Watch 'Deadly Sanctuary' this Friday on Dateline

Posted: Thursday, February 19, 2009 5:45 PM by Elizabeth Chuck

The life of a pastor is rarely easy or simple. It's a job that requires constant attention to other people's needs: weddings, funerals, illnesses... helping people navigate the emotional and spiritual roller coaster of life is what a pastor does. But the emotional turmoil in our story Friday focuses not just on other people, but on the pastor himself. It was turmoil that would bubble over into something explosive: a murder in his church. The victim? A sweet parishoner, beloved by everyone. Who would want her dead, and why? One of the seven deadly sins may lie at the heart of the mystery. DATELINE Correspondent Keith Morrison goes inside a "Deadly Sanctuary" this Friday at 10 p.m. ET, 9 p.m. CT.

Rhonda Smith died in January 2008.

Make sure to check dateline.msnbc.com for web-exclusive clips and photos related to the case after the program.

And on Dateline this Sunday from 7-9 p.m. ET, catch "Black Box Mystery: The Crash of the Concorde," as well as an update on the fake television producer who scammed people into believing they were trying out for a reality show about models.
