New Jersey 'Predator' full of firsts

Our 11th computer predator investigation takes place in a multi-million dollar home on the beautiful shoreline of New Jersey. It's a picture perfect vacation spot for parents and children -- and for potential predators as well.

This particular investigation is full of firsts. We have had decoys in our hidden camera homes in previous operations greet and chat in person with our visitors, but this is the first time we were set up to capture such extensive interaction between the two. As you'll see, our onsite decoy Casey looks a lot younger than her 18 years, but don't be fooled.

She was exceptional when it came to making conversation with almost every one of the 28 men who came to our house. What makes this so revealing is that we not only see the potential predator engage in the grooming process in his online chat, we also see it in real time.

We have two separate places where the men can be greeted. One is inside the house in the family room and one is on the beach, with the roar of the ocean in the background. It's stunning to watch, as some of these men feel so comfortable sitting across from Casey in a beach chair explaining to her in person what they want to do to her sexually. A 53-year-old man named Eugene tells Casey, "You just relax. And I'll take care of everything, okay?" Then he says: "Just be your self. I'll just try to explain as I go. Tell me if you enjoy it." Of course he's not so explicit when I walk out.

In each of our recent investigations we've found men who have seen or heard about our "To Catch a Predator" shows and surprisingly, still show up to meet a young teen. I've gotten used to the fact that this will happen, but I have never seen anything like what happened in New Jersey.

There was actually one guy who came in and instantly recognized me. He told me that he was a religious "To Catch a Predator" viewer and that he never missed an episode. Before I could formulate my next question, he volunteered that he had heard me on a syndicated radio program and complimented me for doing a good job.

Once again we see men of all ages and from all walks of life, including a military man who seemed to be in a hurry. He comes running in with an expensive digital camera and tries to get our decoy to hustle upstairs.

Instead, he encounters me. Watch as his story changes and his situation goes from bad to worse in what is one of the most compelling "To Catch a Predator" shows we've ever put together.

"To Catch a Predator" airs on Wednesday, July 18 and Wednesday, July 25 at 10 p.m.

chris, really nice work.  I only hope that eventual lower t.v. ratings  won't discontinue your investigations.  I believe most offenders know of your show and I would guess that you have saved countless occurences from happening.  Please keep up the good work.
I love the show "To Catch A Predator". But I also wonder if these men have criminal records that may also shine some light on their behavior.  Another flip of the show maybe to consider, men who might take this as gender bias... Why not do a show to also feature women who prey on young men.  I have seen many women who are high school teachers in the news found guilty of preying on underage boys.  Is this sort of format show just good for catching men or are women all angels to this sort of thing? Ummm, I wonder... Not.  When I was in high school (20 years a go) a female teacher who I offered to help with her groceries in a store parking lot, offered to give me a ride home, I accepted the ride but once we got to my house, she said she wanted to have sex with me.  She said her husband was on drugs and she just hadn't did it in a long time. I was all for it but she changed her mind after we later got a hotel room.  Although, she seemed really nice she's just as guilty as the men you have featured on your show.

As a senior in high school, I had a job as a pizza delivery driver and I can't count the number of older women who I have had sex with. I don't know why but they would come to the door half nacked.  Needless to say the pizza was on the house. ;)

Let me start by thanking Date Line for the coverage about on line predators. I pray that our society will help these people that are in dire need of it. Chris is putting himself, in what could be, harmes way. He is very good at what he dose. Again thank you for these stories.
When you going to do a show helping the children that have met older persons for sex? and why they do this at such a young age. Oh i'll guess the people seeking this type of attention isn't what your show would like to help. Your rating's are based on a public anger issue and not geared on helping the poor children doing this action for real.
Thank you for doing these investigations.  It is such important work that needs to be done.  It is amazing how many people don't think seducing a teen is wrong, never mind illegal.  Psychological experts are now saying that peoples brains don't fully develop until they are 26, perhaps the laws should be extended until then.  In addition, there are many innocent people that would never dream of manipulating for sex; therefore, those people get taken advantage of all the time.  Isn't seduction just another form of manipulation? Therefore, seducing an innocent adult is a form of rape, too.  Please keep up the great work, it is very informative.
Dateline NBC great job catching Child Predators.  I can't believe a judge would even allow a case to be bought against NBC because a lawyer who knew what was going to happen killed himself.  It is tragic that he killed himself only because he did not have to face justice.  I hope you drag the people who would condone such a man through the mud.
I am a deetive for a small agency. Even in my jurisdiction we have had cases of similar circumstances. I would like to get something to share with my D.A.R.E. students and help our small community, with such limited resources have odds more in our favor as law enforcement officers and community members
What you're showing is the same type of low-mentality people doing essentially the same things over and over; different faces, same story.

The other side of the story is very young men who get involved with minors (1) without knowing they're minors, and (2) without being aware of the impact of age from a legal standpoint.  These unfortunate young men get caught in the same legal net, even though they are one-time, unintentional, naive violators--who are put on the same registries and made to suffer the same penalties and indignities as genuine predators, perverts, and pedophiles.  None of this makes a juicy story, so I'm sure you'll never address it, but it is another type of tragedy related to your series.  It's too bad we use such a broad brush as we rush to judgment and more or less permanently categorize people, and systematically ruin their lives.  But as I say, this is an element that I'm sure will never be addressed, because it's not sensational enough.  It's the other side of the coin, so to speak, for those who are capable of seeing a different side.
Chris Hansen is seriously my hero, it's been awhile since I have been impressed with someone or such a great show. This was the best idea anybody could have ever had.
I just wanted to say that I have seen every investigation aired and not once have I felt sorry for the predators except for part one of the New Jersey investigation for the African American personal trainer. I wish him well after serving his punishment for his unjustifiable acts.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.  You are doing a great job of trying to keep our young people safe.  I believe these men think they're above the law but they have a rude awakening, don't they?  I applaude all your efforts....keep up the good work!!
Congratulations! Dateline has the visibility to bring a very hushed but extremely frequent crime to light. I am the mother of four children. One daughter and a set of triplets. I had to educate my children about strangers and abduction but the challenge was making the lesson memorable without the nightmares or my husband and I would have four little kids in our bed for weeks. after looking into all the available information which was poor I decided to write a book. It is based on an experience I had as a child.
I wanted to create a tool that would be remembered so I  wrote it in  rhyme . It's about a girl that was walking to  school on a bright sunny day when a car pulled up and a man yelled HEY! I turned  to see if it was someone I knew when he said your mommy's looking for you. I turned on my heels and started to run then he yelled Hey Kensie, it will be fun. i stopped in my tracks because he knew my name , then I remembered it was my pack to blame. Because on my pack was a no no, it was my name.... to make a long story short, I sent it to many publisher and almost all were returned unopened. They did not except unsolicited manuscripts.
The only two that was opened was rejected stating that the topic was to controversial and that was not a direction they choose to go. Every time I hear of a child that has been abducted, sexually abused or  gone missing I think of the book and how the rhyme might of made a difference . Kids never forget songs, poems and rhymes. If you can teach a child  a life's lesson without frightening them, you have a really good chance the information stored and called up when it counts.
If you look at the information available to parents, nothing is created that is a learning tool for the child.
I need help publishing this book. You at Dateline are not afraid of controversy. With your help the lesson could be taught without the fear.  If it can save one kid. it's a smashing success.
It is my hope  you don't turn the other cheek yet confront  my situation head on and-help make a difference.
I've watched several of your investigations and each time I've been left nearly speechless. The ease with which you are able to lure in these individuals illustrates how pervasive this predatory behavior has become in our society. How many did you miss? Your program should serve as a wake up call to parents to monitor and limit their children's internet activity. These words of the the apostle Peter came to my mind after watching your program, "Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (I Peter 5:8).
I thank God for Mr. Hanson having the fortitude and courage to step up and combat such an extreme and devestating problem happening to our innocent children. I can only imagine the number of children that would have been tormented for life or even dead if it had not been for "To Catch A Predator". Dateline has a history of exposing deceipt and crimes. I LOOOOVE Dateline !
these freaks of life are everywhere, and all the children in the world should be watching ur show. i would like to participate in this search for these perverts. please let me know how to do this so i can help take another one of these men to jail.  this just makes me fear more seeing this is acting. please never stop this show. u r appreciated
I think this is a great thing that is being done.  These guys need to be found before the hurt someone or someone  else.  The only thing I think that would be as good was possibly following someone and reporting on what they are doing to get help with their problem and watch their progress.
To catch a predator is very important. I think another kind of predator would make a great investigation. Promises of acting and modeling opportunities are irresistable to many young girls.  My daughter was approached, via her webste by such a person.  I told her to say, "Not interested, don't contact me again." But what of others who are fooled by these guys?  How do you know their real intentions?  A show like yous could go along way into exposing these scams or worse.  The internet has become a scary place.  So many predators to watch out for.  Keep up your amazing work.
I think that children should be protected and you are doing the most positive thing toward the protection and safety of children and that is number 1 to me! I appreciate the other types of reports you do on other types of predators.  This idea is tasteful and justice is done before someone else is hurt.  This is the best humanitarian thing you are doing for society as a whole.  There are many people in this world who just don't think or have a conscience until something happens to them, do they think.  And still it is about themselves and no one else.  Well, in jail they will have plenty of time to repent if they are truly remorseful.  Thank you for your great work and for the information you give.  I would love to be a part of your support.

Sincerely,

CW
I have to say that I don't think exposing these men in this way is the answer... Men have sexual urges, it is part of their genetic make-up. I'm sure in the days of primates, many men would have sex with younger women, this isn't some new thing that is happening just because of the internet. The problem is way deeper; to just embarass and expose these men is no solution. It should start from people talking in safe environments about the issues that no one likes to talk about. Why not do an episode which helps to inform people about their own sexual urges so that they can deal with them and not feel like there is something wrong inside of them. They are people too... this seems to promote the idea that sex, and sexual urges are wrong, which only serves to make people feel more disillusioned and thus makes them lash out in more violent and estranged ways. I think what you are doing is actually helping to make the problem worse. Why not go after the people responsible for marketing teenage girls as sex objects as well? You are focussing on only one part of a problem, which I think makes your arguments weak and therefore only for entertainment(and ratings... c'mon be honest). Stop promoting fear and start offering real solutions... the dateline I used to watch was a lot more intelligent than COPS... now I don't know...
I think what you are doing is wonderful, but I am very disgusted that these preditors male and female get out and back in public. Just like one of your stories he gets out and is caught again by dateline. This is a very dangerous profession for this preditors and why should our children pay the ultimate price. Just like the young girl age 12 in Wa. that was killed on the fourth of july, that guy had a record. There really should be a safe house a lock down unit. or house that these criminals are kept and never, never let back out in public. Some say it cost too much money not enough staff to watch. but how much is a funeral and the pain the child and families go through? so a few million dollars is nothing to keep our families safe. Just add up all the money spent on funeral and see how much it is. That could have bought and kept up a safe house. Personally  I would just kill the person myself and end up in jail for murder. I have already told my family and kids if anyone ever tries to hurt them they have my permission to do anything! they need to do to protect themself, even killing the preditor. I thought we lived in a nice neighborhood until last week some guy tried to grab an eight year old down the street. He was never caught and hasn
t been seen since, he just moves around to different neighborhoods. I know that I am talking too much but this is a serious serious issue and the government really needs to do something, number one DO NOT LET THEM OUT TO DO IT AGAIN.  Boy get a clue they are NOT reabilitatable.  thanks again and I always talk to my children ages 10.11 and 18. and when I talk I don't leave out any details. my daughter is always saying yuck mom. But that's life. you get abducted you get terrible things done to you and then you die. And then your mom goes to jail for murder. I would do anything to protect my children , too bad the government and judiscal system won't. Thanks for listening. Keep up the good work.

I am just overjoyed about this series.  I wish you guys would never stop.  These people just keep appearing and I think it is absolutely wonderful that someone is putting a stop to it.  Hopefully it is deterring others from attempting to meet with children.  I'm so glad justice is being served.  This show is wonderful and I just wish that it could go on forever and continue to stop these horrible criminals so that children everywhere can be protected.  Thank you all at MSNBC and especially Chris Hansen, Perverted Justice, and all law enforment officials for putting an end to this vicious and disgusting crime.
Are there any "women predators" out there?
I would like to know what would happen if a sixteen year old was poising as a thirty five year old man and came to the house where you are having a sting oparation? Would he be charged with a crime?
Where is the women getting busted?
I'm irritated. I've been molested from the time i was 4 or 5 (i don't remember the exact age), until i was 12. I understand predators. What bothers me is that you're catching a predator and not talking about the victim (and I'm not sure what we victims are to be called, because we don't get the voice...those bleeping predators do! Come on. Why do we focus on the predator and not those who can voice to them how offensive their actions are. They continnually say, "I didn't want to get into trouble". Sensationalism in my opinion. Let's tell the truth! Sex Sells! And that's what you are doing. When telling the truth, and talking about the aftermath of molestation or rape, you tell the truth of what women go through for YEARS! after that fatal day. Or for me, fatal years. Let's come clean...men are still in the focus...by being the obusers. I want honesty from now on.
Thank you so much for doing this.  Hopefully shows like this scare would-be sex-offenders into getting therapy instead of potentially ruining some kid's life.  I hope for many more shows, more predators caught, and a safer country.  Thank you.
Tonight 2 of these men really got to me. One asking when he would be on tv so he, his friends and family could see him. The other asking for a ride him. How lame can you get?
Dear NBC,
My boyfriend and I watch to catch a predator every time its on...Its a great way to catch these slime balls and put them away. Well my boyfriend and I were discussing the episode on 07/18/07 and we were wondering why you dont ever reverse the roles and catch the females out there that are taking advantage of younger boys as well as girls. Its happend many time already in the media that a teacher or what not is caught for having sex with a young boy...why not set up a episode with the females being caught for taking advantage of young boys and girls?>???
To Chris Hanson
I have so much respect for your "To Catch a predator" series.  I recently watched your most recent episode in NJ.  I saw one of those dirt bags on your show and it was explained that he was in the USAF(United States Air force) .  Is there anyway your show could not identify these dirt bags as military members.  I am a veteran of the USAF and during my service I met many outstanding men and women who dedicate their lives to service of this country and I hate to see one idiot soil the oaths, honor and integrity that goes along with military service.  I know my request will not affect any change I only want you and others to know that the criminals depicted on your show do not in any way represent the honorable men and women who serve this country every day.  If your show would even put a disclaimer in stating this fact it would mean the world to me and thousands of service men and women around the world.  I think your doing a wonderful job and can only say to you, keep up the good work and keep bringing down these predators who want to hurt children.  Thank you Mr. Hanson

                                                                             Kevin Feaver
I just wanted to say thank-you for all of the men you are getting off of our streets through your program. It's about time we get to see these sexual preditors getting caught and their faces aired on national T.V. I wish it could be done in my area to expose the many preditors that live in my area.
I Support Chris Hanson, take the SEXAL PREDATORS off the STREET
I am so glad that Chris Hansen and the NBC Dateline team broadcast this program in real life and real time showing sexual predators at work and the consequences to them and to possibly our youth.  This is a disturbing problem but with programs such as yours we can see how this comes into play and that those that choose to hurt our youth can be exposed and jailed.  Our parents and those whom the predators prey upon need to see that this can and will happen unless we are educated.  My hats off to the team that put this program together and to all those that watched and voiced their opinions.  We can't close our eyes and pretend it doesn't happen.  We need to educated our youth and the adults that are responsible that our children are as safe as they can possibly be by protecting themselves as well.  Knowledge is always the best tool we have.  Thank You so much we need this type of programing that reaches so many people.  You have my support and I'm sure for many other people our sincere thanks for this program.
It is quit obvious you know how to catch a predator
to the point it is sick.  I have noticed most that you have caught have seen your show on TV . Maybe it is time to help those who watch your show and feel they might become one of these predators.  At the end of the show you need to set up a help line for the one’s that are sick and need help these people are reaching out for help, just think how many others are out there watching your show you are not catching that you could be helping please put up a help line then you could brag about how many you have taken off the street before the crime has been committed doesn’t this make sense.
I watched your show for the 1st time tonight(July 18th2007) and at first I thought Yeah! alright this is a great way to catch these perverted people but as I continued to watch I felt their was something wrong with how you are actually luring these men.

Many people have weaknesses, we all do!
Your decoy was too accommodating and inviting.
Too many times you decoys were bring up sex 1st. Why? How many 12 and 13 year olds talk this way?

Pedifile's intiate sex into the conversation...and when they do I would think they are alot more cunning than this.

Like a potential thief will steal if the temtation is in front of him, you are dangling a temtation infront of these sick people. Some people will act on their urges and others will not.
It makes me wonder "WHO IS THE PREDATOR"
I am not sure this is a progam that should be encouraged, don't get me wrong I am all for getting the scum off the earth but something about it is wrong!

I LOVE the "Predator" series and never miss it! And I LOVE Chris Hansen and the work he is doing. Keep up the great work!
Once again, I'm completely stunned. I watched this with my 15 year old daughter, and this was the first time I let her see the show.

It always amazes me, and I wonder how many children these men may have assaulted previously, before they came to be on To Catch a Predator

I was thinking it would be really cool to do a special version of the show aimed at kids, telling them about the predators, like why and how they groom kids, and what to look out for. You could tell the kids about laws that were designed to protect them, etc. etc., maybe the psychology behind predation, and why it really is predation and not just some lonely soul or whatever. You could use footage from some of your investigations, to show and really make a point about how the weird people on the Internet are not just "out there somewhere" but they're real, and some are willing to drive for miles to take advantage of a defenseless child.

That's the trouble: I don't want to let my kids see your show because it's so explicit, but they really need to see some form of it, to really get the idea that it's a REAL problem. So I think it would be very useful to do a special, perhaps even something special enough to be shown in schools, maybe aimed at Middle School aged kids (7th & 8th graders).
I think the series is awesome ( to catch a predator ) and good job to you for trying to get filth of the streets and keep children safe. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A MALE DECOY USED TO SEE JUST HOW MANY WOMEN WOULD BE CAUGHT IN THE ACT. There are so many stories of girls being protected but what about the underage boys being threatened by women. Thanks
I just watched this episode and im amazed! I mean i've watched "To catch a predator" like maybe 2 times and i still can't believe that the men who also watched "TCAP", make the ultimate mistake by still going to the house to meet with a under age girl. Once caught, their stories start to change when Chris questions them. Chris Hansen is clearly my favorite reporter. I hope that this show keeps going, long enough to catch more predators and help keep our neighbor hoods safe from these predators. Great work to Chris Hansen, t.v crew, decoys and to law enforcemnet. You guys should come to the bay area.
I applaud Dateline and Perverted Justice for nailing these creeps. As a mother and grandmother I'm sick of reading about children falling prey to this or any other harm against children. I wish NBC the best in their legal problems.
Thank you so much for showing this program I have'nt miss any of them and I pray you continue to keep showing it I hope you go to every stste and do the show what I don't understand is I'm on several web site trying to find a man and I can't because i guess they rather date a child they all need help bad I'm shock at the man that said when can I see my self on T.V another question what web site are you going on cause I have to girls and I dont want them and tell Mr. Hansen keep up the good work.
Chris,
Thank you for your work and the staff of Perverted Justice! Heard you will be 'vigorously' fighting the 100M suit filed by the sister of the late prosecutor Conrad...Please do and Thank you for having the guts to pull these vermin out of the woodworks!  If Conrad wasn't guilty then wouldn't have pulled the suicide trigger at the first sign of Police presence at his home with no questions asked!
I watched your show for the first time and was in shock with how dense some of the predators really were.  Some of them really sickened me.
I applaud any efforts in catching predators, they do not deserve a chance to corrupt any child.  I especially applaud Casey in the scary situations she had to endure, but all for a great purpose.
Thank you to those who make any efforts in ridding us of those who harm children.
I saw a news report about a potential lawwsuit being filed against NBC for one of the suspected preditors who had committed suicide when the police officers were moving in to arrest him.  I watched that episode and not once did I see any thing that was claimed by the man's family.  I think that Dateline is bringing awareness to millions of families with young teens of the dangers of just chatting on the net.  Please fight this lawsuit and please don't stop.  You are the only station that has put these preditors in the front of people's minds.  Thank you so very much for all that you do.
Dear Chris Hansen
Thank you so much for bringing these predators to justice. I am glad you are on our side. I have a 13 and 10 year old and I am nauseous when I hear the chat logs. I could not imagine my children being taught such vulgar things. One is interested in cell phones and friends and the other one is legos and lizards. Thanks Chris for keeping our children safe.
Chris, keep up the good work keeping our children safe!
I am a 29 year old man who will soon be getting married and taking on some of responsibility of a 9 year old
stepson.  It's great to know someone is on the prowl for these predators.  Also compliment your staff on their excellent work.  Also, for one of your future shows the Indianapolis area (specifically the east side of Indianapolis, Indiana) seems to have a high concentration of sex offenders according the state
registry.  Thanks for all of your hard work!

Sincerely,

Eric Hamm
I think this show is just awesome getting the pervs off the streets you are doing a great . I watch it all the time and love Chris Hansen he does a great job . I wish there were more things like this to get the oervs off the street and believe that the punishment should fit the crime to take advantage of a child is devasting to them for the rest of their life  take it from some one who was taken advantage of as a child by her own father  . If I could help get these guys off the street I would totally do it  .
We need you in Mississippi

Keep up the great work to all who is involved
what happened with the second man david russell he works at the same place i do and would like to know  what or if chris handson  even got a chance to talk to him
he is still at work i guess he is out on bail .
I really like the show I just can't believe how stupid men are.  My question is there must be kids out there who are talking on line meeting these men and having sex.  So when you catch these men can  you dig deeper into the web sites and alert parents on what there children are doing.  Because as long as there are young kids out there willing to meet these men knowing they are much older they men will not stop.  Parents need to be worn to monitor, talk too, or what ever it takes to stop the men and their children.
Just simply the best, Keep up the good work. I am an ex police officer and a father of three. One is a 16 year old girl when she started IMing she was 14, quickly she discovered a lot of people need help. If your team wanted to come to my neighborhood and use my house I would be happy to assist, although I don’t have a million dollar home, I am in an area that needs the help.. please contact me.
Q: what is out there to help these people?
Q: could you show some closed case, like re-interviews
I was floored by what I was seeing on your show lastnight. I have 2 young teenage children at home, and this was very frightening to see just how many grown men were coming up to this house. Have you done any stories on the women predators out there ?
This just made me so sick to my stomach. How can anyone view a child in that way and think it's ok.
