Tascosa football game, and yes there are cherring fans and support for our team, but not like at Pampa. Once the game is over we all go home to sleep or watch t.v. etc...There is almost no support for our Tascosa outside of school, but in Pampa, it is almost a way of life, everyone provides support, you can find it anywhere. My point being, Pampa is an amazing small town with a community no other town or city could ever match. I love Pampa, I haven't always, but that's just human nature, "you don't know what you've got till its gone". It was refreshing to see the focus of the story not on winning, but on Faith in God, teamwork, strength, family, and hard work. I also am raising my family here, 2 daughters, and being able to have them sit and watch this airing, and see their eyes wide with anticipation and their voices filled with excitement, is priceless. They were so excited, not only because they were a part of the Jr. Cheerleaders and were waiting with baited breath to catch a glimpse of themselves, but also because it was their hometown on TV. I am sorry that I didn't get to view that program but thanks to an e-mail from a friend in Dallas I read much and saw names that made my heart thump with pride because I am a graduate from Pampa High class of '65 and proud to be.

Suzanne Riley of Lubbock,Texas just doesn't get the point"Pride of Pampa" is exactly that, "PRIDE" is what it's all about at Pampa High.I am very fortunate to have went to school there as were my two sons.

There have been so many quality athletes graduate from that school than most all other schools in Texas,Randy Matson, world record holder and olympic gold medal winner,Kenny Herbert, best quarterback in Texas in his time, and last to say the least,Zach Thomas, all pro linebacker with Miami Dolphins. These folks played for Pampa High and ask them if they know what pride stands for.

Some of the greatest people in my life taught and coached at that school,Norman Phillips,Weldon Trice,Pete Erwin,Principal Cameron Marsh,Asst. I couldn't take my eyes off the t.v. I felt like I was watching Teurlings Catholic High School. My son is a freshmen football player there and the varsity team is nothing to be reckoned with. Our head coach lost his father as well(when he was a senior). One of our boys lost his father this school year, he's a senior as well. Everyone honored his father alike. We also had someone break their arm during the homecoming game and had surgery. He healed well and had his cast put back on so he could play the final game. He was also a senior. Our guys never give up and made it to the semi-finals. I enjoyed your program so much and wish you could highlight more schools periodically.

Why Pampa

Great job Stone on the Pampa Harvesters, the people of Pampa, and Pampa as a great panhandle city. The pride and greatness goes back to late 40's and early 50's with some of the best athletes and has continued thru out the years.Total Harvester pride and community support.
I will remember fore-ever your efforts to show how the heart of pampa is there children first and foremost.
Having lived 28 years of my life with a son with downs I can co mind Pampa High and it's student body
for their acceptance of Trent Toler.
I was raised a block from Pampa High.(still call it home)Your report makes even more proud.

Why Pampa

I grew up in Pampa and while the story was nice, it appeared there was no Pampa harvesters before the father and son you profiled. My biggest disappintment is your story makes Pampa appears to be a typical" small town in Texas ". All White. Was there not one African American whose views deemed appropriate for the show? Or were there any African American adults interviewed at all? but did not make the cut?

Why Pampa

My parents were 1969 graduates of PHS, My brother a 1989 grad, and myself a 1992 graduate with Coach Andy Cavalier. I played for Pampa in the early fifties under Coach Tipps, Nooncaster, and Lyons. Yep, only three coaches then, but in three years the only team to defeat us became the State Champs first in 2A and then in 4AA ball. The important things though weren't the wins, it was what the coaches taught you about life and what was expected of you. It was a sprit that carried over into many areas of your life and still is with many of us. The same was true of the basketball program, and the band, no it was just true about the school in general. A follow up on some of the people of the 40's and 50's would find a Marine Test Pilot, a judge in California, a former Dean at a major university, several business owners and all in all a pretty neat group of people. The Class of 1952 is even honoring on of the teachers that served as a mentor to many young people. He was a coach, teacher, friend and above all an inspriation to many former students. The class is raising $100,000 to fund a scholarship to a deserving graduate of Pampa High School and it is named after Coach Nooncaster.

I have often said, if I could bottle up the experience of growing up in Pampa, with the friendships made, and the lessons learned, it would be worth a billion dollors for the kids today.

Why Pampa

I think that the story was great. I only caught the second half but the jist of it was tremendous. My brother and I both graduated from PHS (93 and 96) but neither played. I do remember going to the games on friday nights and cheering on our team, or even travelling to the away games with friends. It is refreshing to see that the integrity is still there. The two people (Lubbock and CA) don't have a clue. I would invite them in on a weekend, and I will travel home and meet them at The Coney to buy them lunch and talk about small-town pride. Anyone want to join? Stone, you did a wonderful job in your report. Living in the subs of Chicago now my son (5) will play sports I hope, but I really pray that there are coaches in the schools here that will treat them as they have and had where I am from. Thanks again MSNBC and Stone.

Why Pampa

Pam L. I was a young bride when my husband took me to Pampa, TX. I had not ever heard of the city. What a city. We lived there for 13 years. The people of Pampa welcomed us and I felt right at home. My husband was the basketball coach there. The town of Pampa is filled with wonderful people. We learned a lot from having the experience of living there. The town supported anything the Pampa High School students did, whether it was a band concert, a Senior play, tennis, baseball, basketball or football. They took "PRIDE' in supporting the students. I spent Christmas 2006 in Pampa. It is a pleasure to return whenever I can. During the first season's pre district games, Shannon was called upon at the end of a game to attempt a field goal and if converted it would be the game winner.
He was successful and on the ensuing kick off he also had to tackle a potential game winning runback by the opponent. He did so and after a brief celebration returned to the sideline. Dennis met him half way and began to "chew" on him rather dramatically. I was livid and immediately after the contest I approached my son and asked him "What in the world was Cav thinking? He said, First of all dad, I deserved all the chewing because I did not follow one of our rules..I did not run off the field and Coach Cav simply in rather dramatic terms let me know that even though I had just "won" the game so to speak, I was Never to walk off the field of play but I would always run to the sidelines......that simple....From that moment forward, I never questioned Dennis. He was a man of principle and he exhibited it in every moment of his life. He passed this to all of his players, friends, coaches, etc. and this same principle is being carried out today.

Why Pampa

Thank you Dateline for the program on Pampa, Texas. I have visited Pampa several times over the past 23 years. My wife has numerous cousins, two brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews that all attended Pampa High School. How blessed are those who still reside there and carry on the kind & loving community spirit. There is a unique-ness to the people of the Panhandle..hardworking, kind and honorable. Football and the Harvesters is only a very small part of that. Kudos to Coach for continuing to promote the spirit and pride of Pampa. I must say that though I was happy to see my home town on national television, I was also disgusted that it depicted us as a football only school. In truth, it is the Latin Club that runs the show, much like the young man said. It is no longer about the 'jocks.' I will say that football does have a larger appeal than Latin, but in truth Pampa, Texas is mostly about the 'Latinites,' as we call ourselves. Not to mention that basketball and baseball, though not as big, are very important here. However, I digress. Latin Club pwns all the other n00b activities with a wrath not seen since Julius conquered the Britons.

Why Pampa

I am so proud to be able to call Pampa my "hometown" but unfortunately I now live in Lubbock. Suzanne from Lubbock is just like everyone else from here who walk (and DRIVE) around with their head up their butt!!! I think it was a wonderful special.

Why Pampa

I just saw the special last night, Mar 13,2007, and of course when they mentioned Pampa Tx, I perked up, Living In Pittsburgh, Pa, You don't hear much about any small towns in that area, being from that area my self, western Kansas, and especially on National TV When they mentioned Dennis Cavalier, I was even more interested. I went to Southwestern College with Dennis and Kathy at the time they were there. They wouldn't know me from adam, but I knew them. The name Cavalier has stuck with me everytime I hear the name Dennis. I did not know them very well, but always admired what Dennis did for the school. They would know the others from my town, Elkhart, Kansas, that went there, Craig and Sharla Williams, and Deanna Schrauner.

I have recently lost my husband also, so can relate to that aspect of losing a wonderful man. My husband was to the Airlines and Dennis was to Football. So I know what it is like to lose a spouse that is totally dedicated to his job and helping people. That was his life everyday.

I looked at the pictures and thought where did almost 40 years of our life go, but I could see in Dennis and Kathy's eyes that they were the same people, even though they did not look anything like they did in school. I suppose I don't either, I went to the SC Year book and looked at their pictures and also mine. But yes the shine in their eyes was still there.

If they are interested. I was Cynthia Nusser and I lived in Fisher Hall. I now live in Pittsburgh, Pa, but am going to move back west where I belong.
Why Pampa

Welcome to our website for you World of Warcraft Gold,Wow Gold,Cheap World of Warcraft Gold, cheap wow gold, buy cheap wow gold, real wow gold, sell wow gold, ...Here wow gold of 1000 gold at $68.99-$80.99 ,World Of Warcraft Gold, world of warcraft gold buy wow gold, sell world of warcraft gold(wow gold),buy euro gold wow Cheap wow gold, cheapest wow gold store ... buy euro gold wow wow gold--buy cheap wow gold, sell wow gold.welcome to buy cheap wow gold--cheap, easy, world of warcraft gold wow gold purchasing.World of Warcraft, wow gold Super ...
We can have your wow gold, buy wow gold, wow gold game, world of warcraft gold, wow Gold Cheap wow, Cheap wow gold, world of warcraft gold deal,Cheap WOW Gold ...

Welcome to our website for you World of Warcraft Gold,Wow Gold,Cheap World of Warcraft Gold, wow gold, buy cheap wow gold, real wow gold, sell wow gold, ...
Here wow gold of 1000 gold at $68.99-$80.99,World Of Warcraft Gold, gold wow buy wow gold, sell world of warcraft gold(wow gold),buy gold wow lightninghoof instock Cheap wow gold, cheapest wow gold store ...
wow gold--buy cheap wow gold, sell wow gold.welcome to buy cheap wow gold--cheap, easy, wow gold purchasing.World of Warcraft, wow gold Super ...
Wow gold- Gold for buy gold wow lightninghoof instock EU-Server: ...wow Gold EU: starting from 84,99?; 3000 WoW Gold EU: starting from 119,99?. wow Gold- Leveling Services: ...
We can have your wow Gold, buy wow Gold, gold wow wow Gold game, wow gold, Cheap wow Gold, Cheap World of Warcraft Gold, world of warcraft gold deal, buy cheap wow gold,Cheap WOW Gold ...

Here wow Gold of 1000 gold at $68.99-$80.99,World Of Warcraft Gold, buy wow Gold, sell world of warcraft gold(wow gold),Cheap wow gold, cheapest World of Warcraft Gold store ...

Why Pampa

http://www.ready4game.com/about.htm

Why Pampa

PAMPAOKLAHOMA .COM PAMPACOLORADO SPRINGS .COM PAMPAJAYOKLAHOMA .COM PAMPAERICK OKLAHOMA .COM PAMPATEXLOA OKLAHOMA .COM PAMPAELK CITY .COM

Why Pampa

My wife and I met in Pampa 13 years ago while working in the hospital there. Neither of us were originally from Pampa, but it always felt like home to me. Small town, family values, Friday night football--what more could one want? Things like, traditions, fan support, levels of spirit, coach backgrounds and styles, wins, losses, state championships, player academics elgibility and player safety from injuries, which is important to me now, being a former player from Pampa graduating in 1981. I never could make first team. Learning what I was supposed to do on plays from that huge playbook we had then was not as important as English Literature(Yawn!), Algebra, Government, Biology, American History, get the picture ? Not to mention, Dealing with bullies, my mom's divorce, house chores after school and since I was the oldest, I had to watch my younger brother and sister until Mom got home from work. Eventhough, after saying all this, I probably(?) was not much different from some of the other players on the team at the time. Though I didn't study the playbook too well, I remember giving it my all in football practice. I may not have been football smart, but I had a lot of heart. If I could not play in the game, I was going to get in some hits at practice time. Some days were brutal. My brain felt like jello slapping against a wall inside my head on some days. This concerns me now because some years back I contracted epilepsy. My doctor told me it could have been from a brain injury from a time period before and that now my brain has deteriorated to a point that now causes the seizures. I loved playing football at Pampa. We had lots and lots of school spirit. I made lots of friends with my team mates who I will never forget. One of my coaches said that we only get to do this(play high school football) once in our lives so make the best of it ! If I had it all to do over again, I would in a blink.

Why Pampa

I spent most of my growing up years in Pampa, Texas during the 70's and 80's and was a PHS 1987 graduate. I have been an educator for 14 years and my husband has been a coach and a teacher for 16 years. We have lived in many different places moving from town to town. That is common in the coaching profession, especially in the early years of a coaches career. I have been a part of many communities and many school systems as a result. I can say that Pampa was an excellent town to grow up in and I had great teachers throughout school. I still keep in touch with a few of them to this day. My father, Jim McBride, also grew up in Pampa and was a graduate of 1957. His father, Lee Roy McBride, bought the Pampa Harvester Bell from an old church and kept it for use at all the football games. The bell has contributed to the excitement and enthusiasm of PHS football for many, many years. My grandfather's story is in the archieves of the West Texas A&M museum in Canyon, Texas. In the document at the museum there are a few stories about the history of the bell and the adventures that went along with it, including being stolen by our rivals and being thrown down a cliff. My grandfather also told how back in the early days, most of the town would get on a train and ride to Amarillo (about 60 miles) to root for the Harvester football team. He was a proud supporter of the Harvesters. He always said that Pampa was a great place to be. Dateline, thank you for doing a great story on the Pampa Harvesters. It brought back many wonderful memories. I still see the Harvester's play now and then since my husband is a football coach in Amarillo. Go Harvesters!!!

Why Pampa

I also grew up in Pampa, born and raised. I am black and my memories are not as cherishable as my white school mates. Looking back on my experiences, the Pride of Pampa might as well have been the White Pride of Pampa. The Pride of Pampa was indeed the band, the football team, as great as it was/is, has never been known for being winners. In Pampa, if you are a talented football player you will play Ironman football. That means that you will play defense and offense, never coming off of the field. If this story is supposed to be about the character of people, Dateline got it wrong. There are some nice people there, but even some of the nice ones are deeply rooted racist. You did not see any blacks praising the town of Pampa and it's people. That is probably because they could not find anyone that is black that feels that way about the town. I burned rubber out of Pampa when I was able and have not looked back. I Graduated in 84' and could not wait to get out of that prejudice environment. Pampa is a great town to live in...if you are white.

Why Pampa

We also lived in Pampa and agree with what Mr. Cleve Deason wrote concerning the "deeply rooted" prejudice environment within this community. Football is a huge thing here. The story was great and I agreed with most of it. Some of it I didn't agree with. The pride in my heart will always be the band. And I will always have the memories I made in band. We spent alot more time out there working then the football team. I didn't graduate from PHS. I was pulled out in the middle of my junior year and homeschooled. Because there were problems in the school I couldn't over come. I just finished reading what Suzanne Riley had to say about Datelines story on Pampa. Honestly in my opinion how would you know anything about our football, town, and schools. Yes, maybe our football team my not be the best in in the state of Texas, but the students and young men put their heart and soul into our sports. They practice long hard hours into our football games, and frankly what do you know about football Suzanne, but i don't see you out on that field on hot days practicing. Or even playing out on that feild for a madder of fact. We play up against some of the toughest teams in texas, but we dont give up! Pampa works hard at what we do, and everyday we are achieving even more! Our schools are improving and students are working hard! Pampa may be a hard town to live in but we try, and thats more to say about any other schools. So please explain to me how you would know what its like being out on that field, or any field at that. Our school believes in each other and friends and family are all that matter, they support our school weather you care or not.

Why Pampa

Thank you NBC on such a wonderful story about Pampa and it's football team. I am glad that you touched on the heart and soul of the town as well. How wonderful to read so many positive messages from people who currently live here, or have lived here before. I am a 1987 graduate of Pampa High School and still currently live here. It is a great town and it is nice it got national recognition. GO HARVESTERS!!!

Why Pampa

Wow, All that and bag of potato chips. Pampa is not all that. I was partially raised there and football is about all that is there to polish over the epidemic which has and still is destroying the town. Those of you who are truelly from pampa know exactly what I am talking about. The corruption in the local government there did not go away when Sherriff Rufe Jordan(probably misspelled) died. It still persists. Don't let this story fool you. Back in the 80's, Johnny Carson called Pampa, Tx "Little Chicago" for a reason, and that reason is still alive and still killing the town. Sorry about all the negativity, but I didn't want anyone to be misled.

Joshua Leard,
Pampa High School
Class of '94

Why Pampa

Hi my name is Krissy Green and I am a student at Pampa High School. I just finished ready what Suzanne Riley had to say, and frankly I am angered by her comment. Honestly Suzanne what would you know about football? Have you ever even played a game? And not just playing around either, a real football game against a real team?? I didnt think so. You said that Dateline made Texas look like a fool by filming Pampa High, or as you would say "We pride ourselves in the sport of football and you choose a town that has a tradition of losing. A town that has gained recognition in nothing much less in football." Well Suzanne in my opinion it's not about winning or loosing. The young men that play for Pampa High School put there heart and sole into playing football. They dont care about who takes the championship. As long as they have the satisfaction of putting everything they have into a game. They try hard and thats more than you could probably say you have done. By the way Suzanne... Back off of Pampa!
