7:54 p.m.

We've just come off of an eye-opening investigation in Petaluma, Calif. and are now in Long Beach, Ca. Once again we tried to set up the house so that my confrontations with the potential predators would be outside on the back patio. The weather cooperated. The sound of jets taking off and landing at two nearby airports did not.

Plan B, as you're about to see, is to set up a bar and stool inside the house. As a location, Long Beach was perfect: easy to get to and surrounded by several major metropolitan areas, but inside the house we're a bit cramped, so much so that a few guys actually spot some of our crew and try to make a run for it. One guy though, who stays and talks to me for several minutes tries to defend one of the most frightening chats I have read during the first eight "To Catch A Predator" investigations. His real name is Michael Warrecker, but his screen name is "can_I_rape_you_anally." Brace yourself for what you're about to hear, it's rough stuff, but important we think in order to understand the potential threat this man represents had there really been a 13-year-old girl home alone. What amazes me is that as I am talking to him is how casually he reacts to the things he said online, almost as if everyone on the Internet talks this way.

8:10 p.m.
It seems to me that more and more of the guys who come into our hidden camera houses quickly realize what they've walked into, sometimes because they've actually seen some of our previous investigations. Take for example one of the next men you're going to meet. He's a 36-year old musician whose screen name is "sugardavis." He chats online with a decoy who says she's a 13-year-old girl about smoking pot and rubbing oil all over each other's bodies. He shows up without the pot, but has everything else needed for the planned sex party.

It turns out "sugardavis" says he's in counseling because he's met others online for sex. He chats with our decoy, a young looking actress for a few minutes before I also walk into the room. I'm not sure you'll be able to pick up on this watching on television, but it was clear to me that he recognized me immediately. It was almost as if he's seen a ghost. He says one word: "nooooo" and bolts. He won't get far.

8:21 p.m.

As many times as I have seen it happen, I still don't understand how a grown man with young teenaged kids can justify a sexually explicit online chat with another young teenager and then show up presumably for sex. Most of them seem to know intellectually that it's wrong and against the law, but somehow they must compartmentalize their lives in away that justifies their behavior.

Take for instance 44-year-old Robert Salinas who chats with and then visits a girl who he thinks is 13. In his chat he says "I could get in trouble for  making love to a minor." Salinas tells me he has just finished making a service call for the copy machine repair company where he works. Online, he says he has to pick up one of his own kids at karate practice but finds time to pick up sandwiches for our decoy.

Watch as he, like so many other guys, walks in like he's right at home. Salinas admits that what he's doing is wrong and suggests to me that getting caught is a "wake-up call." That's probably true -- but not as much of a wake up call as he's about to get from the Long Beach Police.

8:45 p.m.
Sometimes in our investigation we have so many men show up that we don't have time to put each and every one in our programs. That's what happened early last year during our investigation in Riverside County, Ca.

There,  more than 50 men showed up and were arrested. One of the men in Riverside who didn't make it into the show is a man named Michael Siebert. He was one of the guys you sort of feel sorry for because they seem a bit slow, but a clear case of why a guy like him could still be dangerous.

Fast-forward 8 months from our Riverside investigation and here we are in Long Beach. Guess who's chatting about sex online with a decoy posing as a 13-year old?

Unbelievably he tells our decoy he can't come over Friday because he has a court date. Later, we'll learn that it's a court date stemming from his arrest in Riverside.

On Saturday night, however, he's in our living room looking for the girl with whom he thought he was chatting.

I say to him: "you know we've had this talk before." He curses, apologizes and promises he'll never do it again. In a moment, you'll hear about a third criminal case in which Siebert was charged. This one resulted in a year in prison.

8:55 p.m.
Next week you'll met a guy who is no stranger to Perverted Justice decoys -- and as you'll see, he'll stretch the resources of Dateline and the Long Beach Police.

Hope you'll join us again on-air and online next week. And don't hesitate to send us your feedback, below.

Editor's note: Here's some Web-exclusive video -- a video blog of Chris and Lynn Keller, one of the producers behind the series. They talk about the feedback they've received re the show... and how they first reacted when a man stripped naked in one of the reports.

Also, many of the comments below asked about the absence of female predators in these reports. We've addressed this question in a previous blog entry. Check it out.

Is it ever possible that the predator could be a woman? I always see Dateline focusing on men as being the predator.
I can't believe he talked so openly to you. It's very scarey that he didn't hesitate...he's definitely a threat to young women
Hi Chris, big supporters of the show at ONTD. KEEP CATCHIN' THOSE PEDOS!!
ya i know how sombody can just act soooo casually about saying the stuff he said. "ya i know sr."pause he couldnt come up with anything too defendhimself?hmm...
These guys are horrible. Especially the first one....he has nerve to use that screeen name - then to think it is "ok" for him to do it so it hurts this young girl.
Chris: I think this is a great thing you are doing. I can't believe there are still people out there doing this, even after your previous episodes. Thank you for making our children a lot safer from predators.
I am so thankful that Dateline is helping to take these monsters off our streets! They should be locked up for all of eternity!
thank u, as a former sexualy abuse child, i thank u for ur work. it somehow brings closure to me.
I thought you would like to know that it was just reported here in Naugatuck, Connecticut that police arrested a 25 year old man for attempting to meet up with a 14 year old girl. It now has reached close to home here. Your program seems to be working with the law enforcment agencies. I look forward to your reporting and learning how to keep this from happening to children in our family and community. Keep up this great work!
Keep up the great work! No longer can America turn a bnlind eye to this growing problem.
goes to show they are as stupid as they are sick-o's. you guys are doing an awesome job, these perverts need to be taken off the street, even if for a little while.
Yes, Chris, I was also appalled at the casual attitude with which he used these terms. I think they (the people who talk this way on-line) must be desensitized to what they're saying. I'm so glad you asked if that was any way a 29 year old man should be acting. Thank you for standing up for principled behavior. Lisa
I am shocked to see that California's age for legal sex is 14. That is wrong. What are the lawmakers thinking??
These guys are absolute creeps. All of you involved in these operations should be so proud of yourselves. As a criminal justice major in college it encourages me to take on a more involved role in curtailing such behavior. Thank you NBC! How can I help or get involved without becoming a police officer?
HI-Hey I am so glad you all have been finally doing the cop catch after the sting. I am with Mothers Outraged at Molesters organizations based in Independence, MO.and remember you all used to not fillow up wiht them. Your show calle don us a long time ago and wanted our opinion on this. I told them I would like to see you all do the cop catch after. Since pervs just change their screen name and info and go back online. Keep up the good work and if you all ever need us for anythign please contatc tus at the name above.
Hey Chris! Love the show! Keep up the grrrreat work!
Thank your Mr. Hansen and NBC. I hope Dateline will continue to run these programs. I have a 13 year old daughter that watches each episode with me and I believe it has kept her safe and responsible online.
WE LOVE U CHRIS!!
these men are sick i have a 14 year old and a 12 yr old i dont let them use the computer without my permission and supervision.
I hope they keep this up FOREVER!!!! This ought to be going on in almost every city nationwide. All of them are very sick people and need to be removed from the public!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
chris-rock on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Hi there, I just wanted you to know that my 12 year old daughter and I have been watching your series since you started it. I look at your series as a learning tool for parents out there. It may be graphic, but it shows how eluded the internet can be. Thanks for doing such a good job. And tell those predators to beware!
I have noticed a lot of your broadcasts are from the West Coast. Can you please set something up on the East Coast, possibly New Jersey. Thank you
I hope parents are watching this show tonight, if they haven't seen the previous episodes. The frequency with which one gets propositioned in chatrooms is unbelievable-- these free, unregulated, unsupervised rooms are far more akin to a dark alley in Whitechapel circa 1890. The content of these Datelines is really too much for tweens (I'm 30 and I frequently cringe). I wish, however, that young people who feel empowered by the seeming "anonymity" of the internet could watch exactly the type of "handsome stranger" is sitting in front of the other computer. Mr. Hansen and Perverted Justice, keep up the good work!
Have watched your "predator" shows and continue to feel sick at the number of sick people out there. As the mother of a beautiful young girl, it is indescribaly frightening to think what filth lurks out there to potentially hurt her. I pray it never happens....
Go Chris! I love your work, and I love how you expose these people for how truly awful their behavior is.
Yes, there are women predators but just not as many. I was a social worker for 22 years doing abuse invesitgations early in my social worker career.
I think that is a great storyline but unfortuneately their are really teenage kids girls and boys that talk this way on line and in person a lot different from my own teenage years the 70's. It is all way too much info for children too know at thier age. JMW in NC
As a former probation officer, I worked with a sex offender caseload in Dallas County Texas and, I can say that I never had a probationer that didnt re-offend. These men and women that violate children need to be incarcerated for a very long time. I personally do not believe that they can be rehabilitated. What you are doing is very important, but realize for every one predator that you have caught there are literally thousands more out there violating our children. I do wish you would do a series in my area though. I live just outside of Philadelphia, PA, in Montgomery County and I know that there are serious problems here too.
laws aren't tough enough for these creeps to quit. Until they send a real message and get tough laws in place this is not going to stop
I know these guys need help, but THERE IS NO MINOR THERE TO HAVE SEX WITH. The fact is that the 'crime' couldnt have been committed. WOW, these men are going to prison for what they THINK. Welcome to America. By the way, when anyone wants to cite statutes, as Im sure they will, please provide the REGULATION that gives the statute validity.
I love what you are doing. Not only are you putting away these terrible people, but you're bringing awareness of this horrible subject to all who watch your show. Hopefully this will deter some would be predators, and educate parents and children about what can happen on the net. Bless you!!!
Chris, Would you do a report on why the authorities can't track child predators when they move from state to state? I believe the 41 yr old who held the 11 yr old boy captive in St. Louis for over four years and then tried to kidnap another one, was convicted of child abuse in another state. It seems that with the technology we have and the importance of keeping watch over these people that it could be done. Thanks again for your good work, Lisa
Thank you for your reports. It's really amazing to see that these people willing admit that what they are doing is wrong. Speak for the children!!!!
unbelievable, God bless you all!!!
syracuse new york has its share of predators, i wish we could catch them like you guys do, you guys rule, keep up the good work.
after all these shows about online sex predators i cant believe any man would be foolish enough to show up at these houses....i think these men should be thrown under the jail for being so sick and perverted...most of them has seen the show and continue to do this, it's unbelievable.
Thank you Chris and Dateline. Getting these dirtballs off the streets and out of the lives of our children is awesome. Keep up the good work!!!
How to ruin a predater's day-"I am Chris Hanson with dateline NBC"
Chris, I think this a great thing. Central Ohio has a great team of Online Predator Police. Westerville Police Dept. seem to be overwelmed with arrests of Online predators. I am a Probation Officer in Circleville, Ohio and had a few of these offenders on Probation. One such offender from Pennsylvania was just sentenced in Federal Court in Penn.. I hope more police departments start to develope programs such is this.
I am SOOO glad Dateline has this show!!! Chris Hansen is the BEST! This show is awesome. You'd think these pigs would know better by now. They deserve to be shown on tv and deserve to go to jail!!!! GOOOOOO NBC for doing a great service to the public! I post EVERY predator in my area and tell ALL my neighbors! I am the neighborhood watch dog!!!
Do not stop doing this untill the perv,s stop showing up . Thanks for doing this kind of show.
I have to respectfully disagree with dc, indiana. They weren't arrested for their thoughts. Sitting in a room on your own thinking about doing these things with someone you believe is underage is a very different thing than driving to a house with the intent of doing those things with someone you believe is underage.
Great Job Chris- Keep up the great work. There seems to be an endless supply of perverts out there ready and waiting to prey on our children.
Chris thank you for what you do! I was a child who got raped because there was no one to stop who raped me. I will not go into any detail but thank you for stopping these men or at least getting them in trouble with the law and putting there faces on the tv.
i made the decision to stay home and help raise my grandchildren. i dont trust anyone to take care of them. the world is a scarry place for children these days.
Chris Hansen is a hero. Thank you and please keep up the good work!
I have seen a few episodes of To Catch a Predator and I am always surprised of the number of men that are caught. Why have you not focused on female predators are they nonexistent? It would be interesting to see how they react and why they do it. Also, why has Dateline not done an episode focusing on Foley and his actions.
Yea... that decoy couldn't have been more than 5 feet away from the guy... way too close. What if one of them, i don't know, lashes out or something. Or tries do do something right then and there. Understandable, you have cameras on them and are just in the next room but still... seems kind of risky.
Great thing Dateline is doing, good work! These people have sick minds. What is scariest is the fact that there are so many that actually come to meet a child for sex.
