One of the things you may notice tonight as you watch our 11th "To Catch A Predator" investigation is how much more interaction there is between the men and the young woman we've hired to be our onsite decoy. In past investigations the young woman or young man typically invites the potential predator in, chats for a few seconds, and then disappears.

Here in New Jersey, where we've set up in a multi-million dollar home on the beach, our decoy Casey is able to have much longer conversations with the men. This gives us a keen insight into what they plan on doing to a young teen. Usually we mostly rely on the men's online chats with Perverted Justice decoys and while that does give us a graphic look at these guy's intentions, it is really startling to see them engage in the grooming process in real-time.

At the start of each of these investigations I'm never sure what to expect from the onsite decoy. They are usually college students who happen to look younger than they are, who have an interest in the theatre, and see this as a chance to perform and do something worthwhile in the process. All of the ones we've used have been sharp kids and have done a great job for us. Here in New Jersey, though, you'll see tonight Casey's work is extraordinary.

10:12 p.m.
A few months ago, in our Flagler Beach, Fla., investigation, we tried something different: a second location on the beach. Here in New Jersey, thanks to all the hard work of Mitch Wagenberg and his crew, we just about perfected it. It gives us the option of having the decoy invite the guys into a different setting. I wasn't sure it would work out as well as it did. Would the men be nervous about being seen in public with a young girl? What if a beachcomber walked by and spooked him?

As you'll see, it posed no problem at all. Several of our visitors seemed very comfortable in the beach chair. The real challenge was getting good, quality audio on the beach without having the men see a microphone. It's another technological feat. The microphones were hidden in seashells.

10:32 p.m.
I know I have said this before, but each time we do another "To Catch a Predator" investigation, I keep wondering if it's going to be the one where no one shows up. After all, this one is our 11th. We've conducted them in 8 different states now and 286 men have surfaced in the investigation over three years; 256 have been arrested and, as of this writing, 117 men have either pleaded guilty or been found guilty after a trial. You'd think word would get out -- and I suppose it has -- but here on the Jersey shore men are practically lined up at our door.

Many of them -- perhaps a third to a half -- know exactly what they've walked into as soon as they see me. In a few minutes you'll meet Michael Lubrano. He's 25 and comes to our house to meet a girl who told him she was 14. Here's another "To Catch a Predator first."

He brings marijuana and actually has Casey the decoy give it the smell test. Now listen to what he says when I walk out. He knows exactly who I am. In the back of my mind I'm thinking: How could a guy who "religiously" watches our show walk into one of our hidden camera houses? Listen to the compliment he gives me. For those of you who don't know, "Opie and Anthony" is a syndicated morning radio show.

10:44 p.m.
In this investigation we continue to see men from all walks of life and of all ages. Before the New Jersey operation is over we'll meet an engineer, a school bus driver, a former camp counselor, a retired fire fighter and, as you're about to see, a 33-year old Air Force mechanic named Ernest Timmons. He shows up after a sexually explicit conversation with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl. Watch how fast he moves after he comes into our house. I've never seen anything quite like this guy.

He's got his expensive digital camera in hand and ready to go as he tries to hustle Casey upstairs for some quick photos. There's a moment when our decoys tells him she wants to stay downstairs and talk first and that's when I sense he might be ready to take off. As I walk into the room and start to talk to him, he offers up his excuses: a big misunderstanding; a friend sent him.

While sweating profusely, he's sticking to his story. He tells me he's about to be deployed to Iraq. Apparently that's not going to be happening anymore.

Thanks for the series on NJ.  I was wondering how long it would take for you to get there.  By the way, exactly where was this house located?  I used to live there and am curious
i just what to say i think its a great thing what dateline & chris hansen is doing to make these young girls know what kind of people are out there me and my 14 year old girl watch the show she and my 16 old son go on my space my 11 old son does not me and my wife check on them thanks to your show keep up the good work you are saving alot of young girls from very bad things happening to them and they don't even know it till its to late. p.s. what to the guy that had his 5 year son with him wonder what he was to that kid you saved him!!!
Im glad these predators were caught...
Its bad enough one lives a mile from my house...

Sean Hollywood
Why have you not done a follow up on how this effects the families? The wife, children and extended family.
I watched Dateline last night on satellite NBC Detroit.  I was quite surprised that the main - it seemed like only - advertiser was a sex call-in line with sexy young women(not teenagers though) inviting your call.  Seemed a bit inappropriate to me.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF CHRIS HANSEN WILL AIRING HIS
OWN CATCH. HOW EMBARRASSING IS THAT!
I live in Southern Ocean County and I have a two year old daughter. It scares me to think of what it's going to be like when she is 13. Will she be able to use a computer without being a victim? Thank you for your efforts to keep our children safe!
Iwant to know what happened to the Air Force mehanic
Ernest Timmons. Did he get booted out of the airforce? Ya'll show is so funny. I can not believe these men are so stupid. Although here in LA, we got some dumb ones too, they keep meeting at the same park knowing the police have a sting operation going. LOL Thanks for making me laugh. And getting these perverts off the street.
i think it's disgusting to see grown men preying on young children.  i wonder why they can't get a woman their own age? they have issues.
Is there really an epidemic of 13yr olds looking for disgusting sex? I'm not defending these perverts-lock'em up. Why not find a real 13 yr old who is doing this and confront him or her with a decoy pervert. Then track down his or her parents and shame them on TV.
I THINK THAT IT IS VERY GOOD THAT YOU'LL DO THIS THAT WHY YOU CAN CATCH SO OF THESE SICKO'S BEFORE THEY DO SOMETHING VERY BAD TO SOMEONE ELSE CHILD I LOVE WATCHING THEM GO TO JAIL.
Your show on predators should be more wide spread, not by you alone by our law enforcement agencies. More 'stings' such as this would assist in capturing such people for the safety of our neighborhoods. I want to thank you for this great show, and the service that you are providing to wipe this country of deviates.  Thank you!
Chris, you and you're crew are doing a great job catching these dirt bags and taking them off the streets before something seriously happens to young unsupervise curious child.  And i just want to say thanks for understanding and caring that we have to bring this sort of problem to an end .
This was the best one yet!!!
What did you think of Michael Lubrano? Iknow this is not a funny subject, but it was like it was right out of a comedy! How did Chris Hansen keep a straight face? We tivoed it and think that Lubrano is SO funny. I wonder what happened to him.
As a mother of a soon to be teenager, I am so glad you are doing these reports.  Even as a mother it was all just too hard for me to believe that it this big of a problem, but your reporting shows how these guys are truly predatory!  And they're so guy-next-door, guy-you-work-with types! Please keep doing the good work you are doing!
Dear Mr. Hansen,
Thank you for continuing the series "To Catch a Predator". As a mother of 23yo & 7yo daughters & a 20yo son, this has been a concern of mine with the internet usage that our young children have access to. Our children's innocence is being taken advantage of by the "sick" adults in this world. I applaude your efforts & that of your team of investigators for the work you have done. I imagine that this is not easy for any of you, especially the ones with children of their own.
I enjoy watching your interaction with these predators & the disbelief in your comments to them. Keep up the hard work, your efforts are not unnoticed & very much appreciated!
You should take it a step further.  Once the predator is seated comfortable, the decoy should have a change of mind. Have the decoy ask the predator to please leave because she changed her mind. This would determine which predators  are violent or would try to force the issue.
When are you going to investigate the san francisco, san jose bay area?  It is common thought that if a young girl engages in any form of communication then it is legally and morally OK to proceed.  That is the thought process here in the bay area.
ENTRAPMENT!  You are ruining lives of people who are baited into showing up.  You initiate sex talk with these so called "predators", to encourage them to show up.  You press the sexual talk to entice these individuals to continue the conversation.  You expose people who have made a mistake, and now have no chance to recover because of the exposure.  You are a fraud and you and perverted justice are the actual predators.
I think what dateline is doing in catching online preditors is a wonderful thing. The number's have shown that the arrests rates on thes people have risen making it a little more safer for our children to be on the internet. I would love to be involved in this myself. Keep up the great job.
Again, this was a great story, and the format on the beach was neat as it put the predators at ease.  It was a great idea to hide the microphones in sea shells.  Way to go.  Keep on doing what you're doing.  I look forward to your next series re financial transaction fraud.

Thanks, Chris Hansen and Dateline
Mr. Hansen, I just wanted to say THANK YOU for doing this. I am so grateful. I have been affected by this perverted behavior personally and it means a lot to me that you are doing this. Please don't ever stop. Keep getting creative. You and your team are doing an awesome job and it means a lot to myself and I'm sure others too.
Chris man i think its good what ure doing, this show has brought alot of criminals into the light so they can be caught, but just to let you know i think you should keep using the good looking decoys like Casey i think she really reels in alot of the guys but as i said your doing a good thing with this show and catching the predators:)
Chris,
I applaud you on your work and I hope you get more predators off the street. Here a website that is worse than yahoo chat and myspace combined. Its called crushspot. I'm 23 and I get comments from men in their 40's. I've seen some stuff on that site that would shock most parents. Kids as young as 12 can chat freely with men in there 40's and they show the most provocative pictures.
CHRIS,
I LOVE THE SHOW AND WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAVE FOR SALE THE SERIES OF ALL THE "TO CATCH A PREDATOR." I HAVE ONLY SEEN THE LAST TWO AND CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MANY GUYS YOU GET. ITS SHOCKING! WHEN IS THE NEXT SHOW ALSO, I WISH IT WAS A WEEKLY SHOW EVERYONE I KNOW LOVES IT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
I'm not saying ya'll should stop ripping on the older guy stalkers, but you guys should definitely start busting the other types too... it's important to make the public aware of all types of predators, and just because you're not a teenage girl, it doesn't mean you're invulerable to that kind of stuff... but it goes the other way too... i've seen my fair share of daytime TV where you got this 16 year-old that is with a 48 year-old. The girl that's 16 claims that see's either deeply in love or doesn't think guys her age are "mature" enough... OK... 1: That doesn't change the fact that it's pretty disgusting, 2: If she honesly thinks she'll compensate for a lack of maturity by seeing a MUCH older guy, then she's got some growing up to do herself, and 3: That still doesn't change the fact that it's pretty disgusting... need I say more?
To Catch A Predator with Chris, is the best show on television when it is on. I personally would like to see them setup in Washington,D.C., to see what turns up there.
Chris.-
You are amaizing... keep on going. You are awesome  I watch the show all the time. I died laughing because of the rediculous things they say when they get caught..Keep up the good work. I even watch the show with my older kids, they dont like to miss either..GOD Bless you and your team.
just thought i'd say, "you folks are doing a good thing" keep up yhe good work.  Father of two girls.
Keep up the good work Chris. Hope there are more shows in the future, this is a great way of scaring off these sick individuals, and will make them think before they act hopefully. Do you have more shows on the horizon and does perverted justice ever actually encounter female online predators, that could be a whole new show. but nontheless keep it up, you and our law enforcment community pose a great threat to these perverts
You should make T-shirts that say Well Im Chris Hansen from Datline NBC. you would make a killing!
As I read down these comments from people, I find that the really disturbing ones are from people critisizing the program.  All I can think of are predators trying to wage a comprehensive war of the words against something that truly has the moral high ground.  In cases that endanger children, who really should be allowed to be innocent as long as possible in this world, I whole heartedly agree that public shame and humiliation should be the way to go.  This is the modern equivalent of throwing rotten fruit at someone in the stockades, but with out the cruel or unusual aspect.  Chris Hansen gets my utmost respect, because he's giving these guys a verbal punch to the teeth.  Also, to people who say, "why don't you go after women.."  Well, they don't go after anyone in particular, the MEN, choose the decoys.
I EALLY THINK THIS SHOW IS A WATE OF TIME. I STILL DONT THINK IS RIGHT PUT SOME CANDY IN FRONT OF A BADY AND FOR A MINUTE THINK HES NOT GOING TO TOUCH IT . COME ON WERE BETTER OFF WORRING ABOUT THINGS IN OUR SCHOOLS IN STEAD WE WORRY ON HOW TOOK MY I POD AND WERES MY ID GONE TO . COME ON CRIS DO SOME INVESTIGATED WORK FOR ONCE IN YOURE LIFE . THATS HOW PEOPLE NOW YOU THE PREDETIR GUY .
I think this is a wonderful thing.  I know it's a major expense to set up an operation like this, but I'm certian that you could do this every single day and catch people each time.  The prevalence of adults who prey on children is astonishing. The most astonishing aspect of this investigation is that it is not a deterrent.  So many of these suspects indicated that they've seen the show and are aware their actions are being televised.

I would love to see such an operation established in every major city every day. I'm sure you could get plenty of volunteers of time and money to assist this effort, as most people despise child molestors.
I cannot thank you enough for exposing the truth about the dangers of society and "unsupervised internet" access for our children. God only knows how many young lives you have saved! Every time I watch To Catch a Predator I am reminded of the cold hard reality of what if this wasn't a sting operation!? I have allowed both my 11 and 12 yr. old children to watch your show with me and it finally revealed the reality of how dangerous the internet can be for them-they thought I was just being overprotective, but they both were in a reality check after viewing your program. God bless you all for what you are exposing and ultimately protecting-America's innocence! And God bless Perverted Justice for their dedication and service to others!
Hi chris

I started got this ad from united nation in Nigeria. The ask for my ID , passport, ect.... I think these group is those person you need to let people be aware of. Thanks
Hi chris

you should come to Texas,in Cameron County which has some and I would love to see them being caught.
make more shows they are cool
By your own admission, you are having no impact on this serious problem:

"I know I have said this before, but each time we do another "To Catch a Predator" investigation, I keep wondering if it's going to be the one where no one shows up. After all, this one is our 11th. We've conducted them in 8 different states now and 286 men have surfaced in the investigation over three years; 256 have been arrested and, as of this writing, 117 men have either pleaded guilty or been found guilty after a trial. You'd think word would get out -- and I suppose it has -- but here on the Jersey shore men are practically lined up at our door." --Chris Hansen

That, coupled with the disturbing allegations made by Ms. Bartel and the prurient tone your series has taken, are enough to make me seriously question your ethics and the ethics of NBC as a news organization. Shame on those who show up AND you. I've stopped watching your spectacle, should your sponsors care.
Hey Chris,

Love the shows.  I can't believe that men always keep coming over even though they've seen the show and know who you are!  Well keep up the good work, I'll keep watching the show.

p.s.
how come you never catch online female preditors?
I have no compassion for "sexually ill" people who prey on our youth. The police departments thank you Chris, and so does ever parent trying to raise a teen in this day and age. If it drives perverts underground thats where they belong.
Nancy
I think your show is great! I know all people would be glad you are getting people like that off the streets if it were their kids the predators were after.I'm just glad there is someone out there that cares & I know I would enjoy it for everyone predator I put behind bars.. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK....
Hey I love this show!  When are you guys gonna do another????
This has to be some sort of sickness or addiction. The fact these men keep showing up despite all the publicity and media attention this crime gets just proves these men have a behavioral problem they obviously cannot control. Do you think it would benefit these men to try and get them help, instead of treating them as any other criminal like a thief or killer.
i like this show and watch it almost everday wen its on. i think its so good what uyou do. people r crazy for showing up at a house where they think theres a teen waiting for them. the craziest show was when that one guy came into the house naked that is just wrong how could he do that and feel comfertible walking into a teens house naked-it makes me sick. keep up the good work.
mr.hansen  have you heard of "E-Lottery" from the UK they said i have won in the web internet lottery, they want me to western union over a 1,000.00 in order to have my winning's tranfered into my acount, i have 5 bussiness to complete this, i told the director of the bank in UK i didnt have the money he said i have to come up with 600.00 and he would do the rest then i would pay him back plus a bonus when i receive the winnings of 4,169,652.00 pounds. He said that e-lottery receives e-mail addresses from ya-hoo, msn and different provider's. I called my service and they said that my information was not released. What should i do?
I like and aprove the show but, what bothers me is when guys have condoms on them you call them guilty.

When I was in the 5th grade we had sex-ed. We were told as males to carry on person at all times condoms. I thought it wasa funny then but it makes since today for guys to carry condoms on them. So why is it a bad thing to carry that on person? Like I said I like the show keep up the good work
I think Chris Hensen does a super job handling these perverts.  Just think if this program was not aired how many young girls underage would become victums.  isn't amazing how these guys feel they can get by with it and what is so sad and disgusting is that most are married men with families.  Think what this does to them not to mention they also will have to suffer.  No man is an island what you do does affect your family and ruins your reputation for life.
