8:03 p.m.
Usually when two potential predators arrive at close to the same time, I try to move quickly through the first interview so that we are ready for the second. But here in Flagler Beach, you’re about to see something I’ve not done before. Two men show up so close to each other I have no choice but to conduct the interviews at the same time. Watch as I introduce the two men to each other and see if you can figure out which one has seen our previous Dateline investigations.

8:15 p.m.
This being our 10th investigation, we figure that some of the men, perhaps even the majority of them here have seen our previous shows and maybe anxious about actually walking into a house. So we are prepared when the men set up a second meeting location across the street at the beach. The police are under the boardwalk and hidden cameras are set up in and around a beached sailboat. In a moment you’ll see how it all works out.

8:34 p.m.
Sometimes Perverted-Justice decoys talk online with potential predators for weeks about a sexual liaison -- and still the man never shows up. You’re about to meet a guy who we thought was going to do just that: 41-year-old Todd Spikes engaged in an explicit online chat with a decoy posing as a 13-year-old girl. His intent seems pretty clear as much of his chat is unfit to print or put on TV. It’s Sunday night and we worked very late the night before.  The whole team is beat. I ask Frag of Perverted Justice if he thinks Spikes is going to show up. Frag says Spikes hasn’t communicated with the decoy for hours. We decide he’s probably a no-show and break down for the night. Man, were we wrong.

8:51 p.m.
Minutes after we arrive at the hotel, the decoy gets a call. It’s Spikes and he’s in Flagler beach after what we figure is more than a 5-hour drive from his home in northern Florida. It turns our Spikes is a cop from a small town in southern Alabama. In spite of having three cell phones in his car, he uses a pay phone to call. There’s no way to get everybody in position back in the house and it turns out that may have been a good thing. The police pull him over. Wait until you see what he had stashed in his car: 800 rounds of ammo, an assault rifle, three bullet proof vests and camera equipment. He also had a pistol in his pocket. In a moment you’ll see what he has to say for himself.

8:55 p.m.
You've heard a lot from these men in their own words--- next week, I'll let you know what I was thinking while all this was happening in my own words.  We’ll answer some of your e-mails and blog posts, and we'll tell you who's been convicted and how long they'll be behind bars.

I think this is a GREAT thing that Dateline does. I have even made both of my daughters watch this show, to show them what is out on the internet, and becuase of this, they have been much more careful. Now we all watch it together. I hope Chris keeps up the great work he does, and keeps these predators off the streets, and keeps the kids safe.
I would like to see what happens after. What happens after the trial, how the families are affected. Is this possible in future episodes?
Enough already. We've seen the scene over and over again. Isn't there anything else Dateline can cover?
It's a shame those two can only POSSIBLY deported after serving a prison term (if convicted). They definitely SHOULD BE deported after serving their time (if convicted).
Im sorry, but I think that this program is an insane invasion of privacy. Why does a journalist think that it is okay to coerce these people. How would he like it if someone did this to him?
I love this show and the service you're providing. Keep up the great work.
To prove this isnt imprisonment...why dont you guys find a real 13 year old girl who talks like that...(good luck) and then go to her house and smack her?
I love what Dateline is doing. The only thing missing is the "slap factor". I wish you would have a realitive of the criminal come out with Chris an slap the crap out of the person. That would be the icing on the cake.
Keep going Chris!! Bravo! As long as you keep trapping these predators - we'll keep supporting the sponsors of NBC.
Surely there's something else you can do with your journalist mind than turn pedophilia into entertainment.
i think you are doing the public a service
Chris..... we love your show & watch it all of the time!! what happens to these guys?? do they ever go to jail?? will you ever do a follow-up to let us know if these guys plea-bargain to misdemeanors or really are sentenced to maybe 15 yrs????
I have watched this show from the beginning, I am watching right now. I have been in the law for the last 20 yrs. in Canada and it is no different up here these people are everywhere
I wonder if Mr. Hansen is every worried about his own safety? I'am worried that one of these guy's will go ballistic and try to hurt Mr. Hansen or his crew. I hope that this never happens, but I do think that this could happen when one of these morons feel that there backs are against the wall!
Chris you are doing a fantastic job with "To Catch A Predator". You need to continue these stories. The country needs to know about this. Thanks Dateline and Chris Hansen.
You exploit these men as much as they plan on exploiting the young girls. Absolutely no parents has learned anything thing for your continued programs. Parents know that the internet is a dangerous place for their children. They need to be monitoring their activity to prevent the situations you so bravely (sarcasm) display to American viewers on a weekly basis. You have found your cash cow, and who cares that it displays people who've made in a terrible decision. I would be interested to see if you'd continue this work, if it weren't broadcast on National Television. I would guess not.
Thank you for the in-depth continuing series, 'To catch a predator' as I am an adult man suffering from the effects of being molested as a young boy. Get 'em....Hansen
This is nuts!!! They need to publicly castrize these fools...I can not beleive what I see.....No wonder the one DA dude went out the way he did?....
how they can have kids and still do this is unbelievable to me
I have a feeling the naysayers are potential predators and afraid Chris is going to greet them when they show up for sex. If you don't like the show you have a remote control...use it.
What Dateline does needs to be done and what rights should any pervert with a computer have.
hey well I would like to kno how can i get involved and help catch some of these criminal that is out there endanger our streets. I would really like to help
I love this show and keep up the good work. I too wonder if Chris has had some moments of jitters. SOme of these people seem like they could go off the deep end. Keep catching these sick people DATELINE.
they should do a show about the mens families. How does all this effect them, I don't even need to see there faces. I'm curious about there lives now.
This show is interesting, but i have noticed that the police really get into it. i mean yeah these guys might run but when they are already on the ground and the cops act all aggressive its kinda over the top but hey i guess the cops have there 15 mins of fame lol, and why are there just male predators you know there are female ones to, would they be treated the same?
GREAT JOB CHRIS!!! me and my fiancee absolutely love to catch a predator...i think its so great what you guys are doing...i hope you continue to keep locking these fools up, and showing the world that the internet can no longer be a playground for these disgusting men praying on innocent children.
Has a women ever been caught?
What you are doing is wonderful. I work for an Adult Probation Department in Southeast Texas. Our Department has created a Sex Offender Location Unit along with our District Attorney's Office work together to try and make sure that the sex offender's in our counties are compliance with registration. Recently we had a registered sex offender with a my space page which is a violation of his court ordered probation judgment. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was arrest but, the District Judge released him. I sure wish you could come to our area.. Keep up the good work.
I agree with Steve Watertown. I would like to what has happened with these people after they have been arrested. How many have been convicted? How many were let go? What were the charges they were EVENTUALLY convicted of? How long were the sentences for those that were actually convicted?
These people who say you're doing an injustice to the criminals are completely missing the point. What about minor girls who are being solicited and unfortunately it's not an adult at the other end of the line? It's much easier obviously to act like we're putting them in a situation that is unlikely to occur if it wasn't a set up. That's why teen pregnancy is up. It's also why this show continues to go strong and keeps catching pervert after pervert. Keep it up Chris!! If only there were other show like you!
I agree with "anonymous" that this program is an invasion of privacy. It's shock, reality TV that ruins the lives of poor, lonely men who have sexual dysfunctions and need help.
Keep up the good work. I wish your crew could catch everyone of these people that is out there. As far as the earlier post that said this is an invasion of privacy, I bet your opinion would change if it was your child that was raped or even worse.
Chris I am watching as well I watch this every week I have a 10 yr. old step daughter who is just getting to the age of playing on the net and this really scares me for her I wish they would come to Long Island I know there are 35 sex offenders in one neighborhood I would love to see if they are on line
I don't think what your doing is "bad" but I wonder if it isn't intrapment? what are 13yr old girls doing on the internet talking like that any way? Sex doesn't happen so I don't understand how they get sentenced like they did? (15yrs in prison) Also why are you only triggering men, women are doing this as well...
I have watched your show and think it is great you catching these predators but wonder why four or five big policemen didnt jump on the congress man that was e-mailing young pages in congress seems like the same thing to me.
Is it just me? I commend NBC for their work on the Predator series, but these individuals are the scum of the earth, and they visit me in my living room far too often. The police and the people involved should continue this very important work for the safety of our children, but am I the only one who is sick of seeing these disgusting men and their sorry lives? Continue the work, but I do not care to see these creeps on another Dateline. We get it! Maybe Dateline should research other avenues for future broadcasts. Enough already!
I think that what "Dateline " is doing good, but I also think that intraptment is just as illegal. Chris Hasment should be put in jail. Fraud and intraptment. He is not in law inforcement. The decoys are also over age , so no law was broken. I think that "dogs" should be takin in , you are wrong about the way you do it.
Like others, I watch the show with my three teens to show them the sickness of the world. keep up the crusade!
i like everyone else say great job keep up the good work tell us what happens to these guys?
Hi Chris, I'd like to know why you say to the predators before they walk outside the house, hi I'm Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC and we're doing a story about adults who want to meet underage teens online? Why don't you call them what they really are pedophiles? The way you say makes it seem like what their doing isn't that bad or as serious as it is. It is truly frightening to see how many predators there are out there. I also was wondering if you've ever had a women show up? I haven't seen any, but I could have missed a show. Thanks for what your doing and thanks for your time.
Chris I love what your doing, keep up the good work.At least some of these people wont be messing with our children.
I have seen quite a few of the shows, and one thing that I have not seen yet, is a women being caught up in the investigation. Does perverted justice not target them, or has it just not happened yet. There is no doubt that there are women predators in the world and the media has loved following stories involving them. I guess my big question is, are they not targeted or has it just not happened yet.
I think that they should push for tougher penalties for these people. It's apparent that we have a serious problem when that many men are showing up for sex with children. I appreciate what dateline does to help show who these people are, now it's up to the courts to make sure that they don't ever get a chance to act on there sick urges.
these guys are really sick especially that nasty old man
Just once I'd like to see one of these sickos actually fess up and admit right away to what he's doing. How stupid do they think the rest of us are ("I din't know she was 13; I only came here to talk"? Has anyone ever been bold enough to be say "Yeah, I'm here to have sex with a young kid, what of it?!" p.s....Chris Hansen, you're wonderful!!!
Thanks Lori from Houston TX. Unfortunatley if Dateline is not going to do that type of show it maybe a topic for Dr. Phil. I really think it would be interesting to see what happens to these guys and how it affects their families. I dont mean to put them on display but how has it affected their lives.
OK, so I've watched nearly every "To Catch A Predator" episode. Although I agree that these sick individuals need to be caught and punished for their alleged crimes, I think the manner in which it is done is appauling. In every case I have seen, the apprehention of the perpetrator disgusts me. In most cases when Chris walks out from behind the wall, the people know they've been busted, and are about to be arrested. Is it really necessary for the law enforcement officials to take these people and push them down to the ground? As far as I'm concerned this is police brutality caught on tape. I've seen individuals walk out the door with their arms raised in a surrendering position, and still law enforcement pushes them to the ground, even when there's 4 or 5 officers against 1 suspect he gets pushed to the ground. Is this just a way for them to look big and bad? Personally, if I was ever in that situation, I would file a class action suite against Dateline and all law enforcement offices involved in the aprehention of these suspects.
I THINK THIS IS AN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL AND MUCH NEEDED SERIES WHICH YOU HAVE SHARED WITH THE PUBLIC. THE ONLY THING I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS WHY DO ALL THE CAMERAMEN CONVERGE ALL AT ONCE WHEN CONVERSATION IS NEARING THE END? PLEASE KEEP BRINGING US MORE INFORMATION ON OTHER IMPORTANT TOPICS.
ENTRAPMENT!
Chris's work is terrific, no doubt about it. But why does it have to be televised? Set up the sting, nab these guys, rehabilitate them, and put them on the right track. Does humiliating these people on National TV serve any purpose besides entertainment, lining NBC's pockets, and making Chris Hansen's name recognizable--I don't think so.
