8:03 p.m.
Usually when two potential predators arrive at close to the same time, I try to move quickly through the first interview so that we are ready for the second. But here in Flagler Beach, you’re about to see something I’ve not done before. Two men show up so close to each other I have no choice but to conduct the interviews at the same time. Watch as I introduce the two men to each other and see if you can figure out which one has seen our previous Dateline investigations.

8:15 p.m.
This being our 10th investigation, we figure that some of the men, perhaps even the majority of them here have seen our previous shows and maybe anxious about actually walking into a house. So we are prepared when the men set up a second meeting location across the street at the beach. The police are under the boardwalk and hidden cameras are set up in and around a beached sailboat. In a moment you’ll see how it all works out.

8:34 p.m.
Sometimes Perverted-Justice decoys talk online with potential predators for weeks about a sexual liaison -- and still the man never shows up. You’re about to meet a guy who we thought was going to do just that: 41-year-old Todd Spikes engaged in an explicit online chat with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl. His intent seems pretty clear as much of his chat is unfit to print or put on TV. It’s Sunday night and we worked very late the night before.  The whole team is beat. I ask Frag of Perverted Justice if he thinks Spikes is going to show up. Frag says Spikes hasn’t communicated with the decoy for hours. We decide he’s probably a no-show and break down for the night. Man, were we wrong.

8:51 p.m.
Minutes after we arrive at the hotel, the decoy gets a call. It’s Spikes and he’s in Flagler beach after what we figure is more than a 5-hour drive from his home in northern Florida. It turns our Spikes is a cop from a small town in southern Alabama. In spite of having three cell phones in his car, he uses a pay phone to call. There’s no way to get everybody in position back in the house and it turns out that may have been a good thing. The police pull him over. Wait until you see what he had stashed in his car: 800 rounds of ammo, an assault rifle, three bullet proof vests and camera equipment. He also had a pistol in his pocket. In a moment you’ll see what he has to say for himself.

8:55 p.m.
You've heard a lot from these men in their own words--- next week, I'll let you know what I was thinking while all this was happening in my own words.  We’ll answer some of your e-mails and blog posts, and we'll tell you who's been convicted and how long they'll be behind bars.

How come we only see the male predators? Were/are there no females who are in the chat rooms trolling?
I love this show...You go Chrisssssssss!!!!!!
I believe that you are doing the right thing in trying to catch "Dogs", but what DatLine is doing is intraptment which is illegal. The decoy is obviously overage so no law was broken.
Chris, You would think these people would get a clue however honestly you and NBC need to continue doing this kind of program. To the people that say it's on to early they can just hush....this kind of stuff needs to be put out in the public it's important we can't run from this kind of stuff. People are so scared what there kids will think if they see this kind of stuff, ever think if they see this stuff they will know what to not do and what is not proper to do? Keep up the good work Chris I think you and all the police departments are doing excellent things and using everything you have to stop these guys from doing things to people. I was the victim as a child and know what this is like it destroyed you.
This is a great show but the only thing i want to know why do you all not do it the other way arround and a woman pose and a litte boy as the decoy
Hey I wonder if they ever catch a woman? They should get some young stud....Lets see if the lasdies would crack as fast and as frequently as the men do? This show is the best show ever...WAKE UP AMERICA these freaks are out there!!!
I absolutely love the job that Dateline is doing in catching these predators. How does a qualified person go about working for Perverted Justice? Please keep up the great work!
"To Catch a Predator" is absolutley sickening. You shameless hypocrites are exploiting sex crimes and the fear of them to get ratings and make big money all in the name of "protecting our children". You subject people who have not yet had the benefit of a fair trial to public humiliation, a form of punishment. The legitamate news media investigates stories and reports facts, it does not try and punish "criminals". You have stooped to the lowest level of pandering hack journalism. You have aligned yourselves with Perverted Justice, an aptly named (they are in the buisiness of perverting justice) vigilante group who have been denounced by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. You are the true predators; you prey on people's fears, and on their thirst for eighteous indignation and the spectacle of human suffering. You are disgusting.
I have watched your program almost from the start. As a grandmother with young grandchildren, I apprciate the warning this should send to all parents and children. Each time I see this I think about the wives, girlfriends, children, parents and the way thier lives have been impacted by the stupid, illegal and selfish act by these men. I would like to see a program about the changes in the families' lives after the shows. Thank you for the hard work.
To the person who said that "this is an invasion of privacy", I say that these men lose their rights to privacy when they prey on minors! I'm so glad they're being caught. I'm disgusted at the intentions of these men. They deserve to get caught and they deserve worse AND they know the trouble they could get into.
"To Catch A Predator" is a great series and chris hansen is so awesome the way he talks to these distusting pigs. The only thing that could make this show better is a pistol whipping. Not a misdemeanor slap on the wrist, but A good old fashioned beat down or possibly a bullet to the head!
It is great what you doing, what you should try also is to have decoy "predator"...kids under age shouldn't have been able to have sex conversation over the internet, but that where parents and school should step in....just a thought...
As a parent I think this show is wonderful. And working for the judicial system of this country and with criminals on a daily basis, I can tell you that this is not the most shocking thing that I have seen. There are more horrific offenders out there that aren't getting caught. Thank you Chris for doing your part to catch the ones you can any chance you get! Keep doing an awesome job!!! And for all of you people who complain "enough already", you must not have children or don't want to see the sick people you share the world with. If you are tired of it, just don't watch. There are plenty of us out here who want to watch.
I'm a bit concerned about anyone who thinks this show is "an invasion of privacy". I'm all for privacy but Dateline is definitely doing a fantastic job! and guess what! as many times as they've aired these shows, you'd think everyone would have seen them. These men are not only STUPID but dangerous and this should tell anyone who disagrees with these shows that there's definitely a need to stop these animals from preying on young children.
I think this is a great show and both my son and daughter watch this show becaus as it is verry clear that the danger is not just to my daughter but also my son. Thanks to this show i know that both my kids are more careful.
Al, I've also wondered if there have been any female predators out there to catch. There has to be. Women aren't perfect.
What a wonderful job NBC is doing. I was also molested as a child, and wish my sexual predator would have been put on blast. I appreciate the fact that these guys faces aren't faded out, the public needs to see the faces of these sick sick bastards.
I Love this show, even though it is disturbing how many men are doing this. Any of the guys saying this is invasion of privacy or Chris is out for ratings may need to get there computers checked. It's funny that both who said this were men??? Keep up the good work Chris, you are creating A LOT of awareness!!!!
I think this is great! I am a Victim Advocate for children and teens who have been victims of Sexual Assault - so I do see the children who have been victims of this horrible offenders! I think that it is VERY important for America to know what is out there! I wish that everyone could see what happens after the cameras leave - it is not all as America believes! It is great for people to see that offenders (and victims)come from all races, sexes and financial status. This type of crime affects ALL! Thank you again for helping bring awareness into everyone's homes!!
This is great that efforts are being made to catch these predators. However, what about the real minors out there who are carrying on these cyber chats? Can't they be "outed" as well? I realize that due to their ages, they can't be put on television, but what about their parents? Don't they need to be made aware of what their children are participating in? If you are truly interested in protecting children then something should be done about the "other side of the coin" as well.
How can anyone say that these people should have rights. They let those rights go when they decided to show up and molest a child. Don't rehabilitate, castrate.
It is great what you doing, what you should try also is to have decoy "predator"...kids under age shouldn't have been able to have sex conversation over the internet, but that where parents and school should step in....just a thought...
What a bunch of Freeeeeaks! Who ever says this is entrapment, These dudes no the rules, what if it was your child you would want them on your side!! The cops get a little ruff though..Cops they outta do a series on why people or what kind of people become cops? YOU NOTICE THE LAST GUY WITH ALL THE GUNS IS A COP! he will probable get treatment though, they dont ever hold the police acountable
Kudos to Chris Hansen,Dateline NBC, and all of the brave men and women of the police departments.Because of people like you our children can feel safer.
Chris Hansen and Dateline is the BEST. I have a 16 yr old daughter .... she and I watch your show together ... THANK YOU from a Dad who loves his daughter so much ... that we can't ignore the real world of the stuff that happens in the internet world .... WE both can't believe with all the publicity this issue has received that these predators keep showing up .... Thank You Thank You Thank You .... Keep up the good work. Your calling has been and continues to be of service to the World.
This is trash television, plain and simple. You've run this ino the ground already. Can NBC News please return to hard journalism?
This show is necessary until these pigs stop. You will always see these guys show up at these houses. It's sad. Keep up the great work Chris and Dateline!
Chris Hanson, you always do a great job with this segment. But I do have a question, why are all these suspects pleading not guilty? They all have nude pictures and chat logs do they think the courts will rule in their favor?
How can anyone complain that this is entrapment?!!! These perverts bring the problems on themselves! If they weren't out preying on our children, there would be no need for any of this. Thank goodness that Perverted Justice is out there helping protect our kids!!!!!
It is about time. This is nothing new,I am close to 70 female. In the 1950 we were just attacked. If parents knew it was hushed up.As far as the police were concerned, it was a joke.A girl had to prove it.How could a girl do that ?Thank you for finally educating the American public about something that is as old as history itself. It took thousands of years to stop them, so thank you.
This show is awesome! Congrats to Chris! I love how Chris walks in on the two in the house!
I think you guys are going a great job! Keep up the good work! I'm 17 and I watch it with my mom every week!
Steve in Watertown, NY: I don't think Dr. Phil would have enough time on his show between the cheating spouses and the unruly teens to do the followup on these guys' stories. Not to mention, I think it's Dateline NBC's responsibility to do a thorough followup. Take care Steve!
To Catch a Predator is by far the best show on TV. I wish there was a 24 hour Predator network. What is incredible to me is just how pathologically these guys lie. I can hardly believe that after the 1st show that ppl are still trying to have sex with minors. What is wrong with us a society that we are producing guys like this all the time?
Hi Chris. The show is fantastic. It may not prevent this type of activity but any deterance may save the innocence and possibly the life of many minors. I sincerely hope that someone would run this type of program in Canada. Best wishes for many more years of catching predators. Cheers!
I am a police officer and I am so glad that your show caught the rogue police officer. His actions have betrayed the trust of those who have given him a badge and a gun. And put those most vunerable at risk (our young ). Who knows what might have happened if it wasn't a decoy. Or in a on duty situation he might have used his position as a police officer to gain the trust of an innocent child . Entrapment hardly...I call it catching " "ONE "of those who has slipped through the cracks of the system . Way to go!!!!
GREAT JOB CHRIS & CREW! IT IS SCARY THAT THESE SO CALLED “PEOPLE” ARE OUT THERE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHO IS TRYING TO ABUSE YOUR CHILDREN.
First of all, I think what you're doing is very commendable. However, I think you should try this in reverse. You're forgetting about the crappy parents of the REAL 13 year old girls that are out there looking for these hook-ups with older guys. These parents are just as guilty! They're responsible for their under age children, but are failing miserably! Why don't you target them to0? If parents had control of their children, they wouldn't be on the internet looking for these older men! What you're doing is GREAT, but it only looks at half the problem.
I really enjoy watching dateline and Chris' "To Catch a Predator." All you people out there who think these "poor" men are being exploited, just chew on this: one of the men Chris caught at the very beginning was a teacher at my son's school...if you had a daughter at the same school, would you think their rights were infringed? You go, Chris....
I like the idea of a reverse sting. The parent of a child caught chatting in a "sexual manner" with an adult decoy, is charged with child neglect (or something of that sort). A parent who doesn't realize the internet is a dangerous place for their children at this point, is either living under a rock or just doesn't care
I think people who cry entrapment are whiners. No one is forcing those perverts to drive hundreds of miles or several hours to have sex with someone they think is a 13 y.o. Nothing worse in the world!!!! Come to central Illinois sometime. I think the punishment is not enough from what I have seen.
THIS GUY (SPIKES) IS A NUT TOO.
It is sad that there are young teens out there conversing in this way with strangers, but if one of their lives are saved through the efforts of Chris and this program, I think the discomfort experienced by these predators being caught is worth it.
I believe the show is wonderful. It has showed my 11 year old daughter all the faces of predators. She is not actively involved in online chat but her time is coming. I want her to be aware of the dangers out there. I don't agree about hearing from the families. I feel sad for the wives and children of the predators. I do want the show continue, maybe some preadators will decide not to continue with an action.
With the Jessica Lunsford murder trial underway this really hits home. Maybe this prevented another one. Thanks Chris
It's not taking all my posts, I'll just summarize that this is scum TV. I agree with all the dissenters.
Every once in a while, you guys feature someone I genuinely feel sorry for. This time it was that first young man (Pakinstani? Indian? psychology student). He reminds me of how dumb we all were as students. He was so sorry. There's such a difference between him and the Mohammad Abdullah, for instance. I hope they are treated differently.
Kudos to Chris Hansen and to Dateline!... This is important work and I hope you are alerting parents here as well as cleaning these perverts off the streets... Keep up the good work!...
Great job Chris! What amazes me is that this sickos know about the show and still take the chance of getting caught. I love this show more than anything. It's incredible that these predators are lining up waiting to get arrested. When will this end?!
